    • @damianoreilly7598
      @damianoreilly7598 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fearghal, I think it isn't that black and white - I think the Irish have kilts too historically, albeit in their own ways - the large "great" kilts that are up over the shoulder and can be used as cloaks are debated as having been used in Ireland, although the lein-croich certainly were, though the small kilts (waist down only version) were certainly an invention of the Scots revival in the 19th century, and these kilts have been adopted to an extent by Irish as well. Kilts in their current form though, absolutely Scottish, though we have happily been allowed to appropriate them :p (I am Irish living in Scotland so I can stir things up and get away with it hahaha)

    • @Proud2BaPaddy
      @Proud2BaPaddy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damian O'Reilly Yeah I know..But the Irish did abandon the kilt a long time ago whereas the Scottish kept it in vogue..lol..So it's recognised now as a traditional scottish item of clothing..And us Irish are rid of it (thank god)

    The Uilleann pipe : la plus belle, la plus douce et sensuelle sonorité de toutes les cornemuses.
    J'ai entendu dire que pour apprendre cet instrument, d'après la tradition, on joue 7 ans avec l'un des trois bourdons que l'on voit posés sur les genoux de Paddy, puis on en rajoute un second encore pendant 7 ans, et ensuite 7 ans pour le troisième.
    Donc, au bout de 21 ans, tu peux prétendre être un joueur de Uilleann pipe.
    Un autre auxiliaire indissociable de l'âme irlandaise !!!
    En tout cas, c'est l'un des rares instruments à vent qui te permets de boire une Guinness tout en jouant (une paille, mon pote !)...

    • @dukadarodear2176
      @dukadarodear2176 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The culture of the Scotti derives from Ireland - both nations share a lot. The Irish call the "Bag Pipes" 'Na Píobaí Choghaidh' - 'The War Pipes'.
      The other pipes - with the bellows- are "Na Píobaí Uileann" "The Elbow Pipes". The "Harvest Home, Boys of Bluehill, etc are most likely from a N E England tradition but very popular in Ireland as are Scottish reels such as "Miss McCleod of Rassay".

Yes I know Paddy claims to have been influenced by the Blues, but IMO his pipes don't shout it the way Spillane does. I can listen to Paddy for ever, Davy, OTOH, I need to turn off after a couple of tracks. Just my own view.

I saw Davey playing with John Keenan's group, The Pavees at Slattery's on Capel Street in a "club" called the Twa Corbies. Davey was so young and so amazing, eyes always on his teacher, John. Thomas and Johnny Keenan were in the group, as was a bodhran player named Finbar(r) Furey, no relation, I was told. John Keenan, Sr. played the mandolin. Extraordinary music.
