Hey KAREN, You are on Tow Boat US You Tube Channel. Not the Red Cross channel. Im sure you'd still find something TO BITCH about over there also. (SMH) 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I know our family member that has Tow Boat US was EXTREMELY Happy to see these guy show up and put there 42' Hatarass back in the water. I didn't hear the cost, But its a Insurance company. So im sure there's a probably a Co Pay, LOL. But you have to ask yourself, if this was your baby sitting on the "Hard" and these guys called and said will be out tomorrow at ?? Whats it worth to you to have it Safely and Professional put back in the water?? If Lisa is correct at $14-K, I'd say thats pretty affordable. But I've delt with Heavy Recovery rates with putting Semi Trucks back on the roadway and clean ups after a big truck crash. So these larger numbers are a everyday thing to me. Good Job Guys, And I love the drone footage. It shows Professionalism.
So if you bounce around threw Tow Boat US You Tube channel. You'll see that they have hired multiple different companies. And they have several different size rigs (Barges and cranes) And there surveying each claim to see what rig they need to assign to what claim. And as you probably well know by this time, there pretty busy. However there not taking any short cuts. And each claim has had at least 2 pair of eyes on it (or more). And there's a safety plan along with a plan of action made out long before the rig and crew set foot on the job site to re-float your baby. Im sure they have a Crane/Rig that can pick up 20-K lb vessel. Ive watched these crews salvage (Re-Float) vessels 50x's that amount. The equipment, and crew, and cost just multiples. There's a old saying in the salvage and recovery industry "If you have to ask whats it going to cost,Then you can't afford it to begin with" And this is why you pay that "Tow Boat US" Insurance policy every year. And you ask yourself every year "Do i really need this???" And the answer is, HELL YES. Especially If you live in Hurricane country along the water you sure do. $$$ well spent....
it is a very big mistake to put a hydro crane like that on a barge. the problem is as you lift the load the barge begins to tip and the boom angle changes. it is very easy to dump over one of these cranes when they're on a barge. hopefully they have it chained down with some slack in the chain so they can tell when they're overloaded. once these crane start tipping on a barge you can't drop your load fast enough to stop it.
So if you go and watch more of there videos and others that the owners post. You'll see there's different size barges, some with the spades (like this barge has) And some where they flood the barge and set it firmly on the bottom of the canal and then do there lift and swing. There's another video I recently watched, where they just pick the boat up. And then have the Tug/Bump boats ever so gently ease the barge back away from the hard ground where the vessel was grounded. Then its just a straight down set. Knowing how these guys work (Tow Boat US) They just didn't show up and say "Yea, I think we can handle it" I can promise you, there was a engineer and a crane safety engineer. That meet more than a few times to survey the vessel, And the survey the job. And to confirm what rig they would need to safely perform putting these vessels back in the water. Its not cheap, but this is why you have insurance. And these are not cheap small boats either. There's a old saying, "If you have to ask the price. Then you can't afford it to begin with."

Looks like they have it in the corner of the barge for better reach. Probably have to get into some shallow areas and boats are heavy so you dont want the crane boom stuck out far.
We see that, Thats why you're watching and there DOING. There's several reason why the crane is in that position. First notice the 2 large spades on the opposite sides of the barge. They can also flood individual compartments in these barges to basically put them on the hard bottom, (Go and watch other videos where you see them pumping the barge out and re-floating it) this allows for a more stable lifting platform. I promise you, These guys have done this a million times. And they can practically do it in there sleep. There not just putting anyone in the operators seat and asking him/her "You think you can handle this?? Are you sure you've done this before???"
How did they get that barge through the lock? That was beach and Surfside over yonder. The lock is the only way in. I sure hope they didn't rip up a section on the mangroves to get it in.
I can 100% positively say that LONG before the Barge,Crane, and Crew showed up. This job was surveyed by multiple sources to be safely performed and that the vessel had NO structural damage that would allow it to sink when placed back in the water. Because if there was significant damage to a vessel. These crews have the option to lift the boat off the hard. And place it on a dry barge. And then transport it to a marina that can lift it off, and get it in line for what ever it needs to be repaired. Same goes for the boats that will be deemed a "Complete lose" There not just going to leave them in ppl yards.
Looks pretty sketchy to my eyes.. The down riggers of the barge are on the opposite end that the crane is on.. That crane, with the load suspended on it is a lot of weight... I can see that the end of the barge where the crane is working, is seriously out of level..
Having rented out a barge crane in the past, in my area it needed to be certified by Coast Guard. That means stamped engineering plans submitted and I'm pretty sure the working bow outriggers are way to close to the edge.
Looks like they have it in the corner of the barge for better reach. Probably have to get into some shallow areas and boats are heavy so you dont want the crane boom stuck out far. As for CG Certified, this is Florida after a hurricane, they are getting $hit done. 👍

must suck when u can only use 1 of ur boats after a hurricane. jjust hit a week ago
They are getting paid big dollars to do this job this is in a freebie
Thank goodness someone has a genius idea to get big boats back in water
Hopefully they inspected the sailfish and that is really nice seeing these things being done 👍 thank you for sharing this journey with us
Well done, it must have been tricky to determine the center of balance. Great drone photography too!
Especially being it was an unknown weight until picked and I'm sure it had some water inside rolling around inside also.
Gotta figure out counterweight ability. Likely needs an engineer besides the operator.
Good drone footage... What amazes me is all of those screen structures over the pools seemed never to get damaged by the strong storms in Florida???

That crane will be busy for a while. At least the boat still floats. Others won't be so lucky.
Good thinking! Need a couple dozen along the beaches and marinas to move them off the roads and back into the water
I can only imagine the cost of this !!
14000 to be exact
$14000 ? Crane , Barge and rigging crew ? Did insurance cover it or was this out of pocket ?

If you got the money to Own a yellow fin you got the money to pay for the crane

Where is this?
A lot of the canals aren't wide enough for that barge to maneuver through.
Can that crane handle a 20k lb boat? I’m waiting for TowBoatUS to rescue mine from my neighbors yard.

They used choppers to do this after hurricane bob where I live.
