You’re missing 2 banger George songs on yellow submarine. Northern a song is cool but zAll too Much is a legend of a Beatles song. Don’t skip it.

I don't agree the drums are overdubbed on Silverfuck (although admittedly I'm not an expert so I could be wrong too) It's just in my experience with watching Jimmy C, he really is that fast with using the toms and cymbals.... he's a trained jazz drummer, and one of his signatures is keeping the high hat pedal going while he's going nuts with the toms.

I totally agree with you. A lot of their sound comes over as noise from a lot of guitar pedals with a load of fuzz. It's headac The singer sounds like a singing down the nose and out of the Anus. They're big at being pretencious and show boating.

"Mystery tours", as they were called, were an actual thing in England that offered tourists a recreational bus ride to unknown destinations. But although that's the literal meaning of the song, many interpreted it to be a metaphor about being drafted into the army, never to return (the Vietnam War was raging at this time and the Beatles were very publically against it). So I agree, there is a haunting vibe to it. FYI: this album was actually a soundtrack to a TV special Paul was putting together with the band.

Yeah, Rubber Soul is the one instance where the American/Capital version is ostensibly superior to the Parlaphone version. The order and slightly different track selection of the American version made it a really ground-breaking album, almost a concept album--if blending folk-country-pop in a uniquely cohesive way was a concept. And "I've Just Seen A Face" is a better album opener.

"You Like Me Too Much" and "Tell Me What You See" are the weakest Beatles songs IMHO. I'd really rather listen to Wild Honey Pie, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, or Revolution 9.

Late to the game here but you mentioned, and I’m paraphrasing, “album didn’t end with much of a statement”. You were talking when their actual final statement was uttered. “In the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make”. I’d say that’s one helluva final statement. Appreciated the overall reaction tho 👍🏼

I love your reviews. No shitty fake overacting and some clever inputs. But the greatest proof of the greatness of the Beatles is that Penny Lane, a song with maybe +20 chords, with modal interchanges and 7 or 8 modulations, can be labeled as a"nice catchy fun little track"

Although you can like what you like, I definitely appreciate you willing to voice your opinion. I actually do think that this is a bad album. All of the songs (except for I'll follow the sun and eight days a week, which were some of their best pre revolver songs) were painfully mediocre. It sounds like a rejected list of tracks from a hard day's night and help (I don't wanna spoil the party sounds like an early version of you like me too much). I can appreciate the album as a beatles fan, but that is the only way I'll turn back to that album. Ironically, it was the first beatles album I heard. I listened to it again years later and all the tracks sounded new because I didn't remember a single one.

Hey mate, it’s all good if you don’t like the album, we all have those bands we don’t click with. I’d just like to say I think the reason others like it is Noel Gallagher did actually have a talent for writing chord progressions that had tension and momentum and generated emotion. And while they wore their influences on their sleeve, the raw guts of the songs, the chord progressions and the basic music, did actually have some originality to them. I’m not from the uk but I’m guessing because their music is perceived to appeal to chavs, or a lot of normal people like it, it becomes harder to listen to unbiased. Or maybe you just don’t like it, and that’s fine. There are plenty of popular groups that are critically acclaimed I don’t like either. Pink Floyd bore me to death to name but one. But well done on being honest, people are far too afraid to have a negative opinion about anything these days.

i'd really recommend checking out georges first solo album after the break up (all things must pass) if you haven't; has a lot of songs that were written around the time of let it be and abbey road that didn't make it on the albums for one reason or another (george keeping them to use later or paul/john shooting them down) and it's a really good listen

"your mother should know" is one of the beatles weakest tracks. but the video is cool. side one of the album is the soundtrack from the "MMT" tv film. the fil;m sucks. i mean its really bad. but the music sequences are excellent. which is where the videos come from. side two is a collection of 1967 singles. thanks for the video.

If there is a song out there better than Strawberry fields I haven't heard it. Greatest creative melody ever written. Another Lennon masterpiece is Number 9 Dream. Kate Bush agrees with me on that one. You say you have 10 or 20 songs you think are better. What are they? Penny Lane is also a perfect song with one of the most beautiful chord shifts in music, one only McCartney could come up with.

In Blue Jay Way, the 'phasing' you reference was back then considered 'flanging'. They would play two identical tapes back, hold down the 'flange' of a tape reel to delay one tape from the other. When you'd let go, the tape reels would re-sync-creating some pretty crude sci-fi wavy whooshy resonant noises. They also used reverse drum reverbs. For the vocals, george recorded through a set of 'Leslie speakers', that could be spun at a variable rate, which was pumped pretty heavy for the chorus on this song. It was also used on Here Comes the Sun and prolly some others. Phasing may have also been used which is targeting a variable set of harmonic frequency ranges like a wah pedal but I can't tell.

Originally this was a double EP around the world (side one). But in the U.S. they turned it into an album by taking all the recent singles and creating side two. Although this doesn't rate in the top five of Beatles albums, consider if you never had heard the songs on side two before would you then consider this one of their best albums? Possibly.

Bro, you have to listen to “It’s All Too Much” from Yellow Sub. It’s one of George’s finest, and absolutely the best psychedelic rock song they ever recorded. Listen to the version from the yellow sub Songtrack rather than the one from the yellow sub album. The mix is better.

I don't listen to this album nearly as much as I should. Similarly to King Gizzard's Laminated Denim, it has everything I want from this stage of the band, but I never feel the need to return to it. It's my best friend's favorite Beatles album too, and she has great taste in music. Also, just wanted to say a lot of people don't like the new I Am The Walrus mix because Giles Martin decided to add extra sounds to the outro that were cut originally. This is the first time Giles made a creative decision that the Beatles didn't make. That being said, the new mixes have to be approved by the currently living members of the band as well as the widows of the dead ones, so I guess they didn't care. Very good song and album regardless. Very excited to eventually see the solo albums and Past Masters! I've actually only listened to Imagine once, liked it a lot, cried about it, and it's been like a year and a half since then, but I've heard Ram a couple times and liked it. As for past masters, the non-album singles Paperback Writer and Rain are some of my all time favorite Beatles songs, especially Rain due to the recording innovations of slowing the track down, speeding up Johns voice and the outro. The harmonies, drums and bass are also incredible (the bass was overdubbed after the slowdown I'm pretty sure, Apple records got that one wrong.) Rain is actually Ringo's favorite performance of his, it's one of the only times he goes a little crazy, which is more apparent in the original speed version.

The incredible thing about The Beatles’ music, along with that of other great artists from the 1960s, is that the majority of their songs were recorded using 4-track machines. 8-track machines only became available in the late ’60s, and The Beatles used them exclusively for Abbey Road and Let It Be. Musicians and producers had to carefully plan how to allocate each track (e.g., vocals, instruments, drums). To include more elements, they often bounced multiple tracks into one, freeing up space for additional layers. Many recordings required flawless performances, as overdubbing options were limited and re-recording meant erasing what was already recorded. For that reason, I consider many albums from that era to be real masterpieces.

I have always felt “Revolver” to be a rather overrated album. “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “I’m Only Sleeping” are among my least favourite Beatles songs. The rest of the Revolver album is good but nowhere near the group’s best for me!
