She went to the wrong place. When you bring a chill vibe, people will be chill with you. If you expect people to jump when you say jump, and treat you like a god, this isn't the place for you. Also, she doesn't strike me as someone who would spend any time familiarizing herself with local customs before taking a vacation. Greeting people is so important in the USVI, and if you don't do it, you're starting the interaction off on the wrong foot right away. Certain people just have a talent to alientate service industry workers by acting superior and entitled. You get much better results when you approach these kind of interactions with a flexible attitude. I suspect this woman has the exact same issues in her daily interactions with the service industry wherever she lives.

It's crazy how empty downtown is now. Back in the day you could hardly walk down the street much less drive. They use to even have a movie theater. Lots of Bruce Lee movies 😅 So glad I was part of that time. 🌴🥰

Beautiful place to visit. Just got back and enjoyed it immensely!! Trunk Bay was awesome, and shout out the guys at Fun Times Jet Skiing!! Prime Steakhouse was good but not nothing to write home about except the view! Coki Beach was a little sketchy but ok and shout out to my bartenders at Margaritaville!

Ask your ''Current'' GOVERNOR where is the money going . Ask the construction companies that bid, and got the contracts, why is it taking so long to start repairing etc...I do not live in the VI, but why keep voting the same people in office, if they didn't do anything in 4 years, why vote them in for another 4 years?????

This Sista was spot on. No one can tell you how you feel and how you were treated. My experience was similiar to hers. We had an Airbnb and we did not have a car. I chose not to get a car because I wanted to enjoy the experience and get away from the traffic which I’m accustomed too. Prior to our visit. I watched videos but only saw the videos of food etc. I did not see the videos of the rudeness here. I googled the rudeness of this place once we started interacting with the locals. I asked myself what was going on with the attitudes. Once I googled St. Thomas rudeness. There were blogs about the rudeness but it was more of racial issues from white people. However, I’m a Sista and didn’t understand what was really going on. So I remained chilled. I just watched the vibe of the people. We had lunch at Iggie’s and the server had a nasty attitude for no reason, lol. I’m like go back to bed and get back up. What’s happening here! We visited Mim’s for dinner and the staff showed nothing but love. The chef was amazing and very pleasant. I cooked during our visit, which I chose too. I had to make a couple of trips to the market via taxi service. The lady (caucasian) who had taken us on our first run was kind and did not rush us into the point of hysterics. Mind you, Ernesto was making its way here as we landed. She had to go home and handle her business. I was very grateful for her doing that. The second run was a taxi driver from St. Kitts. He was stand offish and told me I needed to hurry up. So me and my child raced through the grocery store in fear of him leaving us and not able to get back. We waited for about 7 minutes for him to return to his van. He too had gone into the store and did a little shopping. We had done all of that and looking crazy in the store for nothing. I was running like Wilma Rudolph because I respected his time. Mind you, Ernesto was finished masquerading the island. I had told my hubby about the encounters and he said it seems like your issues are with the women and I said you’re right . As far as the greetings. I was told by the lady who had taken us to the store that it’s a sign of respect etc. I told her my parents raised us to say good morning etc. However, greeting some here didn’t matter. You can smile and say good morning good morning and they’ll give you the stank face. Okay, so that didn’t work, lol. So I just continued to smile because I knew that I will not be returning to this place and couldn’t wait to leave. I’ve visited other Caribbean islands and my experiences have been very pleasant. I have traveled in my profession and there isn’t one place that I have worked and haven’t made an impact on someone’s life. I can call them if I needed a place to rest my head. You don’t know who you will need in this life. Kindness is medicine. What you serve you will eat. No excuses. Slavery is a mentality. The island thrives on tourism, so one is willing to risk their bread and butter with rudeness? Nah. You don’t know who can be of assistance to you by networking and taking the time to elevate you. You can go through life mad or smell the roses. So many of us have experienced and will experience racism. You must not let that stop you💯

I got married there and loved every minute at that resort and on the island. The best experience! I was so sad to hear the resort hit with the hurricanes. I saw that an investor and plans on renovating to reopen. 🤞🏼

I believe that part of the attitude in customer service stems from the fact, that it is hard to be constantly cordial to people who come to your home for fun in the sun, when you yourself work hard yet have no real outlets for fun and entertainment for yourself and kids during your off days or can't afford to do anything because the cost of living is so high.
