I I just stayed here! I came across this video searching"meditation Buddhism Japan" He was my favorite monk and gave me some motivation to try meditation in my daily life! I can't believe he is youtube famous! I wish I had been able to talk with the monks about their lives and having to work as a tour guide/performer while also living genuinely by their faith. Koyasan was a very cool experience and much less "temple amusement park " than I expected. I believe the monks truly believe in their lifestyle and are really good at ignoring tourist gawking as they worship. But it is still an economy fueled by tourism where part of the monks responsibilities include playing tour guide. What I think everyone needs to know is that all the monks are hot. It's not a joke. All are 25-40, perfectly built with flawless skin and a cool, calm, collected attitude.
I stayed here last weekend and it was awesome! The night time cemetery tour from Nobu-san who is a monk at this temple was the absolute highlight. I hope more people are able to visit soon.

Being Buddhist I wanted to explain the truth about why we do not use onion or garlic. The above is ment to have sexual enhancement qualities and as Sangha (Buddhist monks and Nuns) this is strickly forbiden. It is simply amazing how the flavours in Buddhist cusine has proven that two very popular ingredients used in most cusines is just not required Imagine from Korea Kim chi For Buddhists this is a no no or is it? Normally garlic and onion is used to enhance the flavour of the Kim chi but I have eaten Kim chi made completely without garlic or onion and the taste is almost the same. We were inspired by watching this video last year to stay and have to say our favourite meal in the whole of Japan was the Shojin Ryori. It was so tasty and so well presented at the same time. It was the only place we eat Shojin Ryori in Japan, but was totally worth the trip to Koyasan to experience that cuisine as well as the beauty and cultural significance of the area.
Just finished watching NHK World short film program starred by Shizuka and a beautiful lady on wheelchair. Shizuka, she's never loosen her dazzling smile and prettiness!

Wakayama Prefecture in Japan wants people from overseas to come visit its vegan food. Wakayama prefecture has a lot of nature. It is an important place in Japanese history. Umeboshi and Kukai are famous.
I could eat vegan meals. No problem. But I think I would have withdrawals with no TV or Internet. I'm not even sure they allow cellphones. Wow, what a sad reflection of my life.
You would be surprised, many monks have amazing cool hobbies like riding motorbikes, playing musical instruments, photography or manga. And most of the ones we met had phones and even instagram accounts :P
If buddha lived like that during his time he would have died of hunger while traveling through forests and barren lands.Vegetarianism is later addition it is not compulsory thing.
I woud starve as I don't class veggies as food, No idea why they don't eat a proper human diet of meat, we been carnivore for millions of years since leaving the trees, long before someone said don't eat meat, how ridiculous.

I went to Koyasan in 2014, and it was definitely one of my all time favorite places to visit in the whole world! I remember the cemetery and forest being massive, the video really can’t do it justice. I highly encourage any visitors to really explore Koyasan!
This is my idea of heaven. The tranquil gardens amazing Japanese traditions and next level vegan food. Oh my goodness. Vegan food doesn’t lack flavour 🙄

Thank you Shizuka for the great insight. I just never knew temple stay was soooo expensive? Unless I am looking at the wrong place. But it was sooo expensive.
We stayed in one of the rooms without a private bath for $330 USD/night (May 2023). The whole town is crazy expensive. I first accidentally booked a room with bathroom that was $650/night and changed. I would love to find a similar cultural experience for a more reasonable price

If they are offered or donated. Monks are prohibited to have meat solely. Killing or encouraging killing animal for food is prohibited for monks.
