    The first entry in the Tour & Drive series in a long time!
    Needed a few weeks' break to recuperate and get my groove back.
    Check it out. It's a long one but covers the car very well. There's a few fun pulls in the car and a flyby if you stick it out to the end!

    Have a 2005 S500. Love it but put alot of $$$ when things break. Engine and transmission are bullet proof! Everything else eventually breaks. Excellent review of a S600 V12. Power is awesome! I would love to experience that raw power. But don't want the headaches of repairs for that beast!

      He’s exactly right about the S500 V8. They’re simple, without too many complicated devices on the engine itself. The electronics are all 90s based for engine management, and the transmission is built for much more power (like the V12 turbo) so there’s no chance of wearing it out quickly. They’re both very hard items to break, even in this generation of car with all its quirks and other potential problems. S500s can also be had without air or hydraulic suspension, so that takes out another element of their unreliability. The hydraulic suspension in my car from the video failed within 18 months of being completely rebuilt from the ground up with all new Mercedes parts. So… take that for what it’s worth.

    FYI - the Check Engine lamp as you likely know is an emission-related malfunction. It likely is the secondary AIR pump, or a cylinder misfire which will clog a converter on the bank it is occurring. A converter is not inexpensive so scan ME 2.7.1 with XENTRY and see what the fault is. Change the 24 plugs if you don’t know if they were changed recently. It is a DYI - just hang the intercoolers out of the way and you don’t have to remove them. If you don’t have a XENTRY install on a laptop, install it and get a SDConnect or Part D MUX (a J2534 will also work in most cases) to clear and the faults, monitor data in real time, etc.
    The M275 engine has no inherent weaknesses so the mileage is not an issue- as you likely know the coil packs and voltage transformer are problematic occasionally. Making sure the plugs are changed and use iridium NGK plugs will extend the life of the ignition system.
    The ME 2.7.1 usually need to be flashed on the bench, but can be read by OBD2.
    I have had a W221 S600 since ~2012 and also a V220 S55 AMG Kompressor with 274k and it is my daily driver. The 220 chassis is a very comfortable and smooth ride! Enjoy it, and be very careful if you turn on Dynometer mode or disable ESP! Here is mine with no tune (and stock VMAX). th-cam.com/video/5zQ5knHLGCk/w-d-xo.html

    Great review.
    DOOR KEY LOCK, Lubricate and use
    When you have time suggest you lubricating your door key lock and then try using your physical key to unlock drivers door.
    I had flat batteries and mine seemed frozen so I called for roadside assistance and he lubricated it and used more force than I felt comfortable with.
    He said most locks are frozen because they never get used. So when you need to get in the car it seems impossible

    Sport and Comfort (or Standard and Winter) modes don't really seem to affect traction when taking off on snow in my experience.
    I have an older CLK 240 and i just keep it in standard mode always, only time winter mode seemed to help traction was last summer when i had to reverse up a gravel road that was pretty steep.

    Great review Cody, i wanted to add that that bottom radiator is actually the heat exchanger for the intercooler. Also if you put a good scanner on the car ALOTT of the times there is a stored code for TOO HIGH INTAKE AIR TEMPS, this could be stored or current either way if you clear it you will gain like 20% power. i found this out yesterday did mine and OH MY GOD. i thought it was fast before. anyways something to check out.
    I just bought my First V12 a month ago. 2005 S600 white with 104K, check it out.

    Does anyone have an experience or advice about the s320 cdi. Want it as a daily driver. They're cheap in the UK!

    • @yodacode43
      @yodacode43  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So while I’ve never seen one as they didn’t come to the US, I do know that engine is very stout. Basically bulletproof. Then the car is also much simpler. Less options, fixed standard suspension I believe. So really it’s a matter of being sure all the electronics work and that there isn’t any corrosion. Take that advice as you will, but I’d drive a diesel S class any day! I’ve owned two older W126 cars!

    • @ViolentTacticsNP
      @ViolentTacticsNP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yodacode43 thanks for your reply. Most older cars suffer from corrosion in the UK due to salt/grit in winter months. I would love to get a petrol however, petrol is now ranging from $2-$2.50per litre in the UK. Makes it very hard to have something with a big engine as a daily driver. We also live in an uncertain time being inbetween a timeframe where petrol and diesel cars will soon no longer be on sale come 2030.

    • @yodacode43
      @yodacode43  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tell me about it. Salt/brine mixture on the roads here in Michigan is the absolute killer of vehicles. More so in Michigan than other states.
      I fully understand that the petrol prices are insane in the UK! We thought it was bad here, but California is paying twice what Michigan is, and you’re likely paying nearly twice that! You’re something on the equivalent of $11.50/gallon and we are $3.40/gallon in Michigan.

    So what was the CEL and how has the car been?

    • @yodacode43
      @yodacode43  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The CEL at the time was a multiple misfire for one coil pack bank of the engine.
      For 5 months the car was flawless. I’ve had some costly issues in the last month and I’ve actually got the car up for sale as I cannot deal with them myself.

    • @kevin9c1

      @@yodacode43 Curious what those issues are. Do you do any work yourself?

    • @yodacode43
      @yodacode43  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hydraulic suspension failed due to a line rupture. The line repair and fluid replacement and relearning/bleeding of the suspension would’ve been $3500 or so, so I changed to springs and struts for $1275 instead. Car handles and rides great.
      I changed a blower motor and resistor last week for $135.
      The power steering pump completely gave out this week, and that’s shared with the hydraulic suspension pump. Ran dry on fluid and killed the bearing. Still running and driving but leaks profusely. Pump is about $1800 plus labor (which is astronomical).
