This is the best workflow breakdown of a brew day I've seen. Great explainer. A full system like this has been on my wishlist for a long time. I'd love to see a similar video covering your fermenting vessels.
Loved the video. Very informative. I am moving to a clawhammer from a mash and boil this was helpful. Any links for the quick disconnect and hoses you use for the water portion of the chiller?
Great video that actually shows the systems. All the other homebrew channels are mostly just video of the bro talking to the camera... nice work on this. Thanks
I received the Clawhammer 'Starter' 10 gal system that came with the kettle, brew basket and some fittings. It does not come with the heating element etc. The basket sits perfectly in the kettle and has a large volume. However the SS kettle itself seems a little on the flimsy side. Certainly not up to a Blichmann kettle or even an SS Brewtech kettle both of which I have. That being said, I tested after assembling with water and everything was leak free and seemed to work as advertised. The vol gal markings on the inside of the kettle are a little on the light side to read when liquid is in the kettle but not a big issue. All in all not bad for the cost especially if you are downsizing and already have pumps and chillers etc.
So after watching about 70 of your 99 beer videos, I decided that i was going to upgrade from my 5 gallon system to 10 gallon and ended up getting the Clawhammer supply 20g starter kit. I love it, the quality is awesome! I haven't decided what to brew first with it yet, so I am open to ideas!
I really want the claw hammer. I'm thinking about getting kegs to ferment in and doing a closed transfer to another keg. I can't find many videos on this idea
Question: While waiting for the wort to come to a boil, could you dump and rinse out the grain basket and use that for a hop spider without hop utilization taking a hit?
Such an interesting idea! Clawhammer tell me the mesh in the grain basket is too tight and the hops will block it up. They recommend using hop bags if utilization is a concern.
Thanks for the video! I made my own system that was inspired by Clawhammer system. Shipping the whole system from US to EU is quite expensive (+ customs and VAT). It has 43L pot (a bit over 11 gallons) and 2500W heating element. It works great and last time i had almost 70% brewhouse efficiency (69.4%). I love the design of the system and kinda feel bad for "copying" it, i'll buy the original system one day :D
So you let the PBW just sit overnight and then rinse the next day, you don't have issues with anything getting left behind? And what concentration are you doing for the PBW soak?
Great video! The Clawhammer all in one systems do look really good. Out of interest, now that you're not doing the brewing challenge, how much off camera brewing do you do to top up your supplies and for fun etc?
I’m still doing brew day vids every two weeks so no off camera brewing. At this point it would be really odd (and probably kinda fun) to just brew and not turn on a camera.
Hi, thanx for the video. I really enjoyed every single one of them since I started homebrewing last years August. Maybe I am wrong, but i think u mixed up the inlet and the outlet at the pump (4:17), I have a complete different system since clawhammer is not available/suitable in Germany, but it happens to be, that I have the same type of pump built in, and the pump's inlet is at the front and the outlet is at the top...
Did you see a huge increase in heat time between the 10gallon and 20gallon 220 systems? I plan to buy one of these as my next system and almost want to jump to the 20 gallon system, but worried the extra water will still take forever to heat up on brew day even with the upgrade to 220
Have you had a chance to brew on the Spike Solo system yet? I know a few other TH-cam channels have done so during the beta test phase, before product release, but it's been a while since that time. It would be pretty cool to get a current side-by-side comparison video of various all-in-one systems. 👍
Great video Martin, you have made some great beers🍺 from around the world 🌍 in your 99 beers challenge 👌. I'm looking to upgrade my brewing system and looking at the new Grainfather G40 . What's it like brewing with a exposed element's?
I’ve done 8 batches on my CH 120v and I’ve had no problems. Unfortunately the heating times take a little extra time. I plan to upgrade to the 240v controller and element in the near future tho. That’s the best thing about it, it’s modular so you can change it up if you want. Cheers 🍻
I use a 120 element system in my still and that does take some time to heat up also. I have started pre heating my mash in a kettle over propane first, then pour that in the still and let electric take over from there.
It's a great shame that Clawhammer and a number of other US vendors haven't (yet) expanded their products out to other territories. We could do with some competition in the mid- to high-range area for these systems!
Yeah, that’s because they are still waiting for those shipping containers to arrive since Covid messed up the flow of things. Same problem in the UK, preorder and empty promises and a lot of this shiny material that is so badly made and prone to rust, I wouldn’t bother. The West needs to return to high quality domestic production and wean itself off from imported junk.
Because the shipping is outrageous. Also a good chance the system could be damaged shipping it overseas. The claw hammer system is good but take what you see here and DIY it. Idk any of the systems you have in Europe other than the Braumeister. I have a 20l and I like it but they are way over priced these days.
Hi. good review. the only thing that i don't like of these kind of systems is if we want to sparge to get a better efficiency. no confortable¡ (just my opinion) regards, Diego
Nice video Martin. Thanks. Come on Clawhammer, start selling this kit in the UK so that you can take my money! Martin , do you not have any concerns about getting rid of all your bacteria from your kettle after souring and ruining your next unsoured brew? Oh and I hope your cold has got better! 🤧
I'm in Tasmania Australia, I don't know how you cope with 110V in North America when the rest of the world is on 240V perhaps that's why so many brewing videos on TH-cam in the US use propane instead of electricity, that said I don't think they can really change it now.
I’m in Oz as well and use electric and gas at the same time. Works a treat and no waiting around for ramp ups. One thing about that Clawhammer system, my basket has three fold out hooks that deploy automatically when you lift the full grain basket. Makes life much easier. Great show Martin, thanks!
All US homes have 240V 3 phase going in on the main. Its a simple job to a a 240v breaker and outlet. Most people are afraid or don't have the know how or don't own the property.

Thanks. And good idea.
Outstanding review my man! You made Claw Hammer proud.
Thank you!

Waiting for the clawhammer system to be available in the UK. Would love one of these
This video is so special. So informative
Thank you!
Very useful breakdown! Big fan of the B-roll too! Those Supply PID Boxes look fantastic in terms of what they can control!

Does the 20 gallon size plug go in any outlet? Or is it a special plug?
Ha! I found that pulley at the thrift store. It completes my used kit. I had no Idea what it went to until I watched your vidi.
Thanks for the walkthrough.
Impressive review of the Clawhammer systems!
Thanks!
Excellent video. Exactly what I needed.

That's a very precise brewhouse efficiency :)
@@TheHomebrewChallenge I'm relying on brewfather's calculations, so far it seems to be very reliable! Cheers!
Hello, could you show me the system that you put together ?
Your channel is one of my absolute favorites. I would love to see you compare the Spike Solo with your Clawhammer BIAB system.
Cheers,
Ian
I'm having a problem getting efficiency out of mine, any tips? I'm usually nowhere near where I want to be. Gravity and quantity wise
Thanks Martin. I want one of these at some point. Think they will do any Black Friday deals?
It seems yes they are. Have updated description.
Do you have an equipment profile for the 10 gallon 240v system?
So you let the PBW just sit overnight and then rinse the next day, you don't have issues with anything getting left behind? And what concentration are you doing for the PBW soak?
Great review! I wish we could get this system in the UK!
Hey Martin, when you said you added 16lbs of grain for your Eisbock, is that with the 10gal or 20gal kettle?
Great video! The Clawhammer all in one systems do look really good.

Hello, question if you sparge, woul you use new clean water or you pum and just use your wort ?

how many pounds of grain can you get into the 10 gallon system? thanks.

If you use the 240v 5500watt system, wont you burn the crap out of your brew if it goes full throttle?
The heating element doesn’t touch the mash basket. And for boils I run it around 55% once boil is reached.
Decision number 1 for many people will be budget.

Awesome, enjoy!
I want to brew a non-alcoholic beer. Can I use this system to make my 00 beer?

What pump are you using?
I can't decide on the 10 or the
20ga
What ratio of PBW to water (oz/gallon) do you use for your overnight soak?
I fill the kettle nearly to the top with warm water (so 9 gallons) then add about 2/3 cup of PBW
@@TheHomebrewChallenge Thanks Martin!
That looks to be ~7 oz of PBW, so it's around the 3/4oz : 1gallon ratio. Thank you for the response!
