- We had a customer ask us if we could make a bronze Coupe. We decided to make a fender to see if it could be done. We have other exotic manufacturing secrets videos on TH-cam.

@KirkhamMotorsports1 I am a tool and die maker, so I can appreciate the time digitizing the car and making the die. I find the way you did the fender, fascinating....very nice work
@Arnthorg, The stretch press is (in its own way) a power tool. It helps tremendously. I am not sure what other power tools could be used. We are, however, certainly open to any ideas!
I've been binge watching your videos for the last 2 days. Amazing stuff!
Thanks!
@CarsInDimension The roadster is actually made of pure copper. Bronze is about 3 times denser than aluminum.
Too good. I wish to heave so was closer to your workrooms. Congratulations on beautiful work
Thank you!
It's truly incredible work.👍👍
Bronze plates are heavier than aluminum. What is the thickness of the material used?
1.5 mm
@hennys63, It takes about 8 man hours to make the fender and 8 hours to polish it. This doesn't include the time digitizing the car, machining the dies, or making the stretch form.
great stuff
truly an amazing video. How long did it take to make the fender?
Did you use just regular black spray paint before the sanding process?
Hi David Amazing videos my favorite car. I have another favorite I am working on and need some direction to find a part. I am building a 1953 ford panel and installing a flip hood. I am having trouble locating hinges for the front or at least a pattern. I have the ability to make it with some instructions.Would you help me with this.
@hennys63 Thanks for the kind words. :)
David, why did you use this small manual stretch press instead of the big hydraulic one you have?
Because we had to use the torch so much on the bronze to get it to move. It's really hard to move in and out of the large stretch press with a torch.
@@KirkhamMotorsports1 cool! Did you make the clamps? I need to make a few similar shapes and would like to build one of these smaller stretch presses
@@jc8417 We made everything in house (as usual).
These guys are using kukas to incrementally form parts: th-cam.com/video/dCXu8Ju_fdY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6Rx2BKNwcduAxaB6
David, that panel is for a coupe. Is that a bronze Cobra roadster behind you in the video? Also, though I'm sure that a polished bronze car would look cool (and give new meaning to brass era cars) isn't bronze a lot heavier than aluminum? Not that a 427 or a modern performance engine couldn't handle it.
It's funny that you got mentioned on Instapundit today. I posted one of your videos on Cars In Depth a day or two ago.

what is that die made out of? aluminum or steel?
aluminum
wow that car must have cost a fortune haha
@bordercollie1961 Thanks :)
@CarsInDimension Thanks for the link on your site. I'll check you guys out. Glenn at instapundit is a great guy. He inspired me to organize the first Tea Party in Utah. I spend a good chunk of each day calling, emailing, and persuading media and legislators to stop spending all the money.
@billg69gmc
16 hours of programming and 6 hours of machining.
