Russian-controlled tank laden with bombs explodes near Ukrainian frontline

- This is the moment a Russian-controlled tank exploded with a reported six tonnes of explosives onboard.
The tank had apparently been captured and was being driven remotely to Ukrainian positions.
But 100 metres before reaching the frontline, the vehicle was slowed down as it hit a mine.
It was then hit by a Ukrainian rocket, causing the huge explosion, according to reports.
Despite not reaching its target, the huge pressure wave from the blast could have been fatal for some.
The incident took place near Marinka, on the outskirts of Donetsk, and the tank appears to be a T-54 or T-55.
The footage was posted on Telegram by a pro-Russia account.

A blastwave typically exceeds the a amount of pressure the human body can tolerate by a very, Very wide margin. Hence the deflecting corners in trenches. Something like that will come over the top and down into them with its leading edge though. Survival will depend on things like which way the entrance to the deeper portions point to, how close they were to a wall, to the detonation..
6 tons... Maybe 75 meters in all directions 100%. But the hull complicates things if it funneled more up than out to the sides before it came apart.
The guy with the rpg... Maybe he lived. Maybe there's just a pair of legs if he was still standing-up.
One thing for sure, it blew everybody's eardrums. Their effectiveness is gone. Smarter people would follow-up on that and send a raid.

Russians are reporting they captured an area of trenches called "the menagerie" south of Marinka. They've been trying to take it for months. So maybe this was a part of that operation.

It was not a captured tank. The Russian "milbloggers" are too embarrassed to mention that their side has broken out old T-55 tanks from storage, because they are running short on any newer tanks.

According to Forbes, the Ukrainians employ a number of T-55s themselves - specifically, the ex-Slovenian M-55S. It's not impossible that the Russians have captured some.
T55 is great when dug into a defensive position. 100mm gun still very effective and decently accurate.
Interesting. Because, I remember when Ukraine was getting T55s last year, it was a brilliant choice for Ukraine because of how uniquely suitable it was for the specific conditions of the Ukraine war. I didn't detect any embarrassment, then.

The tank exploded 0.6 seconds after the rocket was fired at it. I imagine he and anyone in visual line of sight did not survive the shock pressure wave and also maybe others hunkered down in the trench as well. This is sad how 10s of thousands of people are being killed in horrendous ways.

But it exploded too soon. The trench and dugout will still be functional enough.

Yeah, no. That's not how Russia or Russian tanks work. Driving a T-Anything is a very physical job. There was a person, compelled by whatever means, behind the controls of that kamikaze tank.

However, in this war, this is not necessary.

It's 2023. We have FPV drones fitted with explosives, deep fake imagery that is too real, portable internet satellites, dumb bombs being fitted with GPS guided retrofitted "wings" .... i'm pretty sure we can figure out how to automate an old tank tbh...

Sadly 99% likely he was liquified by the pressure wave (his brain would have been turned to liquid paste in his skull, even if the exterior of his body had no injuries. This happend to a fair number of US soldiers during the war on terror when an IED would go off. Not a mark on their body, but the pressure wave of the blast liquified their brain, killing them instantly)

The drone was far away hence the poor quality footage. I'm 50/50 on their survival in the trench since I don't know enough, that blast wave went over them almost instantaneously though. They'll be out of the fight but maybe still alive

@@LD-pt5ur Transmissions fail frequently on early T-series and some parts are scarce. any old tank is potentially a self-propelled indirect fire platform. Throwing away a functioning tank to at best disable a short hunk of trench is not a move that denotes confidence or power, but desperation.
It does make a great TikTok though. UA lacks that TikTok savvy, only blowing up ammo depots and command centers w/o even any good video. UA definitely losing the TikTok/TH-cam war, only winning on body count and getting the Russians to reveal their command/communication structure.
