Your channel is such an amazing and fun adventure. I really want to try and electroplate some of my old gi joe toy vehicles as i think its an alternative to vac metalizing since some of the chroming has flaked off. My only hold up is the copper conductive paint. Im not seeing many videos on how its made but am seeing lots of graphite paints. So may try that alternative. Thanks for keeping us informed on all the processes.
But be careful in choosing the plating. You dont want to accidentally make a battery that destroys your beloved mini. Standard Reduction Potentials give a hint to which metals can be used to electroplate metal minis.
@robertroughley1923 You know, even according to their business prospectus, they make most of their money off the models. I've been thinking, for a while, that they should set up some sort of community game development system. The players can collectively come up with rules we like, and they could streamline their company.
@4L3X4ND3R19K Well apparently there are already people doing this, though it isn't company-specific. Also, why do you think the US would even bother to regulate something like that?
those look SOO good. I really wish you had painted them up to give the fully complete effect. If you need someone to paint them let me know, I officially volunteer. 😉
This video was absolutely amazing and super informative without being overwhelming with to mych info! I love the prosess and im thinking of doing it myself!
Neat!! I don't care what anyone says. I miss the old metal models. When you pick one of my troops up, I want it to have weight. I want it to tell you to put it back down on their own.
This has helped loads thanks. Look forward to how you made your rotary jig as well. I’m planning on doing this method for my dnd games to make copper/silver/gold coins. Already done some 3d print testing with them. It’s just coating and electroplating to do

@@hen3drik I’d love to try something like this, but I know just enough about it to know that don’t know nearly enough to do it safely. Maybe someday in the future if I get some training/education in the field.
You make it seem so accessible and straight forward. One day I hope that Ive got somewhere to try this. I really love the result. Makes me want to see something like a rhino plated and what a fully painted result. But these would make really great trophies for something too. I hope they find their way to Henry Cavill!
Hello! First of all, congratulations on your videos, I love them!! I wanted to know if you could make a video about recommended kits or tools for doing electrolysis. Something like beginner, intermediate, and expert levels. Thank you for everything! Keep it up!
It would be cool to send some of these to mini-painters on youtube and see how they would approach painting these in order to utilize the metal coating.
It's great for the armor parts that are supposed to be gold BUT you also made every other nook and granny gold. They are so shiny you can't really tell by the video without applying a light coat of dark wash to see if it has deformed. It's a great decorative item for Cavill, or a statue prop in a game, but is it viable for use as a base for a whole army I'd have to see how all that paint works under it.
Fantastic. I am a bit curious how well they would take a wash, wherher something like a contrast paint or a good oil wash like one of the Villainy Inks It could be GREAT to see some Nickel Necrons, and the only thing I can imagine using this on upcoming project wise is to do a Space Marine 2 Killteam and have all the gold trim extremely blinged out
Ive never painted electroplate but using wash on metals gets streaky. Id probably use an oil wash and apply it very deliberately where I want it and not do the typical cover the model in 💩 then wipe it off.
G'day mate. This isn't something I can set up just to electroplated the occasional miniature. But I love the concept and outcome! If you do another batch, I'd happily pay to have a miniature electroplated at the same time. It would just be awesome to have my centre peice stand and be safe in real metal.
Yeah seconding this, it's something I'd love for one or two minis (having already gone into using metal leaf) but the setup is too much for my own workspace. Very cool!
I love this! That setup is great and the airbrushed metallic paint is something doable for me. The idea of having all miniatures painted is amazing. Shiny metallic finishes take it to another level. The war game table would look like a treasure trove! - Now, I want gold plated figures of all the roles Henry Cavill has played. 🥹
Hi, congratulations, your videos are truly amazing!! I’ve been thinking about this for a while now: I’d like to coat my resin 3D printed action figures with copper and then nickel to make them more resistant to breakage and time. Do you think this process could make my prints nearly indestructible, or would the metal layer be too thin? I’d really appreciate any advice you might have! And if you ever create a course on how to plate objects properly, I’d be your first student!
Hi, thank you. I create a 200microns thick layer of copper first, so these become very rigid and stiff. Very thin parts may actually break when force is applied but it’s very unlikely (some fell down the shelf on concrete, no problem at all)
Hello! I know that you can use masking before Step 2 - Applying Conductive Paint, and thus leave plastic exposed. Could you apply masking in between steps 5 and 6, so that the nickel was exposed in some areas after applying the gold? 🤔 Also, are you able to use different karats of gold to get different shades of gold through this process?
I always love your videos! I was able to get some form of a copper paint out here in America and am still kind of testing it out, trying to work out all of the kinks
These are genuinely really good looking models, I’d love to have a try at painting them myself, but alas I don’t have nearly enough space nor the equipment to do this Good video though
I really like this idea, my and my friend were just talking about another persons video where they used gold leaf on a mini. However i like this idea far more ^.^
These look so amazing. I am surprised ppl aren't freaking out that you haven't drilled the barrels lol maybe they are. They seem like they need tiny accent jewels mounted on the eyes and some other areas next almost. I wouldn't even paint them.
These turned out beautiful would you say they are also far more sturdier on the tabletop to play with? I’m thinking of maybe trying it with some CSM demon engines.
It’s a brightener that‘s already in the commercial acidic electrolyte. You can order replenishments for this, make sure to look for „brightener for acidic copper electrolyte“. I got it from a brand called tifoo. But there are also other distributors.
Put a bit of a wash on the armor and its perfect! Beautiful effect, i wonder what the cost would be to commission golden minis like that? Like if i wanted to buy that cavil box worth of minis?
Awesome job! Quick question, any reason why you copper plated them separately? Wouldn't it save a lot of time? Or would it ruin the eveness of the copper?
It's really freaking cool for a display or something. But just like the really pretty shiny gold spray I used on my custodes, it's really hard to apply any more paint over top. There are ways though
Geil erstmal nen Abo da gelassen. ur die einzelnen komponenten zu kaufen um das Galvanisierung zu beginnen kostet ja auch ne menge, du machst das nicht zufällig für einen Obelus ? :) Aber trotzdem super Video :)
This looks great, but I'm kinda wondering if there's a paint that could cover the details, like I only wanted to electroplate on these specific details instead of entirely.
@hen3drik I'm attempt to apply this on gunpla models, because they're snapfit, so I was wondering if there's a way to separate the snap fit before electroplate the parts
I am genuinely curious how much you would charge me to do a custodes kill team, and then I will paint the remainder (cloak, etc)? Those look great, and I would love a set of them. So, if I build them, and mail them, with a return label, all you do in prime and plate (gold baby!) haha
Hi! I love your content! I want to anodise a 3d resin print to obtain a metallic color gradient (red/purple/blue) but I have no clue on how to do that. Could please try it yourself and make a video about it?
This is definitely very impressive! I know that you're supposed to paint these in very thin layers so that the paint doesn't cover details. Considering how much weight it gained, I wonder how think the metal layer is ad weather it is obscuring details. doesn't look too bad in the video though
The electroplating actually emphasizes all the details even more. Even tiny impurities from the mold stand out now. Paint very thin layer work very well and stick there, too. 😊
Is it possible to electroplate half of something long and then flip it upside down to get the other half. If it is possible, would the "overlap" be very noticeable from it being done twice?

True gold has taken on a whole new meaning in the miniature painting world
I love how far us nerds can take our hobbies - i also heard that electroplating can help preventing dreaded "lead rot" in older miniatures
