Tony Mortimer, one of the band members’ brother died a while before Stay Another Day was released. And I believe it was written for him. At 3:42 in the Stay Another Day video when Tony’s face slides across the screen, you can see a tear come down his face if you look closely. Also, Stay Another Day seemed Christmassy because it was released in December and reached Number 1 in the UK at Christmas in 1994!
East 17 are definitely one of the most underrated UK band of all time, they’re one of the few boy bands (if not the only boy band) that I like, their music is unique and uniquely beautiful written.
Stay Another Day was written by band member, Tony Mortimer, The song is about his brother’s suicide. He never wanted this song to be released because it was so personal but the record company released it anyway at Christmas time. Tony Mortimer has donated much of the money to CALM, a British mens’ mental health suicide prevention charity.
Its funny cause in Australia we didnt have the "clean" version and years later i thought THAT was the special edition. In my religious Education class in high school the teacher played songs to represent the different forms of love and Deep was for Eros !
Ahhhh yes East 17 the bad boys of pop. It’s a shame their career got cut short after Brian Harvey (lead singer) admission of doing drugs live on a radio interview. East 17 were seen as direct rivals to Take That who were the good boys of pop, some would say how Spice Girls were the pop divas and All Saints were the more grittier group. They’ve had man incarnations over the years but nothing really captured what they had in the 90’s. Such a shame tbh
I actually worked in a cafe where they used to meet at the height of their fame. Truly, you couldn't have hoped to meet such a genuinely nice group of guys. So good to their fans and just so polite and well mannered!!!!
I love your reactions to East 17 videos. Well done ! Something funny though, I was a huge East 17 fan back in the day and I never, ever saw that Stay Another Day music video myself, all my life I saw another one with the band singing around a piano, but this music video is very funny, I didn't expect that. If they seem so young to you in the music video of House Of Love it's because it's their very first single, Deep was next, then Gold (a house of love-like song that you should listen too), then It's Alright. Steam was a single from their 2nd album of the same name and Stay Another Day followed. This last one was indeed their Christmas song. Number 1 in the U.K. on December of 1994. There was, at the time a huge charts fight between Take That and East 17 songs for the number one position but they won this time. Songs you should also listen to next from the band are : Around The World, Thunder, Someone To Love (all beautiful ballads) and Let It Rain (another energic song like House Of Love, It's Alright or Gold).
East 17 are named after the Post Code (or Zip Code) in which they grew up. The town is called Walthamstow. I grew up in Chingford which is the town next door, where the Post Code is East 4. East stands for East London. One of my favourite East 17 songs is called 'If You Ever,' which is a duet between them and Gabrielle, who is a female soul singer.
Stay another day was very intentionally Christmas themed, because up until that time they hadn't had a number 1, and as you can probably tell it did get to number 1 for Christmas. Not my favourite east 17 song. The song they sang with Gabrielle is probably my favourite.
OMG… Stay Another Day is a total Christmas anthem. Girls Aloud done an amazing cover of it when they first got together, when I hear it now tho it makes me think of Sarah 😢
Stay Another Day,seeing that other filled you in on most parts,i can add that the fact that it was released so close to christmas, most probably had them choosing to add the christmas chimes in the background,as it simply would be fitting with the upcoming holidays as well. But yeah, this was mostly a tribute, memoriable honor video of Tonys brother. Brian and the guys were always usually all positive and smiles,so you can tell by theyr faces that this affected them all. 5:35 Now you got to meet theyr Mascot,Levi. She was John`s dog,i think she made it all the way to 18 years old wich is a really good and long life for a dog. John of course is one of the background dancers, the one with the less facial hair and often no hair or a thin mohawk on top. 6:13 Theyr band logo, and i think the inspiration was from Levi. Although i know Brian has had dogs too,so maybe a mix. Anyway, they are total dog lovers so the logo was easy for them. John is on the keyboard in House Of Love btw. Brian Havey had just turned 28 when they released House Of Love as theyr debut single, i believe John Hendry was around 30,Tony Mortimer was around 31-ish i think, and Terry Coldwell is born just 1 month earlier the same year as Brian (the 2 youngest),so he had also just turned 28 that summer. Terry had just had his birthday 1 month prior, and Brian pretty much celebrated his birthday when this released in August 1992. And yes, they look ALOT younger then in theyr late 20s,early 30s here lol. Good genes i guess! The speedy text across the video of House Of Love is theyr own descriptions of themselfs,i find Terrys the funniest: dances well but sings badly! Not only did i prefer theyr sound and style better then any other boyband, but also theyr personalities. Self ironic humor, sarcastic, goofy, did not look too highly upon themselfs, but at the same time great confidence in what they were doing. Funfact: Terry is the only remaining original member today, still trying to keep the band alive. Steam is easily theyr hottest song,no puns intendedI really enjoyed seeing the shifting expressions throughout the video, and the remarks on a moaning woman in the back had me bursting out in laughter! Deep is still one of the most beautifully composed RnB and HipHop inspired songs i have heard, with the female supporting vocals, and the instrumentals. Absolutely amazing production and delieverance from the guys. Brian is actually trying to keep a straight face through several of the scenes,as you can tell he is about to laugh or turn into a huge smile, but had to remain in a "cool character". But in the next scene they are playing around, and just being themselfs, wich is ironic and funny in itself. East-17 is by many if not most looked upon as that matured boyband that went left, where all the other boybands went right. They had theyr debut as fully grown men, wich i think speaks alot for theyr sound. They would not be comfortable doing alot of typical boyband stuff. And Brian especially has expressed that he really enjoys singing RnB songs, and Tony as a rapper and vocalist of course is naturally inspired by hiphop and genres alike. In total, they were inspired by alot of different music. Really unique, they showed you they could go high, brutal and fast, they could carry a slow ballad,or they could vibe out with RnB/HipHop. If there is even more to them (No spoilers!) I would have to let you find out for yourself haha. One of my favourite collabs in music ever,is gonna be my suggestion for future reactions. All i can say is that this is abit older East-17 then especially House Of Love and Steam. East 17 - If You Ever (feat Gabrielle) [Official Video] There are several uploads of this video, one they let Gabrielle upload on her own channel,1 is a russian fan upload, and one is from London Records. I wrote down the title of the London Records one,as it has the clearest quality. It doesnt seem to be listed by just searching for the song and band name,so if it doesnt pop up,add London Records in the search bar too,and it magicly appears.
i noticed that i derped in my description of If You Ever,of course i meant that the guys had grown abit older, but the song is more recent then House Of Love and Steam especially lol.
My fav boyband ever! They was the rival band to take that! And sold over 20 million records worldwide, i saw them live many times they were fantastic, they wrote the majority of their own music too. Brians voice was fantastic! They even played in a gay club in Birmingham uk the once and they rocked the joint. They made pop music hip hop style music, r&b, and dance music, check the album steam out! out of this world
As I said b4 sweetie now u see the divide. U was either east 17 fan or take that fan. I weren't allowed to be both lol it was a 90s teen rivalry thing. Damn those 90s teen ethics 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice 'cleaner' version of deep. Love brian to this day. To say he has had trials and tribulations is an understatement. I hope he finds what hes looking for
Its unique to this day as so many East 17 tracks are... I think they are a little like the UKs version of P.M. Dawn - the writer is a Christian who likes hiphop, R&B, Pop and infuses faith into the music Attrell in PM dawn was attacked for incorporating Rap and so was Tony in East 17 so they both swore off it towards the end of their eras
In the 'House Of Love' video you see the facade of Walthamstow Dog Track (Stadium), which is basically the boundary between Chingford and Walthamstow. It's closed now but there are several apartment buildings behind it.
Stay another day, written by Tony for his brother who died around that time (this was their only No1 single (Christmas no1) from their second album (Steam) House of Love was their first hit from first album (Walthamstow) Steam(single) was first track from second album (Steam) Deep was from first album (Walthamstow)
👌 Great choice in your diverse tastes in music. East 17 are like the bad boys IE brickie builders and Take That were like the more clean cut good boys IE office workers 😃 - look forward to maybe a part 2 in future 😎🙏
The band always had a tough image but their songs were the opposite. You might like their songs, If you Ever with Gabrielle. Been Around the world and Do you still. Btw East17 was actually a post code from where they lived in Walthamstow London.
That :) Would like to see reaction for "Thunder", "Let it rain", "Hold my body tight" and "If you ever" with Gabreille, please, please :). I think they were like best of from East 17. In Polen big hits ;)
The video of "Stay Another Day" you've watched was a first video version. The record label didn't liked it, so they recorded a new one, which was aired back then in music television (I think that was the right decision, as the first version was kind of cringe). At the time they recorded the video for "House Of Love" two of them were 17 and the two others 21. If you want to react to further East 17 videos, you can use the playlist in my channel. I've chosen the best video versions I could find (as the versions from London Records aren't alwas the best/right).
Brian Harvey (the lead singer) had a bad car accident which nearly ended his life when his own car ran over him after he fell out while being sick after eating too many potatoes. True story!
Yes, yes, yes!!! Finally!!!👍👍👍You made my day, but p l e a s e , p l e a s e , p l e a s e react to the song Deep one more time, but the "adult" version!!! It's much more better, because of the lyrics!!! BELIEVE me!
I like Stay another day and ‘If you ever’ featuring Gabrielle but they really weren’t on take that’s level. 🫢😳🙊 I said it, sorry 🤦🏻♀️ xx Tony Mortimer wrote a lot of the songs, he had an ear xx
take that had some technically close to perfect Pop songs but to East 17s credit they ventured into hiphop , R&B and electronic stuff and thats on most tracks Gary Barlow is a brilliant vocalist and writer no doubt
Tony Mortimer, one of the band members’ brother died a while before Stay Another Day was released. And I believe it was written for him. I'd forgotten they'd done this clean version of Deep. The original is filth!
Its funny cause in Australia we didnt have the "clean" version and years later i thought THAT was the special edition.

stay another day kept Mariah all i want for Christmas off the number 1 spot back in 1994 she eventually got Christmas number 1 26yrs later in 2020 😂
Levi the dog, a true 90s boyband icon ❤

Stay Another Day stopped Mariah's All I Want For Christmas Is You from going to number 1 in 1994 in the UK.

Brian harvey has his own youtube channel called BHTV
Which is full of weed fueled paranoia and 50% swear word rants about everybody he ever worked with
Happy Christmas 😉

I wasn't much of an East 17 fan as a kid, but always liked Stay and Deep. They really stood the test of time too.
Stay another day was and always will be a christmas song
next song....Thunder, Let it rain, If you ever and Do U Still
My fav boyband ever! They was the rival band to take that! And sold over 20 million records worldwide, i saw them live many times they were fantastic, they wrote the majority of their own music too. When I was 13 I was given a Sony Walkman and East 17 cassette tape for my birthday 😅 I was so happy 😁
Should have listened to "Each Time"
A great RnB and you'd listen the lead singers full range
As I said b4 sweetie now u see the divide. U was either east 17 fan or take that fan. I weren't allowed to be both lol it was a 90s teen rivalry thing. Damn those 90s teen ethics 🤣🤣🤣🤣
For me the best East 17 videos are DO U STILL, AROUND THE WORLD and SOMEONE TO LOVE.

Gotta be Each Time or Betcha can't wait, from their RnB era after Tony Mortimer had left the group. These songs are so underrated.
In the 'House Of Love' video you see the facade of Walthamstow Dog Track (Stadium), which is basically the boundary between Chingford and Walthamstow. It's closed now but there are several apartment buildings behind it.
Stay another day is such an iconic Christmas song in the UK ❤
Stay another day, written by Tony for his brother who died around that time (this was their only No1 single (Christmas no1) from their second album (Steam)

I took my friend to the Steam tour for her birthday - I did not hear one word of the concert for all the screaming girls lol
Brian Harvey (the lead singer) had a bad car accident which nearly ended his life when his own car ran over him after he fell out while being sick after eating too many potatoes. True story!
And in around 01 he was attacked with a hatchet after a performance in Nottingham.
He is a volatile guy of his own accord though.
Yes, yes, yes!!! Finally!!!👍👍👍You made my day, but p l e a s e , p l e a s e , p l e a s e react to the song Deep one more time, but the "adult" version!!! It's much more better, because of the lyrics!!! BELIEVE me!
Let it rain should be on the list
We definitely need a video of you reacting to them live. Think it’s called letting of steam tour - great watch
E17 was a big crush for me in senior highschool. They were hot and us gay students wanted them to tour Australia! For i wanted Brian in me and on me.
Geez lad ! Hahaha
Oh no! I'm so sad it was the clean version of Deep.
Steam is their best music video and Song in my opinion.
You have to go back in time, but for 12-13 year olds it was great.
They have a unique sound and Steam is just the perfect song
You will hear stay now every christmas in the uk 😂
That was the censored version of Deep.
Please react to thunder and its alright by East 17
Id say that they were tacky and one album onders! Lol 😜
The band is nothing without Brian Harvey
I like Stay another day and ‘If you ever’ featuring Gabrielle but they really weren’t on take that’s level. 🫢😳🙊 I said it, sorry 🤦🏻♀️ xx
