- The purpose of the stamping (duo tze) is to sink down the qi, awaken the yi (mind), build the foundation, and issue power. To build a strong enough foundation so that the student can progress to the next level, the stamping trains the muscles, especially the minor muscle groups. The major muscles are worked to the point that they must give up and thus force the minor muscle groups to take over. Slapping and grinding is the first of eight stampings in baji quan, focusing on nian bu training, the foot concussively slapping the ground and instantly using the spine and whole body to turn. - Shifu Adam Hsu
I'm glad to have come across your channel, I used to practice Baji Pigua years ago and have been wanting to get back into it but I couldnt remember all the forms because of how long it's been. Great uploads!
I think I remember you
🙂🌎✨🍜
Excellent in that you are practicing a skill that keeps the body young!
Nice footwork and momentum my friend. Very cool. 😇🌎✨✨
nice to see you still grinding away, Dan - though know it probably wasn't your favourite
Nice! I love Tai Chi. Have you heard of the Fluid System described by Bonnie Cohen anatomist? The theory incorporates the idea of the ground as fluid. It appears to be a pivotal component of the almighty "chi flow" theory.

@nielsik I'm not a practitioner, but this seems like an emphasis on the forward transfer of weight required to make the elbow hit hard.
Similar to how boxers are taught to throw a lead hook in part by pressing and rotating the ball of their foot into the ground as if they were putting out a cigarette butt.
That extra emphasis might be overkill but it reinforces the proper biomechanics to create force.
I usually push off the rear foot so that all my bodyweight is going forward and my elbow is rigid. The power doesn't come from speed, it comes from momentum and the integrity of the striking body part ( such that it's rigidness allows most of the momentum to transfer into the target ).
In this case, it looks like he's rotating his trunk after placing weight on the lead leg.
Might be a bit theatrical but it makes sense to me.
Terrible baji, lemme guess wutan?
