I would agree 90%, you are correct, but Roisin Murphy would like a word with you :-) LES Is still one of the most amazing pieces of art every created, though.
I am ashamed: I had never paid attention on PJ Harvey before "Let England Shake". What incredible breach! But better late than never: this new album makes me catch up the lost time. Bravo! A new fan.
Sylvain Arnoux But you get the wonderful experience of discovering a whole body of work. I spent 1987 realising I’d never really checked out Bob Dylan. Every week I’d get a new album. Same with the Stones. Unfortunately I missed out on the whole rave scene coz of that but hey ho.
A glimmer of hope for music today and her name is PJ Harvey - the x factor gneration could do no better than to pay attention - its not all about looks and cover versions. The overdub of trumpet is essential for the context of the song and the album and is simply genius. I love you Polly.
well.. i never had the opportunity to liste pj harveys songs live in argentinaonly came in 2004 and i wasnt allowed to go..lonstoryshort.. for the videos and else i can tell she is stunning. Congratualations my sweet english women, loveu. Matias arricauPalacio.Moreno, Buenos Aires prov.
My God! I pray to you tonight that you are well and happy and inspired to continue entertaining us/me with your glorious ability to move me/us: you are my puppeteer, I will it! ps., I do believe that you, Polly Jean Harvey, especially with this album, have produced a tragedy like the Attic tragedy of the Classical Greek period. And, this tragedy is what Nietzsche advises we use, given it's a form of art, to measure or value life. We could be adults and live not by obeying the law given and obeyed because of threats to life eternally by a vain transcendent being who they call God but instead, obey that which we value because we choose to: our art, our artifice. In conclusion, i think you really deserve a pay rise, given I bought To Bring You My Love in 1995 and it cost about the same as today's price. (it's packed in a box currently because I'm still unpacking so can't refresh my memory of its exact price). thanks, PJ Harvey, and encore, more please 🙂
Polly, I wanna sit across the table from you and just look at you and listen to your stories and figure you out. I'm in love with this gorgeous woman. wish I could marry her.
The album is just as relevant today as when it first came out, probably more so which is a really bad reflection on us as a society. Unfortunately parties that spread hate and fear like the Tories are still in power.
Why must the hideous monsters at Vevo force me to watch a Matt and Kim ad before seeing a performance from one of the most brilliant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Perhaps they feel we shouldnt get to seesomething amazing without first being force-fed something awful.
I spent the whole time wondering what guitar that was. First thing I did after the song was over was to browse the comments in hope some candid soul would post it. Thanks :)
I know, right? I get that is has symbolic importance, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this song would be even better without the stupid sample overriding the beauty of the music.

as of 2020 this album is becoming more and more prophetic
yes... always hits hard, but especially lately...and today.
And, that my friend is how I became the man in the iron mask🎭
As of December 2018, Let England Shake is still the best album this decade.
As of October 2019 can still confirm.
It's giving Bowies Blackstar a run for it's money.

it was a good album, but hardly best of the decade, not by along shot.
Good album, but far from being best album. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, To Pimp A Butterfly, Blackstar & Blonde are a few I can think about

Me too
This is how you do political music and great songs.
This woman can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes. Sheer brilliance..!!!!
What a talent, what a personality, what an artist. She is a Rock´n Roll queen.
Let England Shake is quite simply another of Polly Jean's masterpieces #GOAT
One of the only artists who sound better live than on record!!!!
2022 and this is still the most exciting thing to have ever happened to music
Havent heard that much music, then, have you?...
Beautiful ethereal guitar from a beautiful ethereal lady. 🌹
Her music is pure genius!
what a ultra-beautiful song.
For me, 'Let England Shake' is, together with the first album of Arcade Fire, the best album of the new millennium.
Instead of Arcade Fire i’ll take In Rainbows.
I was in bridport today, I thought of Polly when I was in Clocktower records, but there weren’t any of her records in the second hand section…
It amazes me even more LIVE!! I love their musicianship
stunningly original and beautiful music
Its originally a Russian ( or maybe Ukrainian) folksong.
What a fkn banger of a tune.
best track on the album for me along with "the words that maketh murder" and a very good performance
Thank God for P J Harvey.
PJ en este álbum en este performance es una extraterrestre, está mas alla de todo. llo dice, lo asume, es una diosa de la música!
Polly, it doesn't get any better than this. Beautiful music.
i really like this song a lot... wish it had gone on another 15 minutes....
Totally agree
I love this song its like nothing ever made

Astonishing
Nice song and a beautiful live recording.

It is now 2024 and nothing has changed.

La retorica, a gola spiegata.
Wow! Thanks!
...And for all these new magnificent songs:
merci beaucoup!
vive la reine!
Chris Corner's older sister 😍 HBD Polly ✌️
awesome
fucking love her
epic.
@DrDougRoss This album needed no "growing"! Recognized the sheer brilliance from note one!
😀 👍👍
As always, Polly breaks out among the best british female performers..!
I don’t think your sentence needs the word female. Nor British for that matter.
What is the main theme of the song?
My God! I pray to you tonight that you are well and happy and inspired to continue entertaining us/me with your glorious ability to move me/us: you are my puppeteer, I will it!

Roger Federer on drums wth! ;-)
the fimale nick cave or igy pop......you are excellent
They are the male PJ Harvey
Is this PJ's "Bjork" moment?
+Cosmo Spacemonkey She's always been a little offbeat, Polly Jean. She is kinda Bjork's slightly less weird soul sister.
+Cosmo Spacemonkey no, she is weirder, darker and less mainstream, she just got more beautiful than usual.
Why would they not put the trumpet on??? have u heard the lyrics???it sets the whole scene! its essential in my view
the trumpet is on it?
its a sample, even in the studio, its done the way you see it here =)
+Exit 1Ø1 I know it is. I was replying to someone who said the trumpet shouldn't b on there as it ruins it which is just crazy talk
of course, i see that now, funny, my brain ignored the word 'not' ! lol i agree, the trumpet is integral.
I think it's a bugle.
@@M-O-Z the bugle does ruin the song
what is the make of that white guitar?
I believe it’s a Gretsch.
@@TheTestingGrounds No, is an Airline Guitar...
oh America .....
... i want that hat

Theotita!
i can't believe that they even have put the sample shit of military trumpet on the live version too (for this beautiful song)
lol. this girl is a goofball.
m.b. U just look around and ask youself - "Who is bestowed yours glorious country?" OooAm.. and OooEn.. now looks like Somali or Siria... IMHO

A very silly song, but entertaining.
How's it a silly song?
