Good luck. We flew to Cape Town last year and just because you “want” to carry on doesn’t mean you’ll be able to. Overseas flights are different and they can make you gate check a bag at a last minutes notice. We always check our luggage but also had a carry on since we had a 12 hour layover in Dubai and wanted to freshen up and change clothing there. Well, no go. They said we’d have to check the bag as we were getting on the plane so we had to go thru that bag to get out our important things (toiletry items, medications, etc). So be prepared for that. We also had a SMALL carry on bag too. Carry on luggage for international flights are smaller than normal too (and ours was under the requirements).
Yes, in my video where I unboxed my new AWAY luggage, I mentioned that the "bigger carry on" would only work for flights/airlines/larger planes. We almost always fly United Airlines, and I know it will fit in the overhead of the larger United planes. But, if I have to check it, no worries. At least I tried! :) So frustrating that you planned to have your things with you on your layover, but were unable to keep that bag with you. Travel is always an adventure, and we just have to adapt and roll with it! I hope your trip was lovely!
It was great and luckily we had a backpack that wasn't very full so we could take out some things for our super long layover (we left the airport and went up the Burj Khalifa. Now we know we want to go back. LOL! I'm so used to checking since we live in Montana and we have small CRJ planes out of here and it's always a gate check thing. I've just learned to take on what's valuable and important to me in my tote or backpack and hope for the best. Enjoy! Can't wait to hear your review of that luggage. I'm SO tempted.

I showed the smaller Longchamp Le Pliage bag I will be roaming around the island with (from my carry on Neverful GM tote part of the video) and I will just use my Louis Vuitton toiletry 19 as a dinner clutch!

Thank you! First, find fabrics that don't wrinkle too much. Then roll and shove. LOL. Roll everything up as nicely as possible and shove the rolls into all the available cracks and crevices!! You can roll up a top and and stick it in your shoe...things like that. Unpack and unroll as soon as you reach your destination, and all wrinkles will work themselves out pretty well.
You are a fantastic packer! We, too, are heading to Tahiti this year - this gets me excited! Just wondering - some items, like hand cream and lip balm, are in your Toiletry 19 - should they not be in the TSA bag? Also, I think you should forgo the blue jeans (you won't need them) and save that room to bring your shopping back!
Thanks, fellow Tahiti traveler! Yes, the hand cream needs to go in the TSA bag, but I think the lip balm will be ok. I agree about not taking the jeans, too. We are going to be there at the end of the rainy season and were told it can get chilly at night, but I still don't think I will wear them. Plus, I can't imagine hiking around in wet jeans. Wow!! You are a perfectionist when it comes to packing!! Wish I could hire you to pack for me!! I absolutely LOVE the airline foot stool!!! And the antibacterial wipes are definitely a MUST not just for the seats, but for everything!! When I go to a hotel room, everything gets wiped down!! Light switches, door knobs, remote control, bathroom!! I go crazy with those things!!! LOL I was a GM in hospitality for many years!! I have witnessed a lot!!

hehehe, i'm all about the carry-on life! I've done 2 overseas trips just with carry on. 1 was for 10 days and the other a week. And I'm amazed I actually wore everything! Packaging cells/compression bags are the best thing in the world! LOL, I'm watching your videos backwards :\ whoops!
You're a magician - so much stuff so perfectly packed. It's a great idea to colour coordinate with an added pop. My problem is shoes. I always need that extra 'just in case' pair. The necklace straws are a great idea too. I used that tip on my last holiday and it saved me time as nothing had tangled. Can't wait to see you in your Tahiti outfits. J xx
I totally understand the shoe dilemma! Then I realized that I would come home from a trip and unpack a couple pairs of shoes I didn't even end up wearing! Perhaps you could plan to re-wear a dinner outfit and add in the extra shoes! xoxo

We have a beach bag that fits perfectly (packed flat) in the bottom of my husband's carry on. And I always use whatever shampoo and conditioner the hotel provides. :)
I would love the away bag, we travel a lot but most of time we have to take a small plane out of Des Moines airport . I wonder if it would meet their guidelines? Have a wonderful trip!!
Iowa Dutch Girl CVK I leave from Des Moines as well, and have used the smaller AWAY. Depending upon the flight, it is occasionally gate checked (small regional jets). Cheers!

Thank you! I actually do very little buying while on trips. But if I find something I have to have that doesn't fit in my bag, I will either shove it into my hubby's bag or even mail it home! I find that jewelry is a great keepsake from my travels, and it is small and can be worn on the plane on the way home! :)

I have traveled with my carry on and my Keepall 45 quite a few times, and have never had a problem. Some tiny planes may need to gate check your carry on due to overhead compartment restrictions, but the K45 has fit under the seat in front of me on every plane I've been in.

Yes, I just use what the hotel provides, or grab some at a local store while I'm there, if I feel the need.
