Gods gift to his people is Finbar Fury who is , a totally brilliant musician, storyteller, educators, adviser, historian, wordsmith and a man of the people, how lucky are we to have such brilliant people among us,check this man out, listen and you will greatly enjoy both his music and his stories
Oh Thank you Bluffermuff for this. I saw Finbar Furey play in 1990 Davey Arthur and the Furey Brothers.. Was brought up on the tradition. Just gorgeous. Erin go braugh.
There's a doc. called "The Pipes, The Pipes are Calling" that traces the history of bagpipe-like instruments through history. I found it fascinating and that was where I was first introduced to Finbar. I think I like the Uillean pipes best, they seem the most mournful (or something I can't quite describe).
there is not enough of finbar video clips playing the pipes..i love his style and his feel.he uses such wonderful little touches to the furey brothers own songs, like their version of the green fields of france about 2/3 rds through the song the pipes come in just under the main melody to support the tune almost like a bass guitar.just one of the greats love davy spillane too but a way different style
love his pipe playing, always have..i 100% agree his version of the coolin is outstanding...he never gets much credit for his pipe playing, its a little different i know but he has amazing sense of melody.listen to the greenfields of france about 4min into the song when the pipes come in just under the vocal melody, most people miss it but it changes the whole mood of the song, just class...
finbar was a great piper....lovely regulators, excellent tuning.....an old comhaltas piping adjudicator said that as an underage piper nobody else could touch him, he was that good, winning many underage competitions. here he shows how good he could be.
Don't understand why peeps are saying this is too fast? This is straight from his heart and he has the technique to deliver it.... are you saying Finbar's heart is too fast? The idea that there is some 'proper' tempo is absurd!
@midnightwalker2712 yes i agree i have been looking for it myself for a long time..his version of the coolin is simply stunning and a joy to listen to...would love to find it again:)
I'd forgotten what a master he is at the Uilleann - the soul of Eire. Thoekins men hin history -the Galiciansand Northumbrians share this instrument. Very fine!! :)
In response to the question about the tune titles ... I'm not sure about the first bit, but the jigs seems to be a combination of The Blarney Pilgrim and Jim Ward's. The reels switch back and forth between The Ivy Leaf and The Crooked Road.
OMG I AM FROM PERTH AND I LOOOOVE THE FUREYS AND IVE ALWAYS WISHED THEY WOULD COME TO PERTH!! BUT SEEMS LIKE THEY DID HOW THE FK AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THESE THINGS?
You know that conversation. Who would you have at your ultimate dinnerparty? And people are always going Stephen Fry, Ghandi. Jeebus, David Attenborrough. Or maybe Ricky Gervais, Billy Connolly, maybe that little fella Herr Gruber who used to just say 'my little Tank' in the 80's in Allo Allo.. I'd settle for one night on the lash, no dinner included with this man. A legend. I'll pay. Gladly.
Fimber lived two doors from my best friends ,6 boys and 4 girls ,they all new the fureu's , me ma lived on there road ,i was born the road after ther's ,me da come's from the road after that again, i remember ther da fimber's da he was a tall man' he looked like petter o tool out of the field ' he made fiddle 's , i'm sure he had two real nice boxer puppies white they were ,,i have 5 boxer dog now as a man because i like them puppies as a kid .ballyer .
Beautiful playing indeed. Met Finbar at Redcar years ago; great concert. Asked him why he played so fast. Answer: "Because I can!" There's no answer to that beyond ENJOY!!! As a self-taught piper I DO!! But admit to slight envy.
Larry Privett hahahahah!!! ....i suppose its a good answer....theres a difference between playing fast and being able to play fast!!!finbar is one great piper i must say

I'm of Irish heritage, if there was such a thing as a soul. This sings to mine. I love this!!!!

MrJharpu1 is correct This is music that stirs the soul. This is an ancient spirit inside those who are of Celtic origins.
they are one of Irelands greatest treasures,Finbar Furey and his family !!!
I supported the Furey's when they and I were young men in the 1960s.

The absolute master of the pipes.
Master piper ! he doesn't get enough credit as a piper. His old tape the "prince of pipers" is fantastic
If you think this is too fast your ears are too slow.
Hahahahaha.
Now that is a Barnyism (The late great Barny Mckenna)
@midnightwalker2712 definitely! I'm stoked I got the footage
Wonderful
So many times (especially when heard live) the body is stopped in its tracks and from somewhere comes a tear..
I'd forgotten what a master he is at the Uilleann - the soul of Eire. Thoekins men hin history -the Galiciansand Northumbrians share this instrument. Very fine!! :)
