I lived in some great places and always love the charm you'll find in apartments so not ever thing is cookie cutter! Definitely hard to find a good landlord that takes care of their property too! I used to lease private rentals for a landlord I loved, so I'd rent them out literally within 1 hour of opening the doors because everyone knew the rentals I showed were ON POINT nice!

I love several things about your apartment, the hardwood, the built-in hutch in your dining room that right there on so much storage. I love the fact that you did not show your bedroom you need your own private space. You have a lot of space there for the price point and have washer and dryer in your unit. Omfg I used to live in the exact same unit in 2016/2017 and it was $2100 not including utilities 🧐 That's $500 more 5-6 years ago. I'm not sure how the rent could have dropped to $1600 in 2022. Rent this low for a large 1 bed with in-unit washer/dryer hardwood floors, yard in back, in a trendy neighborhood is not the norm in LA. Just FYI for anyone looking at this video for proof that LA rent can be low like this.
Stunning apt! I love the orange lighting in your bf's office. Re: that brown humidifier/AC thing in the dining room. You can fashion a wood covering with wood pieces/slats, or using peices if wood from a palate (you can often find free palates in the back of stores outside or by the garbage. Turn it into the bar or something similar.

I can tell it's an older apartment which some are really large. Some landlords don't gouge rent and charge enough to cover costs of water, electric property taxes, insurance etc if the mortgage is paid off.
Pro tip for getting rid of water marks. Take a dish towel and put it on top of the mark. Then get an iron and set it to medium high. Iron on top of the dish towel and the water marks start to disappear. Saw this somewhere and tried it out on my parents dinning table and it totally works. Edit: My pro tip is specifically for those white ring water marks☺️

The sink in the laundryroom is required so thag the washer can empty into it.. some places allow there to be no sink, but there is a higher chance of laundry room flooding... so your county must require the sink.. it reduces insurance costs too...
I’m in a similar position. I pay $1700 for a one bedroom in LA and I don’t love it but there’s nothing better for the same price or less so I stay. You’re place is huge though! Loved the tour!
I pay $1,570 in LA. Nice size one bedroom, 2 large closets, parking spot, 1930’s charming building, pretty secure building. Cons are, old building means super loud from street noise, poor insulation, can hear my downstairs neighbor like she’s practically in my apt, no dishwasher, nothing renovated/redone. But for my budget it’s what I can get!

Re: the lower comments, I do pay a steeper price to live in a safer and more residential part of the city, but could totally see myself moving to more of a "developing" neighborhood with a roommate or a partner. QOL and rent are mostly inverse here.
I pay less than $1500 for a 1 bd with a small office in the Highland Park - Eagle Rock area 2 blocks from where the bars, restaurants, stores, bagels and coffee shops. We often walk to go out in town. It's on a fairly quiet street with plenty of trees. I have both a front yard and a huge grass backyard and a garage. It's a duplex so I only have one neighbor that is a close friend. The best part is its rent control. I've been here 5 years and don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

@@amandapluma compared to LA it feels very restrictive because of the high amount of tickets they give out. My friend used to get a ticket every week. I even saw an elderly woman on a wheelchair get a ticket just for crossing the street. Now we have a fly path in our zone it’s so loud! Super noisy area. If I had family in another area I would move. I think people in LA are nicer. Too many grouchy people and Karen’s here, lol.
why were people collecting dishes? because back in the day dinner parties were a huge thing. you had to have plenty of dishes for all your company. big families were also a thing. needed even more dishes for all your kids (especially if they were clutzy and broke them while washing the dishes after dinner) and people tended to cook at home more often. lots and lots of dishes. it was pretty common to get a set on your wedding. or in my family.... you inherited them from grandparents who had passed on. i have my father in law's mother's dishes from when he was a kid (apparently mother in law was given them when his mom and dad passed away. but she didn't like them. kept them boxed up. when father in law passed away she gave all those danged plates, bowls and saucers to my husband.... they're STILL packed away.... i guess my oldest son can have them when he moved out.) they're actually really pretty. way too fancy for my hamfisted hooligans to use on a daily basis. the dishes we use daily are from walmart!! no one gives a damn if they break!

I’m born and raised in Los Angeles and at this price location matters. We have a huge homeless population and parking is scarce. The city isn’t safe, privacy is scarce. Rent control isn’t a thing in most cities.

The old owner paid it off years ago. His daughter took over and gouged rent. Our neighbors pay over $2k for the same space.

@@amandapluma sorry.... I didn't mean to offend. my apartment is actually very similar in here St. Louis. You have to appreciate the grit to live here. Older homes have so much more charm and are quality built. Our apartments are superior to newer construction so don't feel bad at all. ❤
