paul austin: Spoken like a typically stupid Yank. A clutch job on a Cortina, be it a Mk1/2/3/4 or 5 is a couple of hours work with a pair of ramps/axle stands a basic tool kit and somewhere flat so you can lie under the car. I did my 2.0 GT Mk3 back in the mid 80's when I was 20, out in the street. Took me about 2 or 3 hours and I was back on the road driving it again that night.
Thanks from the U.S. Not too many Cortinas over here, but I had a '66 Lotus Cortina back in the day....absolutely 💘 LOVE the cars, and I'd love to have another. Thanks for the video! ✌😁
I'm actually looking to move to the US from Australia. Really want to bring my TE V8 Cortina Ghia with me, just don't know if a right hand drive car can be registered in the US??? I know left hand drive Mk 1 and 2 Cortinas were sold in the US, and read somewhere Mk 3's were sold in Canada, do you know if there are any Mk 4 or 5's in the US?
@@ForwaedCommand Hi Tim...I really don't think having Right Hand drive is going to be an issue for registration. Your choice of where to live (which state) is more of an issue. For example, California is probably the worst state to register a car from overseas, and every state has their own mandates as far as emissions and safety equipment. Some (but not all) require a state police inspection before you can register a vehicle.(any vehicle) So depending on what state you are thinking of moving to, check with their Secretary of State. Thats the department that registers vehicles and issues license plates for vehicles. Hope this helps a little. I have never seen any Cortina newer than mk.3, but I am in Michigan, so some may exist out west in the warmer, sunnier, and dryer climates. I live in whats known as the "rust belt" where they use salt on the roads in winter, and cars don't last. Good Luck!
Wow! This sure brought back memories. In 1969, my next door neighbor sold me his 1961 Ford Anglia, which he had modified with a downdraft weber carburetor and "headers" and a "glass pack" exhaust which came out under the (left hand) driver's door. That car was such a blast. I sold it in 1971 and bought a 1968 Cortina GT and had it modified at Robert Winkelmann Racing in Sausalito, CA. 40 DCOE side-draft Weber carburetors, longer duration camshaft, headers and a lowered and stiffened suspension with five and half inch rims. I also had a steel plate sump shield installed as I thought I might do off-road rallies but never did do them. In 1972, I bought a 1965 Lotus Cortina with right hand drive and had both cars for about a year. The downside to that car was that it had sat in a garage for five years and the head gasket had corroded and cracked the head. The person I bought it from had installed a new head with twin Solex's, so it didn't have the same power as the Weber carburetors. The Lotus Cortina was such a kick but being a 20 year-old college student, I couldn't keep both and sold the Lotus for exactly what I paid for it. The fellow I sold it to then had the original rear axle go out (typical for that year) and lost all compression, so it needed a ring and valve job and he got a new head with the side draft Weber carburetors. I finally sold the Cortina GT in 1977 as it was starting to show its age. It's amazing to see enthusiasts keeping the Cortina craze alive after all these years.
Always loved the Mk 2 cortinas I had a two door with a 1300motor. Then I bought a MK 3 in 1974. Here in Aus they were known as a TC and about the bog standard engine was the 2 litre. But Ford introduced two 6 cylinder engines from the Ford Falcon, a 200 and 250 cubic inch straight 6 The 250 was pure beast
Wow - so many Cortinas in one place from mark 1 to 4. Shame so many have been modified heavily to the point of being unrecognisable. Shame about all that tyre burning, revving and dangerous pulling out from a blind spot. Surprised there were no accidents. But like I said - wow - so many Cortinas in once place.
Yes lots of rolling about in the muck when you were 20 in the eighties, to keep them going so you could go to work the next day to pay for your clutch etc, happy days?
When I was an apprentice mechanic my saturday / sunday job was doing road side mechanics with clutches a speciality long before Mr fucking clutch was ever heard of, Mk2's mk3's, escorts all taken care ofoh the 70's such a wonderful era
I’ve had a few of these and Anglias and they were great fun. Back in the day. Simple to repair and upgrade. They’re slow by today’s standards and interiors are really basic, even the 1600E. A cheap classic to own
loved my first car cortina mkll 1600e in white with wood trim needs a bigger more powerful engine though, V8 would be nice. I wonder if my old car survived
I had a Mk 5 Cortina Ghia 20 in Caspian Blue . l later sold it to raise a deposit on a flat for my girlfriend and me. 30 yrs on I still have the memories, the photos and the same beautiful girl.
My first car was a mk4 1.6L pov' spec in bronze but really it looked brown. It's my fave car that I've owned. But my Gandad had a mk3 2.0 Ghia and it was just the best looking car ever. Prettier than an e-type jag for my money.
Mr Hollywood , never saw an Rs2000 there yesterday , saw a flat front escort tho . Must admit , apart from the tina's , the nicest thing there was the 105E over the road , as all the best fords were for the 60's imho .
Mark Puddifoot did Ari Vatanen win the world rally championship in a 60's ford ,did Barry Lee drive a mk1 cortina when he won all the hot rod world championships .. there's a reason old escorts are so popular and expensive imo.. I like a mk1 cortina myself having owned one but can't beat a rs 2 faaaaasand
hey i just read in the papers that in the uk petrol will be a thing of the past in 12 years time, we will all be driving electric, does that mean all these nice vehicles will be scrapped, just a question, or could you folk convert them to electric, maybee have a big scalecxtric track outside the ace cafe, in finland we dont have much of this
I don't like modified cars. Stay stock! Upgrading a car within the stock range is OK with me so a Cortina rebuilt into a 1600E of Lotus is great but going outside of that results in freaks.
What makes me laugh, is the fact that once they spin their wheels in only first gear, they then cant carry it on, dip your clutch and ride the clutch, drop it into second and boom your getting that second gear boost, much more impressive.
I guess a clutch job ain't too expensive in the UK.
Most people who own classics cars fix them by themselfs so it dont cost that much.

paul austin “Wanker!”, hahaha. I love that! 🤑

Great video. All Cortina Mk's. Great sound Mk I Lotus Cortina.
Beautiful 1600E in Silver Fox at 2.40, brought back lovely memories of my dads car.
Some of the Cortina Mark 3 are looking pretty good
Turnout was crazy! Lots of Cortina's there that I haven't seen before, hopefully that meant a few more are back on the road
Had three gotinas 20+ years ago (NZ) 2 mk 2's and 1 mk 4. Would love another modified MK2.

My first car was a black TE Cortina 4 speed manual with a 250 cross flow. That thing was a rocket.
Love these classics bring back memories of my first car mk1 escort back in jamaica
Awesome video. I want to know the colour of the one at 1:24. Love that grey
I wish I still had my Ford Escort 1.3L mk2 1980V in Roman Bronze Metallic. I enjoyed seeing all the Cortina's brings back memories.
Talking of the Chelsea Cruise...did that jacked-up black Mk3 at 7.45 arrive at the Ace by time tunnel?
You've got to love a mk2 in silver Fox paint. Never seen so many mk5 estates all very lush

Are all these cars lowered? It's too bad.
I like the Ford sport 1600 coupe 2 doors loads of fun my daughter giggles
Shades of Kings Road and Chelsea cruises at the end of the 70's. I bet many of those Cortina owners were there, back in the day.
I’ve had a few of these and Anglias and they were great fun. Back in the day. Simple to repair and upgrade. They’re slow by today’s standards and interiors are really basic, even the 1600E. A cheap classic to own
that mauve colour cortina at 5.31 sounds awesome :)

Beautiful cortina's lotus starts and other cortina start 👍🏻💪🏻
My first car, a beat up & badly trashed '68 Cortina Deluxe with 92,000 miles. Wish it was at least a GT. Didn't matter, it was mine. Good little car
6.48 Minion Yellow - another great colour for a coke bottle Cortina! 😀 #ILoveMk3Cortinas
my dad had a beige mk5 estate when I was young, loved that car
Awesome :) Not many of them about nowadays most fell victim to banger racing or rot!
Mk1Kieran I used to goto Racewall Cowdenbeath to see the Stock Cars. They used a lot of Escort mk2s for stock cars as well.
1:12 what car?
The grey one? It's Ford Cortina Mark II
My dad had a Mk2 Lotus & a Mk 2 Savage, Happy days!!
How do we find out the next cortina meet?
Nice cars but a shame the drivers of the four Mk2s at the beginning of the vid have not learnt how to drive them properly.
Wankers really
I think it’s cool
I do guess I’m Australian and we like skids
Boy racers... :( Don't have a clue how to treat an old lady.

Sod the tyres and clutches - good Old Ford naughty boy stuff! pity about the road humps!
My faves were the following
Mark 1 GT
Mark 2 GT
Mark 3 2000E
Mark 4 Ghia
How common mk1 mk2 has some class tho in a kind of retro way
Have most of these got the 2L pinto motor
Yes the majority have, it's a common swap in Cortinas.
Remember all Cortinas even Lotus 1 all good man...never owned myself but buddies did ...lol
I love Cortinas, and still have my TE V8 Corty 30 years later, but some of those attempts at burnouts in this video are plain embarrassing

Great cars but you can see even the upgraded ones aren't built for speed
most of those MK3s are in the same condition as they were back 30 years ago ( crap!)
Wayyyy to many comments from law abiding citizens..come to sunny South Africa. .I haven't seen a traffic smurf in over a week
