Night Lords consider worshipping the Chaos Gods to be a display of weakness and accepting their gifts a sign of impurity. There are Night Lords that go against the grain, but the Legion's general vision on the Chaos Gods is one of disgust.
Iron Warriors basically have the same opinion, except to much larger extremes. If an Iron Warrior gets mutated by Chaos like a third limb, it is custom for him to burn it off. Iron Warriors will however milk Chaos for all it is willing to give without giving something of theirs in return.
Both Legions will use Chaos if they think it can get them an advantage (like sorcery or Daemon Engines), but, generally speaking, they will NOT outright worship the Chaos Gods.

To be fair the Night Lord's have been the Fallen Chapter most often redeemed, or at least offered the chance of redemption. What springs to mind is the NL who makes friend with a young psyker girl, hears her in trouble, and makes an effort to free her from her captors.
They have an inherent proclivity towards justice, but it was warped by where they recruited from and what they were pushed to during the Great Crusade. Instead now they try to rule through fear as a substitute for their inherent drive to create stability and punish wrongdoers/prevent crime.
Like many of the Fallen Chapter's, they could easily have been among the best of men had things turned out a little different. Had Konrad trusted his visions a little less, had he not already been broken by Nocturne, then things could have been very different.
Konrad Curze was sent to Nostromo by the Gods of Chaos because he was the only being besides the Emperor who could make them feel fear. I would love to see Curze come back and fulfill his destiny: terrorize the God's. 😈

I think the story you refer to I think is the long night............. its about Sevatar first Captain of the NL who is captured by the totally loyal dark angels legion, Sevatars pysker gift is killing him slowly as he shut it away before. The Pysker is a young woman in the astropathic choir of the chip, the 2nd voice and she is somehow able to keep him alive. The 1st voice discovers this and has her beaten and maimed, sevatar was to be transfered to a prison ship which the girl warned him about and frozen multiple DA legionaries and one of their librarians, which allows Sevatar to be the badass and chad troll he is.
He goes to the pysker woman and moves onto the 1st voice, who he "punishes" while stating; "I am Judgement, I am Justice, I am PUNISHMENT AND I.......... surrender" to which he then surrenders to the DA again after maiming and killing the first voice, and which the last we hear of Sevatar is in his cell talking to the astropath. (I think anway).
But the NL were subject to corruption on Nostramo very badly, yeah intially many recruits were murderers and not so nice people............but cartel families and gangs retook control and subverted the legion recruitment programs. Thats why for many astartes they recruit the best pre-prebusucent children they can, the new Nostroman regime emptied the prisons for the recruitment programs and tampered with the reports to show "yes these are mentally sound recruits"............... but of course Kurze's degeneration into madness didnt help the matter either.
@@avadoesart9132 I believe his case is similar to Magnus witb a different outcome. Made some mistakes, knew they were mistakes after the fact, kinda regreted it but had nowhere else to go. They kind of both represent an extreme example to the answers posed by the question of Nihilism, where the individual either suicides or becomes the Ubermench. Of course we all know which brother picked which. Konrad decided to die, while Magnus decided to fight back and become unshackled by morality and the old subconcious anti-psyker rules that were forced upon him by Big E.

I can feel Decimus' anger and at the same time, I can imagine a sadistic grin spreading across his face when he says, "...I am a NIGHT LORD." Then the hard beat of the music kicks in, gives me goosebumps everytime. And after reading the Night Lords omnibus, they are by far my favorite legion! AVE DOMINUS NOX!!!

As a huge fan of the Night Lords Trilogy by ADB, I had in the back of my head, a fleeting hope that this story might be from a perceptive from a certain Night Lord from the tail end of said series. When I heard the line "I am Decimus" I swear I screamed so loud in excitement that I feared that I woke up my parents. Well played Warrior Tier.
They were the first books I ever read about 40k, so glad you enjoyed it brother!

What would be very cool, if at the very end of it all. The last ones standing are the Night Lords. And they just stand there saying “justice has been served”
No… a cool thing would be a a group of Night Lords sacrificing themselves to bring the blue boys down by bringing the Tyranids to them. That way, it’s just a free-for-all carnage throughout the battlefield.
I remember diving into 40K, researching the different Primarchs and their Legions…there were the neat Viking ones, the red berserker ones, the interesting stealth ones…
…and then I saw the concept art for blue Space Marines who apparently had flayed skin on their armor.
Wondering what THAT was all about, I looked into their Primarch, Konrad Curze…
…and, hooboy…was THAT some kind of uncomfortable story…born alone, born in perpetual darkness, born in violence, all while having dreams of a nightmarish future…it’s like, how could you NOT become a monster?
So he becomes something between Hannibal Lector & Batman; inherits an army of super soldiers, and proceeds to mutilate & terrorize countless worlds…while frustratingly leaving the smallest body count of any other legion.
Oh, and torturing your regenerating, benevolent brother; because ANGST.
The Night Lords always make me feel sick; so I suppose they do their job well.
I just hope that Konrad Creepypasta stays dead.
Don't worry. Konrad is one of the few people that it going to stay dead, because unlike many now dead monsters, he actively wanted to just die already.
Yeah plus they couldn't write a villain as good and tragic as Konrad again

Kurze and his sons..... I find it hard to show empathy at times. A tragic tale no less, but whatever happened to performing one's duty without feeling entitled to something. Duty is reward enough brothers ✊️ but on a serious note, great work Brother Tier. Really really enjoying the artwork that goes along with it!

If I had to choose a traitor legion, these guys are my favorite. And of course Warrior Tier excelling at your job as usual. NL are quite misunderstood from the beginning, mostly Konrad Curze.
He's just crazy. PTSD'd into madness. The premonitions didn't really help. How are you to have free will and walk your own path if you see your f'd up future?

Excellent video! Just one minor correction at 5:02 , should read "I am the prophet of the VIII Legion"
I noticed that as well. And at the start of the video, their homeworld was spelled Nostramo rather than Nostromo. Although it's misspelled half the time on the 40k wiki page about Night Lords as well so that's maybe where that error came from.

I work in HR. We had a meeting discussing about some of the employees getting too lax and taking advantage of the small, nice company we work for. So we discussed about how to handle this. I told my team that we need to write up the lot and make them examples to everyone else. I told them that fear ensures loyalty and this will ensure they stay in line.

I feel like the Terran-born Night Lords could be more tragic. They fought alongside the Emperor, they helped unify Terra, they were the ones who hid in the shadows to slay the monsters, and now they are the monsters themselves, never fighting without overwhelming advantage, running at the first sign of a fair fight. No honor, no strength, no loyalty.
How the mighty have fallen.
...I suspect that some of the Terran-born Night Lords may still remember their old greatness, but that would be a small number after ten millennia, & very likely of one of the weakest of the war bands. Such a unit could offer some interesting characters though!

This is fantastic. I think the Night Lords are among the more interesting traitor Astartes legions because they do not openly worship any of the four Chaos Gods (although their demeanor and methods most closely resemble Khorne). Great voice acting and word choice.
My only nit-pick is that XIII is thirteen. VIII is eight. That's literally the only thing I can point out that is remotely incorrect, and it didn't take away from the video's purpose or integrity. I'm not being mean spirited about it, just pointing it out.

Ever since I listened to the night Lords series with the character Talos and the short story with Sevatar I've loved the night lords. They used to be such edge lords in my mind but not anymore. The ones that stand for their legions values make the night lords so damn cool
