      I know right?? It blew my mind to hear Cliff talk about how much he liked Ed King in a separate interview also!

      It's really something, Lightning and Puppets both have that vibe because they were recorded in Denmark with Cliff. Funny story, there's controversy surrounding Thing about tuning of the guitars. I still say, other than Cliff Metallica didn't tune their guitars down 'til the Black Album.

    I think its funny because the way they describe how they do the songs and the fact there was no pressure from the label to do anything other than give them 8 songs. I honestly believe the black album and load and even st anger were all the same. They did what they wanted to do it had nothing to do with the label telling them anything or trying to do what others wanted. They wanted to be the biggest band in the world from very early on and they wanted to do it their way and that is exactly what they did. They never sold out in any decade. People who say so or say their stylistic changes would never happen with cliff still around those people honestly don't have a clue what they're talking about. Cliffs influence has alot to do with them going in a different direction. He had the broadest musical taste of all the members including classical music so I'm not sure why everyone thinks cliff was a thrash only guy that "would never allow them to do load" it's just stupid.

      have you ever tried a grilled shrimp taco? in my opinion, there's nothing better. especially with sauteed tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers. basically if you have all the same stuff with fajitas, except substitute beef or chicken with grilled shrimp. know what i'm saying?

      I agree - Burton opened their minds to different genres and he 100% spearheaded Metallica to explore areas in metal that their peers were too scared (or unable) to do.
      I just feel Burton would have been been disgusted by the antics - particularly in the Load era, up until Hetfield went to rehab. It’s hard to say, because you just never know how someone’s personality evolves, especially when success and money is thrown into the mix. Who knows?
      But I agree- I don’t think Metallica ever sold out either. I firmly believe they always did what they wanted to do. And they still do.

      I wish Metallica would have waited till they were older to make load and reload . A few more albums similar to mop or the black album would have been cool. I love death Magnetic and hard wired is just ok. I agree with everything you said too.

      I'd prevoiusly thought this interview wasn't on the internet but you're right, I found excepts from it. I bought the interview in picture disc in 1998 at a second-hand record store. It was pressed in '85 or '86 and there are only 2,500 of 'em. In additon to that I found a pressing of their Whiplash single on Megaforce, Jonny Z's label and both record sleeves are autographed by the band. \m/

    • @stedmangg
      @stedmangg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@shred9475 Sure, you can downplay him, but you could downplay anyone that way. You could also say "Kirk did nothing but write a couple riffs and steal Dave's solos." There's just no denying Metallica would be where they are or write the songs they've written if it weren't for Lars. I'd advise you to do some more research into what he's contributed to the band than keep repeating what your friends told you 20 years ago.
