Now if they could bring these new design updates to the non gmt version and also release a smaller 38 or 39 mm model I would be all over that watch and buy it immediately. Also a time only version of this watch would be so gorgeous, or is that too much to ask for :)
They need to fix the play in the bezel and move the date window to the 6 o’clock position and use the circular hour marker at 3 o’clock to balance the dial.
Thanks for doing a video review of this watch. I think it's a solid entry luxury type watch. It's more of a dive watch with an "Oh, it's also a traveler GMT. Nice!" type bonus included. Of course, you do pay for that over the old HydroConquest, but I think it was a smart move. I really appreciate you pointing out the funkiness of adjusting the hour hand, as well as the play in the bezel. Those are the type of things we can't find out through photos and intro articles. Better to have that info out there and let us decide if it would be something that bothers us than buy one (especially online) and end up disappointed. I absolutely love that they have a quick adjust clasp, and that brands are starting to move that more down in price level. Longines, please update the clasp on the Spirits and Zulu Time line to include this clasp. That's all those models are missing. I really did not like the circular markers at the 6 and 9 position at first, but it does give the watch personality. I'm a bit more neutral now. There may be something that could work better, but not one that comes to mind. Something like the Monta Skyquest does offer better finishing (having handled the Skyequest and from what I can tell of the HydroConquest), but the traveler GMT functionality could be the deal maker here for some. If the micro brands can get a hold of a Swiss traveler GMT movement, watch out big brands! My biggest gripe is I'd have loved those circular markers at 3 and 9, with the date moved to the 6 o'clock position like on the Zulu Times and Spirit 37mm. To be fair, the asymmetry was worse on the older HydroConquest with the numerals.
I own the version in blue with the bracelet and like it a lot. The indices are based on the Longines Admiral diver in the 90s. The bracelet is comfortable and solid with a useful adjustment. There is a bit of play in the bezel but the polishing does not affect my ability to grip it. Same with the crown. As for the movement, there is no other way you can get a true gmt with a 70+ hour power reserve and a silicon hairspring for $2750.
IMHO very similar to another Swatch brand, Mido's Ocean Star GMT, which I own & love. The hour hand when setting it is as you described. The bracelet on the Longines seems much better though, especially the on the fly micro adjust. The Mido's has one of those ratcheting extensions, which is ok but more for use over a wet suit. The Mido is half the price of the Longines, but I don't think half as good. It's really close to the quality of the Longines. Great review!
They need to make the date window circular to make the random circular index at 6 and 9 make sense. Otherwise I can't unsee it. Or they just make them all rectangles. 6 and 9 as triangles would also work really well, I think.
The Hydroconquest has always looked cheap to me, but I can't quite figure out why. And I say that as the owner of a Longines Spirit Titanium (so this is not against Longines as a brand)
agreed, its got a lot of clunky design language, the hand design specifically, the font and the bezel edge as well are too overdone, looks like the thousand knock off dive watches from cheap chinese companies. I really wish companies would get more creative with bezel inserts/fonts, so many look the same.
Agree. The feeling when you handle a BB58 is totally different. You have a premium feeling you don't have with the HC. Maybe Longines should add some finishing on the case like they do for the zulu time.
‘For the price’, this is the cheapest travellers gmt from a truly well established swiss luxury brand by a landslide. Chronometer cert would be nice but that costing more would be absolutely appropriate
Would love to have the "Automatic" script from the Legend diver carry over into this model, too, with no other script. Agreed, there's too much going on on the dial shapewise
The 24 hr hand wobble is really bad and noticeable on this watch. Makes it feel really cheap when manipulating the hour hand. It's a shame because it's a very nice package overall. The bezel action could use some refinement as well. Still for the cost I think you are getting a lot of watch for the money and the case size and shape is spot-on perfect.
At this price point the movement should be COSC certified like the Zulu time models. That is just cheap and greedy on their part . I won’t be buying one . A decent job on the design part though . Oh and the 21 mm lug width is also poor.

There’s enough watches for the slight of wrist folks. Keep something for the big wristed fellas.
@@tottenhamnole nothing wrong with having 2 sizes for a particular model is it? One above 40mm and one below 40 mm is perfect

This is a gmt version 😂of
I love the honest review. One of the few channels that isn't afraid to actually critique a watch fairly.
Completely agree. Most publication reviews are just promotional videos.

I got one with the black dial. No issues with the indices and personally I like it. But I do miss the arabic 6, 9 and 12 though
Tf they make a 39mm version I would strongly consider buying since I need a GMT and a dive watch. This is 2 in 1!

You haven’t checked “Certina” then, its sister brand which has it for 1100$ roughly, true GMT divers..

not a bad idea
Yep. As trivial as it is, it's a deal breaker for me.
Good idea 👍
Yeah agree, or even put the circles at 3 & 9 with the date window at 6, which would add the symmetry a lot of OCD watch enthusiasts desire
Would love to see that Monta v. Longines v. Formex video

I agree. Looks like the Hydros are my by fashion brand factories. Now the Spirit in SS looks like high horology.

Very nice and I like Longines but would rather spend 40% for a Mido true GMT like the Decompression Timer
Longines "Lucky Charms" GMT
I like the new styling (less wacky crown guards). But for the price, I'd wish for chronometer certification.
‘For the price’, this is the cheapest travellers gmt from a truly well established swiss luxury brand by a landslide. Chronometer cert would be nice but that costing more would be absolutely appropriate
I'm pretty sure this is the same movement in the Zulu Time. So, in technicality it has the certification.
@@ramonconcepcion4958yup same calibre movement just not Chronometer certified. So you save a few £$€ that way
Hopefully they bring this out in a smaller size quickly, like they did with the Zulu time.

I think this is an interesting watch, the Zulu time is much cooler in my opinion and that would be my choice
Why oh why did Longines f up the dial by making the indices at the 9 and 6 different. The dial is friggin lopsided. I love Longines, but come on. 🤦♂️
Make it 39/40mm then I might consider buying it.
I was debating between this and the Tudor Black Bay Pro. I chose the Tudor because of the higher level of finishing and the size.

No lume?
Nice
The square date window missed opportunity they shouldve made it a circle like the 6 and 9 indices. No creativity
This has the same movement as the Zulu time? As in it’s a cosc gmt? Huh now the price seems like a bargain!
Same movement but not cosc certified.

Too large!
You can get basically the same thing (similar look) with the Mido GMT. No one is ever going to use the GMT function anyway. The price is way too high.
What a crappy mess on the dial. Round plots, hour markers, a square on the seconds hand, a triangle at 12. OMG 😵💫😵💫
Too big. Again.
Yeah if they make a 39mm I would buy it 100%
41 mm is too big ? 😅
