Merci.
This is the Garanca voice I love (2007 to 2012). So so melodic and beautiful. Obviously her mezzo has become deeper and richer with age, which makes her a better singer, but this voice is just superb to listen to!! Just brilliant.
I absolutely love her... But I hope its a technical issue what we hear in her last note... Its off by more than 1/2 step... Did anyone else hear this, or know about it??? Im curious...
@holborne235 Who "they" accept and where a man who sounds like a woman? In a pop show or transvestite show where a man imitates a woman for fun entertaining the crowd? Like Klaus Nomi or Artem Semenov? You compare apples with oranges. I have a valid point here that she sounds too feminine for men's roles, and to enjoy her singing I have to disattach from the image. But I heard e.g. great countertenor Jochen Kowalski in this aria, and it sounds right! Real CTs, not like PJ,don't sound like a woman
Sesto is supposed to be a young BOY not men anyway. That’s why mezzo voices more suited for such trouser roles. And who tells you audience don’t accept mezzos playing trouser roles? In fact Elina herself became famous because of playing Annio and later her Octavian and Sesto are VERY beloved among opera fans.
Elina Garanca yes Casatorio Civil Arthur Giorgio yes Nov - Berlín Alemania - Elina Garanca good night wonderful Thank you lovely yes lovely yes l Love you Kisses Berlinale Germny - Poland yes NEW YORK CITY .U.S.A.
@serenaluce But they can accept a man who sounds like a woman? Come on. Sounds to me like someone has an axe to grind more than any valid point to make.
I like her voice very much, but it's a MAN's aria, and she sounds too feminine for it. Why don't female mezzos at our time explore better WOMEN'S repertoire like Carmen which is sung by ANY voice from soprano to contralto, and leave castrati roles for countertenors who have advanced technique and sound like MEN?! That's why people are not interested in baroque and early classicism as normal people can't accept a singing woman and imagine that she is a MAN. We need a new opera reform now!!!

This concert was held in 2008. The high point of Elina's artistic journey IMO.
One of my favorite mezzos of the current generation. Mozart is my favorite composer.
Wow, it's just to die for. So luscious, so exquisitely musical. Brava, Elina.
Just stunning. At every level. STUNNING, STUNNING, STUNNING.
Elina Garanca, voz belíssima! Sempre magnífica!
What a beautiful and solid voice! She reminds me of Dame Sutherland : rich and solid voice, completely mastered. I am a fan as of right now!

The "č" is pronounced as "ch" in "China". Or in "Chichon", for that matter :-) The thing above the "i" is a length mark.
Thanks for your comments.
superb singing.
If Aphrodite could sing, this is probably what it would look and sound like!
I adore her!!!
New Russia State Symphony Orchestra, Karel Mark Chichon, September 2008, Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

i think it was just the vibrato that gave this thought
Yep, sounded a fraction sharp to me as well, but not a semitone. And I love her too!
Karel Mark Chichon, conductor - orchestra ?
Why are so many of these videos out of synch? It's so easy to get it right.
Th c in her last name is pronounced ch.
Rautaista ammattitaitoa kaikki. Elina Garanca kuuluu maailman huippusopraanoihin.

Gut, gut, Sarantscha :)
This aria goes great with a Tito's vodka cocktail

My understanding is that the opera was written with this male role to be sung by a mezzo.
It was originally written for a castrato, so either a mezzo or countertenor is required.
