I don't know Japanese although I've been learning for quite sometime now but listening to this song, and most other Studio Ghibli songs, you don't need to understand the lyrics. You listen to it at any time of the day and this wave of mixed feelings of nostalgia and sense of belonging to a bygone era, of missing someone beloved and feeling peaceful in the heart all comes together and hit you hard enough to make you have chills running all over your body and tears start falling from your eyes. It's truly amazing and magical how Ghibli music manages to deliver such powerful overwhelming feelings to the listeners. Thank you Japan for giving us Studio Ghibli with which you've made my life a more beautiful and happy one.

i listen to this in the morning and at night. it makes me feel such emotions i could never name. like for a moment, i’m transported to a place, to a time, where i actually belong. for just a moment, i feel so at peace that it hurts. i love this song incredibly much
beautifully described this longing, elusive peace only very few songs can grant…it is painful not to know the way to it but clearly feel it in this sound.
It gives me goosebumps every time i listen to this song! This movie is a masterpiece (tbh every movie of Gibli studio are amazing) The morel if this Movie is Those who are born has to die! no one can live forever everyone has to die! If we fear the death we won't be able to enjoy our life! we will always be in fear
Even though I tend to watch the English version for this movie the Japanese version of this song just hits differently 😢I always come back here when I rewatch the movie.

ゲド戦記、駿作品ではないのでジブリの中ではあまり表には出ないけれど、一番人の心の色が現れてる作品だと思う。みんな誰しも一人で生きていかなくてはいけどないけど独りではなくて、生きてる以上誰かとの関わりが必ずあって自分ではそれがわからないかもしれないけど誰かがきっと見ていてくれてるんだよね。話は少し逸れて、毎日乗る電車で頻繁に人身事故が起こる。自分で死を選ぶほど辛い気持ちで生きてる人がいるんだなとなんとも言えない気持ちになる。
会ったこともないけれどやっぱり自分で死を選んでる人を見ると悲しいよ。死ぬななんて無責任なことは言えないけど、自分以外の他人に少し迷惑をかけて生きるくらい図々しくてもいいんじゃないかな。いつか絶対に死ぬんだからその時まで一緒に図太く生きてみようよ。
