    You lift my spirits so much, Beau! Despite my anxiety, you've had me smiling almost the entire video... Not for anything specifically, but just from you being you. Thank you for sharing yourself with us! (Oh, and we don't mind you talking to us; That's all part of your unique charm! I hope your family is doing well, too! Happy, happy holidays, Beau.)😊💜

    Bed springs. Or rather a mattress support. Used to span across that bed frame to support a mattress before box springs.

    The hook thingy is part of a single or doubletree. It was used to fasten the pull point of wagons or farm equipment. It could have been used to fasten the ferry to a cable. Then if the flow was fairly good no other motive power than the moving water would have been necssary. Good greif! A headless duck; for the man who has everything!

    Could the doorknob actually be a brass bed knob?? You know the decoration on the bed ends - would make more sense as it has no holes for screws to attach it to a door fitting. Your videos are great by the way, I have a tiny crush, just a small one... may have to get myself a metal detector - the machine, not the man....😉

    Great video as per usual. I initially thought the linked wire was segments of surveyors chains used to measure distances as ropes or twine would stretch especially when wet, but I am more inclined to go with the bed frame idea. Great variety of videos please keep them coming 👍

    The iron at 34:10 is a surveyor's chain. It was used to map out distances usually if their was a dispute over a farmer's land. They can date back to the early 1800's but we're also still in use until the 1930's.

    the hammer head is from a ... hm, in German we call it Steinhauer - that is the a now obsolete unskilled laborer who makes coarse huge blocks of stones in a quarry which are then sold to masons. the hammer type in German is called Setzhammer. (Sorry, I lack the English terminology). The hole for the handle is usually smaller than you would expect from a hammer thats ment to be swung (in order to reduce vibration) because this hammer was only set on the rock to be hit with a sledge hammer in order to split the rock, and not ment to be lifted over the head.

    • @peterkoller3761
      @peterkoller3761 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the brass knob you found is probably from a bed post. Looks a bit too weak for a door knob. is the porcellain plate painted or printed?

    • @garboots
      @garboots 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      peter koller steinhauer is a stonemason.

    • @peterkoller3761
      @peterkoller3761 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks. so, in English, you are also making the difference between a stonemason, who prepares the blocks, and the mason, who then makes something more sophisticated out of these blocks?

    • @garboots
      @garboots 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      peter koller as far as my knowledge, a stonemason is just someone who works with stone.

    • @garboots
      @garboots 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      peter koller a person that works at a quarry to remove the stone from the ground may be called a quarryman.

    Those cast iron pipes come in handy for using as a leverage for lifting heavy objects.
    Also I’ve used them to help turn Ratchets. For example trying to take lug nuts off a
    tractor wheel by sticking the ratchet handle down in the pipe for leverage. 👍✌️

    Thanks for the close ups of the spiders. I happen to like them very much. :) Spiders and humans, in my opinion, are the perfect partners. Not only do we use their venom in important medications, but they ensure that the Earth remains inhabitable for us prevent the spread of insect-borne diseases by keeping the populations of problem insects down. As long as they have a steady food supply, spiders are always welcome in my house. :)

    the twisted wire chain could be from a bed, but for some reason 'trace chains' come to mind, like would be used for ox teams or draft horses. then throw in damaged stirrups and all possibly was a farrier/blacksmith on the 2nd side of river. love the vids, has pushed me back to hunting more seriously than have for last few years

    The gear at 13:20 is a differential, the center section of an axle, which allows power to be transmitted to both wheels, yet have them turn at different speeds around corners. Guessing based on the rather lightweight design but large outer diameter, that this came from a 1910-1930 truck.
