- Ukrainian special forces have been filmed surprising and killing Russian soldiers in brutal close-quarters trench fighting on the southern front.
It came as Ukraine said it had captured another village in the south and Rishi Sunak, the prime minister, said the counter offensive was “making good progress.”
The two minute clip purports to show members of the 72nd Marine Centre for Special Operations, the Ukrainian equivalent of Britain’s Special Boat Service, storming a Russian trench system somewhere in the south of the country.
It shows the man wearing the camera shooting four Russian soldiers in quick succession and at very close range as they charge around corners of the trenches.

This is the Ukrainian 73rd Naval SOF unit... their analogue to US Special Forces and Navy Seals.
The amazing thing about this action is that they raced AROUND the Russian defence line and approached the REAR of the trenches on very fast moving light vehicles.
The actual footage is SAVING PRIVATE RYAN kind of stuff.. but for real.

Actually it makes perfect sense. The reason they dug trenches in WW1 was because of machine guns and artillery and all the various new more accurate ways to kill, the only way to occupy a field was to dig into it.
That hasn't changed just because we are 100 years on, infantry still need to hold ground and snipers and machine guns and such still exist, so the the trench still exists.
The only time that would ever change would be if the chances of survival by being dug in become less (due to some new weapons) than the chances of survival by being more mobile and just avoiding them. Similar to how battleships got larger and larger as guns on them got bigger until aircraft could carry missiles that would get through even the thickest battleship armour and they were immediately obsolete.

Actual video shows these SF kill 3 Russians at point blank distance. Russians clearly had no clue they were infiltrated and just ran straight into the bullets.

I’d say the worst vid is where 10 Ukrainian soldiers are trying to pull a BTR out of a ditch at the very beginning of the war and then two tanks start rolling down the road they wave to them thinking they are friendlies then 2 seconds later they fire point blank range leaving only pink mist. There is an aftermath video also it’s the first video that made me trully upset about the war.

This is totally sanitized. I’ve seen the original 2:00 version, which makes clear that in war killing often is up close and personal, even face to face.
I saw one of the Russian guys run into the Ukrainians in the trench, get shot twice in the torso, fall immediately, and then he let out this horrific blood curdling moan which stops when they shoot him twice in the head. Putin and his enablers have so much to answer for; causing all of this horrific madness. Too many young people having violent painful deaths, and all for nothing. I'm seeing the tragedy of it now more clearly than I had been.

What they shooting at?
Because bullets are replaceable, humans aren't, it is common practice for Ukrainians when storming an extremely hazardous trench, to shoot first, and ask questions never, the enemy can be lurking behind any corner, so it is best practice, to move up and take the corner while also putting rounds down range on the off chance that there is someone lurking there. Grenades are kept on hand for when they actually identify an enemy combatant trying to make a stand and shoot back, to minimize exposure to crossfire.
This tactic is called by the Russians: OMG HAXXOR COWARD CAMPERS. But it is an effective tactic for minimizing casualties sustained during an assault.

They did not surrender when given the chance. At that point it is irrelevant if they're armed or not: They are still enemy combatants trying to fight.
According to international law this is in no way an "execution".
In the full video, the Ukrainian spec ops got them pinned and were yelling for them to come out with their hands up, so they wouldn’t be shot. Russians didn’t comply, so they got smoked, I’d say they are definitely fair game at this point

I don't think I'd describe it as beautiful. It's pretty much brutal and terrifying in equal measure, but the sheer professionalism and skill of the Ukrainian soldiers in removing their uninvited guests is beyond question.
