"You're not that guy ... I am that guy" is definitely up there with the greatest movie quotes ever! Huge payoff after all the buildup with the Amos-Brax relationship and the whole Strickland storyline. Awesome writing!
Yeah, it seems like he is that guy. He probably deserves more than eight listeners on the podcast.
This scene, and just the completion of this arc in general, quickly solidified Amos as my favorite character.
It's so simple and deeply insightful into the characters -- a remarkable culmination of remarkable character arcs.
But the best quote ever is, "I don't hate joy. I hate YOUR joy."
There's such a great rush of emotions in that scene..."You're not that guy" was beautiful and so poignant...but when Amos turned and said "I am that guy," I shouted so loudly that my wife came running. One of the greatest payoff lines in film and TV history, delivered by a character whose complexities make him perpetually interesting.

I love the way they explain the "best friend in the whole world" scene, one of my favorites in the show, because all 3 actors earn it from the moment they appear on screen on day 1. All that comes before it leads up to that moment. When Wes describes putting Mei's hand in Wes's as "trusting Amos with his beating heart outside his body" that encapsulated the whole moment for me: Amos's personal growth, Prax's learning to trust Amos, and Mei's ability to overcome trauma and trust her father and Amos after all she's been through. Just brilliant.
The "opening airlock door" issue was hot over at TEG for awhile, but I think most of us agree, it's from Prax's POV, and he's focused entirely on how to confront his own moral inhibition from killing Strickland vs avenging Mei.

Errinwrights speech to Anna was great but boy did Shawn Doyle nail it.
"I am that guy" might have been a great moment but my favourite quote out of the whole show was Erinwright saying to Anna "He doesn't care about treason: that's just him parroting you because you talked to him last. If he spoke to a janitor, he'd be passionately declaiming about a fucking mop".
Wow the backstory on the Katoa death scene was amazing, along with Wes's take on the "best friend in the whole world" scene.

Big big name, and it translates on screen. Drummer and Ashford's chemistry was the best in the show. At that point, their scenes became the main reason I was looking forward to each episode.

The only movie i can almost completely quote. So many memorable one liners. "We're supposed to be a unit!" "SUCK MY UNIT!!"
"Love means never having to say you're sorry" was also used in the Barbra Streisand/Ryan O'Neal/Peter Bogdanovich film "What's Up, Doc?". After Streisand's character says it, O'Neal's character responds "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard".

The fact that “Get away from her, you bitch” only makes NUMBER FIVE?? Tragedy, yo. And honestly, the enraged hiss the Queen gives after that line is just as badass 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I know, I know, everyone’s sick of hearing about Aliens but it’s all SO DAMN GOOD.
I only learned about this podcast a few months ago and have been slowly making my way through it. Just got to this episode. I am very unhappy about the lack of respect that line got on this list.
It was Wes delivering You're not that guy in a whisper that sets up the fantastic money shot of I am that guy. Great job Wes on acting and great writing Ty!

Cotyar's death was hard, but in addition to that, what was also hard to accept is what happened in between the scenes. We see Cotyar leave the medbay with a gun and helmet, and the next time we see him, he's in the reactor room, clearly infected, with the cracked helmet. There's a whole adventure missing, and I mourn the lack of it :) Maybe a whole (sort of b-grade scifi movie) is skipped there, something like Pandorum could play out (better examples?) between those scenes. Ah well.
You might like the book's version of that whole section then. Without spoiling too much, it gets a bit more Resident Evil than the show.

Also amazing to hear that we got more Ashford because David Strathairn just loved working with the crew. So devastating to see him leave at the end of S4, but having his story in S4 definitely elevated it further, and that chemistry between him and Cara is noticable.

Having read the book several times, the "I am no man" line was _more_ than expected, but the delivery was so great it still sent shivers down my spine when I first saw Return Of The King.

I loved the insight how to make scenes. Especially the Errinwright scene. This is rare and interesting.

What did Amos tell Mai before he went to stop Prax from shooting that scumbag Strickland? "Stay right here"?
I'd say the guy who was in charge of The Work [whom Miller shot] was a scumbag equal to Strickland. OTOH Strickland did work with kids, that two-faced POS. They both deserved what they got.
I'm really glad David Strathairn wanted to come back for Season 4, he and the writing are what make Ashford SUCH a great character. I've loved him for years, he is such a damn good actor.
We eight fans will keep spreading the good word!! Great to be part of such a huge fandom. LOL.

Hey, I discovered this podcast recently. I'm in Sydney, Australia and we are in WEEK 12 COVID LOCKDOWN... and I think it's fair to say that things are getting a little... weird. I have just binged all 33 episodes of this podcast for a start! Anyway if we ever are allowed out of Australia again, I'm keen to get to the Ty BBQ. I can even bring an Aussie specialty BBQ Kangaroo tail. You'll love it!

(Guilty Admission #1 - This makes the 3rd time I've watched the first five seasons. There's just nothing up to this level of quality out there in streaming land, excluding Altered Carbon)
So the bit where you don't hear Amos enter the airlock reminded me a lot of Alien. After Dallas is killed, Ripley goes to MU-TH-UR to get answers. She enters the room and closes the door behind her. As she pounds out commands on the keyboard to try to get access to Special Order 937, Ash shows up right behind her, silently. That was the Amos moment in the airlock.
So Happy the Family is growing. Eight - yeah! Double digits looming up fast everyone!
"this is my best friend in the whole world" made me cry so hard when i watched this episode - one of my favorite moments in the whole series. very exciting to get to see y'all talk about it.
Wes and Cortazar vs Cotyar 😂 I feel you
To be fair, it is rare for Wes to consistently say ANYONE'S name properly on this podcast. He clearly gets it right when he's working though, which baffles me slightly. He can't pronounce most names correctly two times in a row, but his characters can: VERY method!

My favorite movie quote is "If you're going to shoot, shoot, don't talk" Tuco - The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
Season 3, Episode 06 is probably one of my favorite episodes (the "That Guy" episode) of The Expanse. I binge watched all 5 Seasons in Feb/Mar this year, making the comment...what took me so long to catch this series. I've always been a fan of Sci-Fi, continue to be a hardcore Star Trek fan...not a purist of just TOS, but all the series up to present day and all the movies. The entire franchise has always been that possibility in mind for a possible future...until I caught the first 5 Seasons of The Expanse. I was immediately hooked with this series because of the authenticity and likely more realistic possibility that we could foresee as an expanse off world from planet Earth in the future...minus of course, any protomolecule effect. Great Job guys...yes, Wes is "That Guy"!

OMG! I've been waiting for this episode for so long! This is by far my favorite scene of my favorite episode of the whole series so far about the climax of the arc between Amos and Prax! Watching and hearing these two cover this is so amazing! Wes's analogy was so beautiful and perfect. Actually brings tears to my eyes!

On that note about never being able to go home, you mentioned all those people but you don't mention Holden and I find that to be awesome. Because especially into season 5, he is home. It's very interesting how actualized he becomes overseason 4 and into 5.

Of course, like all Expanse fans, I'm hoping you already have your movie deal sewn up for what happens after S6. But movies take much longer to make happen. Unless, maybe, you're planning on doing one a year after S6.
