    ---------------------------------------------
    Early last century Mary Boyne and her husband Ned were a well to do American couple who had decided to migrate and settle in one of the Southern counties of England. After busy and productive business lives they were looking forward to a sedate lifestyle of smelling the roses, wherein Ned could work on his long-planned book on economics. On arrival in the island realm, they had immediately consulted Mary’s cousin Alida Stair who had followed a similar path and was now well-established in her own English mansion.

      @Hip Shooter what’s that supposed to mean? Non-reader? Seriously? If you think I haven’t read my share of books, you truly need to think again! Regardless of your point, you don’t know me and definitely know nothing about me so kindly keep your ungrounded opinions to yourself and if you really want to be a human being, try to realize it isn’t a keyboard that makes you a “statesman”….

    Now I'm trying to figure out how a ghost could kill a living person and how he did it. Maybe he led him somewhere, like off a cliff? And did they ever find his body? I guess it would've been a lot easier to make someone disappear back in the day.

      @Hip Shooter Just because I didn't know this was a fictional story doesn't mean I'm not a reader. I've loved reading since I was a small child and my love of books has never diminished. My eyesight, however, has diminished quite a bit now that I'm growing older. I'm legally blind without my glasses if that tells you anything. I apologize if I'm not as knowledgeable as you in that particular genre. I wasn't trying to offend you with my less than stellar knowledge of it.

    So this is the short fictional story “Afterwards,” by American author Edith Wharton. Literally this is her story verbatim. Is Weird World now reading short ghosts or are you trying to pretend that this is a real event? I truly hope it’s the first and not the latter, as I love your channel and I’d hate to stop watching due to plagiarism.

      They credit the book and author in the description. But I partly agree because the title of the video should reflect that. I have no problem with channels that have audiobooks, but this kind of feels like Clickbait because of the video title.

    I am outraged! I can’t find any place where you have credited Edith Wharton for her story. You imply that this is one of the true stories which I formerly enjoyed watching on Wired World, but here you are deceiving your viewers. And adding the word “read” in the introduction does not alter the fact that this is plagiarism.

    • @joycemiller-bean1814
      @joycemiller-bean1814 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The credit to Wharton only appeared LONG AFTERWARD ( to quote Wharton ) when Weird World saw that viewers had recognized their plagiarism. Originally no mention was made of Wharton in either the narration or the credits. This is very disappointing to me because Wired World was one of my absolute favorites in this genre with its diversity of stories and topics. They didn’t have to cheat. I won’t be watching anymore.

    • @joycemiller-bean1814
      @joycemiller-bean1814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @XYZABC Believeit The Merriam-Webster Dictionary and multiple other highly reputable sources define plagiarism as”to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source” without providing credit to that source; this encompasses literary products such as novels and short stories. Weird World directly plagiarized noted author Edith Wharton’s story: from character names to full plot.
      To say that Weird World possibly did not know it was Wharton’s work is also not acceptable as it is the responsibility of anyone presenting work to the public (as in TH-cam postings) to vet ( make a careful and critical examination) any and all works they are not their original creations. Not having checked the facts is not an excuse for this highly unethical action.

    • @joycemiller-bean1814
      @joycemiller-bean1814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @XYZABC Believeit Weird World clearly only added the attribution to Wharton AFTER folks began pointing out in the comments that they were plagiarizing. The inclusion of the word “reads” in the title does not in any way negate the plagiarism as it has no clarification such as “Weird World “reads” from Classic Ghost Stories”; and even then, they would be required to attribute the work to its author or they would still be plagiarizing and/ or violating copyright of the author or the author’s literary estate if ( as in the case of Wharton) the author is deceased.

      @Hip Shooter 😂😂😂 oh Lordy, that was some roasting but interesting!!

    • @joycemiller-bean1814
      @joycemiller-bean1814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Hip Shooter Actually, outrage aptly describes seeing that a classic tale is being passed off as the other Weird World stories (I.e. true events) which I had found to be very enjoyable. You are absolutely right in noting that Wharton’s story is now in the public domain ;and I’m fully cognizant of the meaning of the term.
      While Weird World is not legally culpable, they cannot wriggle out of being unethical by trying to pass this off as one of their true stories.
      And by the way, why are so agitated that you resort to cursing? Why are you afraid of having rational discourse about as issue on which we disagree?

  • @bernice6867
    @bernice6867 ปีที่แล้ว

    While this is good as ghost "stories" go I find it annoying that I have to be on the look out whether a story is true or not. Am I to understand that everytime you don't state "true" it is fiction? I wish you would discern that more clearly or better, not mix this at all.

    - it was difficult to even listen to the story - like the story 'doesnt' become more interesting because of the accent, actually its annoyingly distracting
