    Seriously.....single best piece of audio gear that I've ever gotten. One that really makes a positive listening experience. Now I want the 9000 for when I get back to setting up my main rig. I walked away from audio for over 10 years because it became no fun. Instead of listening to music I would listen to the system and nitpick.I think my dissatisfaction was because of using that modded Aiwa transport as a source. 15 years or so ago, Stan's modded Aiwa and his modded MSB Link Dac were considered the the best bang for the buck entry into high end digital for those in the know. As good as it was in the day compared to most all in one players it just didn't hold up once engineers understood that the source of digital's sterility and harshness was due to jitter. I now, finally just love listening to the music. Sorry to ramble.....but really impressed by this bit of kit.

      Mine was delivered today. It's quite impressive, in fact very, very impressive connected to Marantz 7000n and using its DAC. Dire Straits Brother In Arms was first in and literally heard content I missed on my old marantz CD recorder. This transport is so well designed and simple to use. Thanks again for your video. As others have said ,best piece of audio gear purchased so far. Love it!

    Hi sir I have this unit plus the 6000 amp and may at some point go for the streamer . The cd transport has indeed been highly praised by many hifi reviewers especially if it used with a high quality DAC . But I’m quite happy with the DAC that is part of 6000 amp . The big selling point for me is that audiolab equipment represents such good value , yes there are others out there but not that many which do a family of products that are so well integrated . I bought my equipment purely on internet reviews , as I do with all my hifi because getting to see and hear stuff is a major issue . So far thanks to good people like you I’ve never been disappointed . Best wishes and kind regards 😀👍👍👍

      Hey Michael, great value no doubt. The streamer uses the same DAC and also has great sound the only down side for some is the play-fi app, I don’t personally have much of a problem with it though and they have been putting out some good updates on it recently. Thanks for watching.

    Had one of these for 18 months along with a 8300CDQ. Been trying to ignore rumours that these slot loaders damage certain discs when inserting or sometimes ejecting. The scuff marks are exactly the same across 25+ Japanese CDs I've bought in the last year, particularly Sony Universal pressings - they don't seem to scratch ALL discs though. The damage is scuff marks on the outer read layer of the disc, two identical marks around 4 inches apart where the machines pinch the disc to play or eject. Being as careful as possible, the correct amount of push force and making sure the discs are flat when entering or leaving the slots, they will just randomly scuff on the outer edges of the CD. Going to keep the CDQ for the DAC inputs and use that Slot player for old CDs that are scratched....but gutted I can't trust the mechanisms anymore for more expensive CDs.

    I purchased one in August 2023. It makes my CD's sound incredible compared to the old DVD player I was using as a drive. It does not scratch CD's. Note I have a very good system, a Music Hall integrated amp, and older (but still superb) MSB DAC with powerbase, and Linn Espek Speakers. In fact, it blows my online free music to bits- I cancelled my subcriptions. It is the best investment I have made to date.

    Ok....me again (sorry) Just to prove to myself the 'bits are bits" argument is bunk, I bought an open box Sony DVD player for $12. Of course......no contest. But . as someone who trained as a scientist, I had to verify. Looking forward to getting the Geshelli J2 dac to see if that's a step from this old modded DacMagic. But with the Sony, I have a nice little entry level system I'm not using that I'm going to lend to a friend at work. (DVD plus an Onkyo receiver and a pair of Onix ref one monitors........not great, but decent for a desktop computer audio system)

    I've had this transport for about three years now and it works well and sounds very good. The remote has been terrible though. I had to send one back and the second one isn't much better. I checked the signal coming out of the remote on a scope and the bit stream is erratic. The buttons to control tracks seems to be okay but the transport itself control is poor.
    Too bad to blemish this design with a faulty remote.

    OMG. Insanely good for the money. Has it all. PRAT, liquidity, soundstage It draws you into the music. Will say I hated at first, because it doesn't seem to work well with optical. But once I got an entry level Audioquest co-axial....all is well. My limit is my ancient DACs. Have a Geshelli J2 order. Will be able to use my Stan Warren linear PS. BTW: beautiful bit of kit. Very high quality enclosure.

      Been running mine for a few weeks now with a smsl m400 dac . It seems to be getting better lol . I use coaxial output always with a 100 pound chord clearway cable . I always listen with the display off also .

    • @joseph-ow1hf
      @joseph-ow1hf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itsmorphed6416 I didn't know you could turn off the display. but then again, I've not bought batteries for the remote, as I'm using this as my computer audio, and the 6000 is right in front of me. BTW The Stan Warren PS blew out the board on the Geshellit, so it's off to the factory for repair. Using my modded DacMagic, which actually sounds fine.....just want to try something more modern to hear if better. (I will be buying a PineTree linear PS for the Geshelli, as I hate those switching wall warts, they through noise into the system IMO.)
      Oh....I am using one of Stan Warrens power chords on the 6000. I think an upgraded cable has a slight improvement in transparency due to the twisted wire design be able to better act as a noise filter. I think with all audio cables the geometry is as important or maybe more so in being able to filter noise, as a straight piece of wire wants to act like an antenna.

      The combination is a bit underwhelming. Streaming is superior to 6000cdt with the nd5xs2. I’m considering 3 options now. A better transport, an additional DAC or a better cd player. Not sure what it will be. Think I go for a better cd player. Atoll, Rega or maybe even the new TEAC. Cd should outperform streaming some people are telling, but at what costs?

    Hi Matt Thanks for the great review and the time you put into producing it. its very helpful along with all the others I could find. To the point I forgot that I had all of my CDs in storage for years and found them a day ago and figured I should try them again since I seem to have been a very happy digital streamer until Friday night. Currently I use Roon with Qubuz/Tidal ->Lumin-D2 streamer->Holoaudio May KTE DAC->Michi P5 V2 Pre->Michi S5 Amp>Focal Sopra 3 speakers and 2 Rel S/812 subs all connected with Cards Clear. Of course full room treatment and proper power are in there. I find my system quite resolving, immersive and palpable I listen to the music for hours each day, really my best rig to date though I spent a bunch more the last time I got into this sport😊. Anyway, I went to Walmart and picked up a cheap DVD/CD player

    • @MattCoykendall1
      @MattCoykendall1  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 6000cdt is truly a bargain, I think it will fit right in and likely scale well with many of your high end pieces. How do you like the Michi gear? Those have always been attractive options.

    • @stes0mmm
      @stes0mmm ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattCoykendall1 I think the Michi line from Rotel is very high quality in every way, from build quality which is massive and legitimately substantial, to its top of the line sound reproduction. The S5 really drives the Sopras without ever showing stress, even when pushed hard, and the Sopras can be demanding as they do go below 4 ohms. The sound from top to bottom seems naturally authentic without any noticeable interpretation. The amp is fully balanced, which I have always thought is the best topology. I would have to go double/triple up in the food chain to get the last few percent. The P5 is really quite a bargain for the price considering the feature set and sound. I have the V2, which came out a few months ago with the whole DAC section upgraded. I do not use the DAC, but it sounds fantastic, and I could be quite happy with using all its features it if I did not have an affinity for Ladder vs. Delta Sigma DAC hence the May KTE. Here again, I feel the P5 is rather neutral and presents what it is fed without interpretation from top to bottom. The only drawback is that it is not fully balanced, so I do lose out on a fully balanced signal chain from my fully balanced DAC. Next year I will look at a fully balanced Preamp without a DAC to see how much of a difference there may be. Otherwise, I think for many folks, including myself, I could consider them end-game components in my system and not feel the need to go to the ultra-high-end (Boulder, for example). I have gotten to the point of just listening to music and doing so for hours each day, and my current system is organically and naturally satisfying. The music just appears in my room and presents itself as if there was no system at all.

    • @MattCoykendall1
      @MattCoykendall1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Omnia looks like a really good all in one unit, it has a great DAC inside too. The person who may choose to go with the 6000a and 6000cdt separately may go this route because they want the flexibility in their setup as the 6000cdt scales well with high end DAC‘s. The separates offers more opportunity to mix and match your gear to your preference.
