Excellent video! Really appreciate it. My mentor, a second generation Straussian, would phrase esoteric reading rather as careful and slow reading, and remark that this practice was propagated by exoteric writing. He would always caution me about my verbage. But, years later and having read more Nietzsche, I think I prefer the terminology of esoteric reading more.

Strauss: Trust me, Bro. It really says [insert bullshit you just made up]. You would know if you were such a big-brainer like me.

I was thinking about this too. I think careful reading is always beneficial, but it seems a little risky to presume many texts have intentionally-developed alternate meanings.

The persecution comes usually from the ten thousand ignoramuses.
Another great work on the level of Maimonides is Alfarabi, in particular his ‘The Attainment of Happiness’ as preparing the way to how to read Plato and Aristotle.

To be real, I personally find it difficult not to take a Straussian reading when it comes to any religion.

Modern philosophy and modern religion were Strauss's targets. It is also difficult to really think of Strauss as an atheist. Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, Dawkins were/are atheists. One can hardly see Strauss this way.

speaking of esoteric writings, do you feel that Dugin writes esoterically?

Totally! The guy has various kinds of writing, and the dualism proposed between "west x the rest" is richly symbolized.

This is not Straussian writing, but a poem, id est, writing how and what is true, beautiful, good, righteous and reasonable:
    I burned the book,
    L'Encyclopedie,
    praying Rosaries onto it,
    invoking Archangel Michael onto it,
crushing its evil with Christ's raudsaappaat,
I prayed even when it's dark pages rose, danced,
    reached up in my chimney,
towards the lilies of the nightly sky.
    Farewell, farewell, all the souls so long chained on the lines and pages of L'Index;
    Goodnight sweet souls, goodnight, goodnight,
Now, you are bound into the blood of my beloved,
    freed from the evil one,
    and Commanded for Heaven.

So an atheist German Strauss "outread" all the rabbis of the last 800 years?

Writing between the lines is a synonym for not writing a thing. The “weak and the botched” need justification for their action from Plato, from Maimonides, from Christ. They’ll “read between the lines” when the need to. The strong don’t care. They will see what is David clinically. Or they reject what does not suit them arbitrarily. They take what they can use to develop themselves. They will never justify themselves through “reading between the lines.” They would rather reject the authority of the author. Strauss I was merely the prejudice of the intelligentsia, a senseless, despicable class. The butt of a bad joke.

Straussian writing is epitome of false witness, and in polar opposition of true poetry, truth, and beauty. Pthyi.
