Winter can be a great time to shoot outside portraits but it can also be cold and grey and dark... Fortunately photographer Gavin Hoey has some great ideas to help you bring winter inside and keep it under your control.
Gavin will take you through his three light set up, step by step. He'll show you why each light matters and how you can use snow confetti to create a photo that's full of winter character.

Whatever Adorama is paying Gavin... its not enough. He's the best!
In my photography career I've been following quite a bunch of guys for tutorils to get me where I am.I've not come across anyone who can beat Gavin with his satisfying-2min tutorials. You're the best.

I thought the box was going to be for catching the fake snow and keeping the studio clean. But here you surprised me. Pretty ingenious way to reuse an empty box.
I really enjoyed this shoot. Once again you have shown how to get a big effect in a small studio space with some well thought out lighting.
Jade was a super model for this shoot too.

Great tut man. keeps me from having to go out in the cold. Don't forget to put some snow on the talents sweater and hat. That little bit of added texture makes a huge difference.

Best part is that I guessed at how to put textured backgrounds in Photoshop and I did it right. And if you think white confetti is bad, I still have a home studio floor covered by colored glittery ones from a new years shoot.
