I got married there and loved every minute at that resort and on the island. The best experience! I was so sad to hear the resort hit with the hurricanes. I saw that an investor and plans on renovating to reopen. 🤞🏼
I’m so sad to see a beautiful resort abandoned. Me and my husband honeymooned at Sugar Bay back 2011 😢 So many great memories. Hopefully they will rebuild soon.
Thank you for giving us an up close look at Sugar Bay! The exposure hopefully will get interest and hopefully lead to whispers of purchase and development! Remember Sunday Brunch? This was the place, mehson! I loved staying here! We used to have a little contest... counting iguanas to see who could spot them first, but you only got credit for the ones that were camouflaged against the trees and flowers. You had to look really closely. Good times! Great video and thanks for the memories!
My wife and I got married there in 2009. It is kind of sad to see it in this condition but just seeing it brought back a lot of good memories. Thanks for sharing this video, guys!
I was on the opening team of the at the time was the Sugar Bay Plantation Resort,by Holiday Inn brand. It was only the 2nd self contained property that made its own power, water, processed it stage for Grey water. That pool and waterfall was connected to the fire pumps to provide firefighting water for the property! Good memories!
Damn guys 😥😥😥😥 We honeymooned here for two weeks! It was the most beautiful place I had ever been in my life. The New Yorker concierge was the shit! My room service man was the bomb. I loved the stay and respected the culture and home of my V.I brothers and sisters. Thanks for the update fella's, no matter how sad it is. Much love
@@mblydenvlogs that's a wonderful idea! I know when we were there last year in July a black car was coming and going. We thought maybe someone was fixing it up. We didn't get a good look this year while there to know though. Also, I'm going to be watching your St. Croix videos again. We'll be there in less than 2 weeks.
My favorite place to visit! I’m surprised no one has bought the property yet & fixed it up (I wish I had the money to invest)! I have such great memories staying there and visiting STT.
Love the climb to the resort on the rocks. Reminds me of when sometimes our dad would give us $10 and we would walk to Limetree and then crawl along the rocks to Frenchmans Reef to play the arcade games. We were gone for the whole day, so it was cheap babysitting.
Karen We spent our honeymoon there 20 years ago and visited it several times since... Do you know how to get in contact with Stan? I'm wondering how he is doing? Why is the resort abandoned. Hurricanes and COVID-19?
To be honest I didn’t know it was abandoned until I happened upon this video! I know the owners struggled to make ends meet here, the property was desperate for upgrade and while I was there they started a major renovation that apparently never got finished. I assume Irma and Maria defeated them. It’s a shame, it was a beautiful property with tons of potential.
They use to have mini golf in Anna's Retreat. At the bottom of the hill from Brent Steele's property. I use to live up there. What a shame to see what has become of Sugar Bay. And all the beautiful beaches. 😢 I left the island in 2007 after 30 odd years. Thanks for your videos. 🥰🌴 I can catch up on what I've been missing. 🤗
Yes the hotel was sold. I’m not sure who the new owners are. Recently they’ve been allowing people on the property to gather what furniture and appliances they want and selling it to them.
I would Love to come back and photograph and video the process of its rehab. I was a photographer at the resort some years back. One of the most amazing places in the Caribbean.
So what is the actual damage assessment that keeps it from being repaired? Is it structural, or is it a matter of financial cost? Is the building structurally sound? I have spent two summers there and I can't believe this has let go this point.
What an awesome looking place. I’m watching while I type. What happened to it, why did it go into modern ruin? Edit: I’m reading comments further down. Hurricane roof damage. Shame. Looks awesome though
I think my video prompted several companies interest in the property, because two weeks later several people were touring the property and one eventually purchased it and they’re working on repairing the roof as we speak!
The property sustained heavy damage when the islands were hit by 2 category 5 hurricanes in the fall of 2017. The hurricanes were Irma and Maria both with winds in excess of over 200MPH. I believe 2 out of the three main buildings lost 50-100% of the roofing so the the top floors of those buildings will have to under go major renovations and mold remediation.
They technically closed right after the hurricanes in 2017. They laid off most of the workers and had a skeleton crew. The only offered their rooms to crews coming on to help with recovery efforts after the hurricane. Once those crews left and with no one serious about purchasing the property they closed.
How sad. When we looked into going back, it had turned into a brothel - you could have wild sex there and if you didn’t have a girlfriend to bring on your spring break, they would supply you with one. They earned whatever ruin came to them.
Someone did recently purchase they property and things are on the move. I don’t know who purchased the property or what they plan to do with it though.

We stayed in 2006. It was such a great family vacation and beautiful resort! We had so much fun on the island! 🏝️
Thanks for watching. It truly was a beautiful hotel. They are finally working on getting repaired and back open!
@@mblydenvlogs that’s great to hear! I am back on the island today on a cruise for the first time since. You have a beautiful home! 😀
Thank You! Enjoy your stay on our beautiful island!

Same but in 2002...

Thank you for posting this. We were wondering what exactly happened to the hotel. So sad to see it in shambles, but you can't erase the memories.
Lots of memories here. There is where I went for my Junior year prom!

wow can't believe that property is just sitting there!!!! Luv the movie reference, lol
Thanks for posting the vid I used to play piano there for a couple of years up until Irma/Maria.
Sad, so many memories I had there. See if you can do one on the former Caneel Bay, love to see that.
Can't wait to watch this video! I love your videos as always!
And thanks always for watching. Have an awesome day!
My husband and I have been curious about this property. Lots of potential but just sitting there. So glad you done this video!
I've recently watched a video about Disney's Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. I think we can do the same here: th-cam.com/video/rFs64P1C_Tg/w-d-xo.html

This is the first time I’m learning about that mini golf in Anna’s retreat. Thanks for sharing.
It was there in 1975. Before the Mall was built. The good old days of "Let's swing with King" 🎵🎶 I'm sure you're parents could tell you about it.
So sad to see this beautiful place like this. Was married there on the beach in 2011 and what wonderful memories we have of our time there 😢
This is absolutely HEARTBREAKING! I was married at this resort years ago!!! It was beautiful!!!
Hopefully someone can purchase it and bring it back to its original form or even better!
Hotel was finally sold. Do you know what plans the new owners have for the property?

Stayed there 2014 and 2017 nice place.
Yes it was a lovely hotel. It’s finally under construction though. Hopefully they’ll build it back even better.
Went there in 2012, had a blast
They’re finally rebuilding it now!
The swim up bar was being built when we were honeymooning there in June 2011.
Just went there today. Much faster route over the rocks from pleasure point. Like, 2 minutes total
WOW! I didn't know Sugar Bay was destroyed like that!! But the last buyers did wrong by the local community so what goes around.....
The last time i heard anything about this property, it was under negotiations to be sold. Unfortunately, i dont know what happened.
I’ve actually learned that since I’ve made this video two groups have actually toured the property in hopes of purchasing it!
@@mblydenvlogs I truly hope someone buys it. Even in disrepair, its still a beautiful property.

Blessings everybody! Wow, why is it abandoned? It could be used for housing and community center.
Always makes me feel sad to see abandoned spots.
Me too. I watch abandon property videos on TH-cam all the time. This was my first time creating one.
Would you be able to explore Almond Beach Village/Resort in St Peter?
That’s in Barbados. Unfortunately I don’t have plans to go there anytime soon.
What damage caused the closure? Structurally, most things look okay..

Wow! 😮
Sad I stayed Jan 2016
If I’m not mistaken after the hurricanes 4 years ago that place pretty much been abandoned
When did the resort closed ?

The only offered their rooms to crews coming on to help with recovery efforts after the hurricane. Once those crews left and with no one serious about purchasing the property they closed.
I was here in 2001 for my honeymoon.
What year was it abandoned ?
2018
yep I remember the mini-golf
any other abandon/forgotten places like this???
unfortunately yes
Was this abandoned because of hurricane damage?
Yes it was.
That is so sad, it looks like it was, and could be beautiful again with some TLC.
@@amandafox815 potential buyers are actively looking at the property, so we’ll see what happens.

I got married there.
Oh wow! They’re in the process of renovating it right now.
What a waste. I spent many days there. I went to many parties there too. What a shame that it couldn't be transformed into low income housing.
Dem man need to stop wasting time and geh da hotel back up n running. U cya have one part ah di island lookin good and di other part trash

Mahogany Run never came to mind but that’s a great idea 💡
