Chichon, her husband, it's in the description :-) He recently became the chief conductor and artistic director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
Carmen is a cold calculating sensual woman. Elina has captured the true Carmen, not the caricature we often get from Mezzos who lack the talent and insight to create a believable character onstage. Garanca is Carmen. Somewhere La Divina is smiling her approval and murmuring…"Finally, someone has gotten it right!"
To me, Carmen is a fiery gypsy girl. Her first entrance is her seducing a group of soldiers and describing the untamable nature of love. She wins the hearts of men, and soon afters breaks them. She exudes an aura of Passion and confidence. She also lives to cause trouble, and loves to flaunt the law. That's what you might have meant by your comment, but I just wanted to share what I thought about Carmen.
He'd almost have to be her husband. :) I've never seen a conductor get so intimately involved in a singer's aria. But it is charming (and kind of funny).
En ese concierto Elina canta La canción de Paloma, de El barberillo de Lavapies. La canta de maravilla en español y se la entiende perfectamente, lo que no es habitual.
I'd hardly call Carmen unrepentant and an unappealing bitch. She has her faults to be sure, but don't we all? I'd call her human and real more than anything. A refreshing change from most of the surreal female characters in opera (Things weren't that innocent even back then). She's strong and knows what she wants and isn't willing to compromise. Sure, she could show more loyalty, but that lack of loyalty is mainly towards her lovers and unwillingness to settle for something less than she wants.
She's the Lindsay Lohan of Opéra Comique! Give me a break Thianha! It was the style of the day to show women of the demi-monde, such as Violetta and Manon, but Carmen is a terminal narcissist with a borderline personality disorder, who also has no capacity for real love; men are just conquests, "l'amour est un oiseau rebelle"-exactement!
She is not just a soprano but an actress on stage. Her eyes and buddy language is excellent. I love it.
She is a Mezzo.
Bravo Latvia, Elina...❤
Oh i love this interpretation!!! Not an absolutely flirty Carmen, but a free-spirited one!!
she can't help but smile through this performance! it's wonderful! :)
Merveilleuse musique de Bizet.❤❤

He loves her, indeed!
They are very close...
I wonder everytime how can a blondine has such a voice!
What a silly comment!
@vivamigorky1646 she is my favorite mezzo, after Christa Ludwig. For her had all my favorite mezzos brown or black hair😅. Garanča ist außergewöhnlich!
Brahms. Mahler, and Tchaikovsky reportedly all thought this opera is a masterpiece. Brahms allegedly saw it 20 times.

No diga tonterías. Elina es mezzosoprano total, excelente y guapa.
