12K Stack Train, 12 Locomotives

- This clip features two BNSF trains at Park Moabi, CA along BNSF's Seligman Subdivision just east of Needles, CA.
First off, a westbound 12,000' Stack train passes by with two DP remote consists. The entire train is shown.
Next, an eastbound manifest train with 12 locomotives passes through. The first three locomotives are the ones actually powering the train, the rear 9 have been in storage at Barstow, CA and are heading back to Kansas. Whether they will be reactivated or just moving to a new storage location is unknown.
Really, it's more like two trains running nose to tail, with those helper units in the middle. Still way bigger than anything that ever comes past here. I am jealous of all these people with heavy-traffic rail lines near them.
^^^@Kel Harper .. I lived near the rail track's when I was a kid, I used to listen out for the "Big Boy" Freight train around Mid-night hauling freight from my town to Napier and then on to Wellington 500 miles South from my city .. .
The first train (3 up front, 2 middle DP, and 1 pusher DP) must be a yardmaster's nightmare to assemble.

First train: six engine 204 cars. Second train: 12 engines 91 cars, definitely not using all engines. Maybe the first convoy wasn’t using all , six engines..depends on the slopes

I counted 213 on the stacker
If you counted the locomotives. I got 205 cars, plus locomotives. You did note that there were three locos in the middle and one following, right? Plus I think four in the front. Which comes to about the number you give. Locomotives don't count as cars.

Only half (at most) of the locomotives on the second train are pulling. More than six and you break couple knuckles.

QUESTION: WHAT ARE IN THOSE CONTAINERS? ARE THE TOP LAYER CONTAINERS LESS HEAVY THAN THE BOTTOMS?
MANY 2-STORY AMTRAK TRAINS HAVE TIPPED OVER IN RECENT DECADES, ESPECIALLY DURING WINTER WEATHER. IS THIS A CONCERN ON FREIGHT TRAINS? GREAT VIDEO.

Westbound are generally loaded container bound to the LBP, LBT, LBA, LBE or Pier 300/400 but eastbound are empty container.

It think that train was pulling 327 cart so thinking it pulling 13,080,000 to 20,214,000 pound that 6,540 to ,10,107 tons

Probably same of them weren't active, they were shift them for repositioning
Today March 15 2021 5:15 and the one with the 12 locomotives it think pulling 91 more cart so am thinking it round out to about 3,640,000 to 5,642,000 pounds 1,820 to 2,821 tons just asking

Is that length of train typical for a BNSF intermodal?
It's not typical, but that length does run several times per week each way.

Well for BNSF they run 12.000, 14.500, 15.000 and 16.000 ft intermodal train depends.
