Can LLMs Clarify the Concept of God?
"God as law, awe and fortune...
LLM analysis reveals that the concept of God is well-defined in semantic space by this three-word combination. It provides a closer match than, for example, Lord, Yahweh and Elohim."
That's what Jordan Peterson posted today, referring to research by Victor Swift at www.collectivelabs.ai/semantic-core-clarification
In this video, I walk through the claims of the paper to see whether they deliver on the promise of clarifying our concept of God.
Why would we prefer the LLM to other ways of learning about God, like through the study of theology, mysticism, and philosophy? Is the LLM uniquely insightful?
Enjoy!

My Three Pillars of Sense-Making
มุมมอง 3.4K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video, I explain why I use philosophy, politics, and mysticism to make sense of the world. What are they and how do they differ? Why do we need all three? What's the connection? It's the approach I use on this channel and in my online courses at MillermanSchool.com. You'll also see it reflected in my Heidegger book and, to a slightly lesser extent, my Dugin book. What's up with the "everyone I don't like is Hitler" phenomenon? It's strange but not incomprehensible. Post-war liberal zealotry (combined with leftist antifascism) coded a lot of things as "far-right" and made them taboo, including some important things that we need in order to understand political and human life well. That's the argument of this video. Brought to you by MillermanSchool.com. ...

well hello there! just wanted to express my thanks for sharing and exploring dugin and his theories. as german card carrying commie i've lived through the left (yet again) being undermined by social engineering and infights. now its being woke which isn't marxist at all and speaking and arguing with my comrades i couldn't find a single clue for having gender ideology or abandoning your nation for the sake of multiculturalism... so I've been branded as right-wing and somehow still searching for a theory that'll incorporate what we've learned from the past political theories. thus stumbled over dugin in nazbol. context and really being inspired and uplifted by his work. so again thanks a lot for doing this! all the best from germany!

Fascists and Communists are bed buddies against Capitalism and Republic. No one around US today is more fascists than the groups who most align with “Antifa” and their ilk.

The thing is -- Nazism is not politically right, but left. The rights of individuals and freedom *from* government is politically Right; the dominance of and enslavement *to* government is politically Left. Fascism is authoritarian. To which political ideology is authoritarianism more easily aligned, those who want freedom *from* government, or those want enslavement *to* government? The link of fascism to the Right is due the endless repetition of lies by a Leftist revisionism via their incessant redefinition of words and rewriting of history. As far as more government goes, George Orwell had the perfect description of what Leftist ideology brings in his novel "1984" -- "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stomping on a human face forever."

Sure I agree that reading and considering Plato and Heidegger makes absolut sense. But still this video sends a very wrong message. One could with exactly the same right argue that every movement, suggestion or political initiative that is aimed on reducing social injustice, protection of nature, which is progressive or based on science is called communism. Which is exactly the same BS. The problem in our societies is not that the left calls the right names or vice versa. The problem is that discussions are not based on facts and thought any more and that people flee into tribalism, only because the world becomes more and more complex. This video is not helpful because the conclusion is that 'they' (the left) are against 'us' (his tribe). Supporting tribalism helps no one. What we need is more discussion accross ideological borders, acceptance of facts and respect for all human beings, even if they disagree.

Fascism is an actual political ideology. Roger Griffin defined it most succinctly as Palingenetic Ultranationalism -- an extreme emphasis on national identity bound up with the idea of a rebirth from national decline, led by its "chosen people". If that doesn't sound EXACTLY like MAGA to you, you're trying not to see it. "America First" was the slogan of the American Nazi Party in the first half of the Twentieth Cenrury. This is not coincidental.

    • @Historia.Magistra.Vitae.
      @Historia.Magistra.Vitae. 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

So called "Palingenetic Ultranationalism" is not sufficient, since it is still too vague and also would include Stalinism, Maonism, modern day China and North Korea and other various socialist ideologies as well. Fascism was more specific than that. It was a totalitarian far-left, socialist 3rd position ideology based on National Syndicalism which they adapted from Georges Sorel. It rejected individualism, capitalism, liberalism/democracy, and marxism. The means of production was organized by national worker syndicals (i.e. trade unions), and the guiding philosophy of the state was Actual Idealism. Fascism was an outgrowth of Sorellian Syndicalism, which itself was an outgrowth from Marxist socialism. The idea was that society would be consolidated (i.e., incorporated) into syndicates (in the Italian context, fascio/fasci) which would be regulated by and serve as organs for the state, or "embody" the state (corpus = body). The purpose was the centralization and synchronization of society under the state, as an end unto itself. To quote Mussolini's infamous aphorism: "All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state." As created by Mussolini and Giovanni Gentile, Fascism comes from a belief that the "Stateless and Classless society" Communism calls for after its dictatorship cannot achieve Socialism, and that only the State can properly organize a Socialist Society. It cared about unity in a strong central government with society being brought together by syndicalist organizations obedient to the State. Fascism has nothing to do with MAGA or any modern day political movement in America.

What I'm referring to is a neo fascism, here are the pillars of fascism being adopted by Corporatocracy. A ruling party exercises absolute control over all aspects of life, military power and aggressive expansionism, control or regulate the economy, media, education, and other aspects of society to align them with its ideological goals. Opposition, whether political, intellectual, or cultural, is aggressively suppressed.

Since the leftists are trying to bring down the Western Civilization, I don't think they are too worried about throwing out Western philosophers or overreaching. You seem to have a fundamental underlying assumption that leftists are acting in good faith. They are not interested in a philosophical discussion, they are only interested in amassing power and shutting down all dissent. This comes as illegitamate reactionary nonsense. People labeling the reading Plato, Aristotle and Nietchze as facist behavior? The very foundations of western philosophy? Those things are just not true at all. Please take a moment and consider the foundation and validity of your views. Reactionary thought is not good for any discourse.

Thank you Michael, I have read Heidegger's Being and Time, and his short pieces on Technology and Art and etc, and though I have gotten a lot from them, your emphasis on the existential necessity of our being transformed in relation to being as the key to understanding philosophy at all is really eye opening. This notion that self transcendence as part and parcel of what it means to be human is also a crucial element in the yoga and shamanic traditions, and in Christian ideas like repentance and redemption. Dr. John Vervaeke of U. Toronto's cognitive psych department has also worked hard to foreground this aspect of being human as something that we have forgotten (for many reasons) with the result being a certain existential alienation, loss of meaning and the sense of agency for modern man. So I really appreciate this emphasis. Telling friends about the channel - - Dugin is a real trip. Thanks for that too.

Normal in America typically means, "mediocre by modern cosmopolitan standards." Fascism for the upper middle classes is having to put up with a stagnant social economy where the literacy rate is 86% (roughly-- the same as Cambodia) and most adults haven't attended meaningful higher education. The, "saving grace" was that the, "froth" of the social economy use to control institutions and the greater discourse- tl;dr-- Normal shit is wack and we don't want it. Calling it, "Nazism" just spares us having to say, "my disappointment with a culture that doesn't emphasize the pursuit of beauty, knowledge, or wisdom in a concrete way." Millions of young men are sad because they won't grow up to be Fox McCloud and as a result are, "rejecting modernity" (as they see it.) I'd call all of this pathetic but that would be a slight against pathos.
