The grass is always greener on the other side. I'm in the US and would love to have access to the LC's you have there. Here, Rams are a dime a dozen. And while Cummins can't be beat, they unfortunately wrapped a Dodge around it. Sharp truck, but don't expect the reliability of the a LC.

Up til the 6.7 Powerstroke, I’d say the perfect truck is a Super Duty with a Cummins swap. But, we ford guys can finally be satisfied with our own engines lol.

In the USA I bet you aren’t paying $160 thousand dollars for the truck, then when you look at all the crap added to this one, it’s probably another $100 grand on top. Australians are obsessed with towing stuff as well or pulling a caravan out to dingo piss creek. To the average Australian who just wants a nice truck as a family vehicle, sadly all these US trucks are far out of reach. Buying a RAM , Silverado or Ftruck, it’s like buying a European prestige car, hence why Chinese pick ups are selling fast.

I have a 2022 stage 1 PW. I always had LandCruisers in the past. I had a 2006 and was T-boned by a Chevy 2500, totaling myLC. I wanted another one, but couldn’t find a used one that was decent. I am very pleased with the PW. With 410 Ho and a4.10 rear end itisvery quick. No problem with passing. I get 11 mpg towing a car trailer and 3900 lb car, but only get 9 mpg in town.

I've owned Ram's for the last 24 years personally and my family has since the 1950s. I have 4 sitting in my barn currently. The Cummins diesel is a great motor and the truck itself is good. As far as stock HP and get up and go, the Ford 6.7L beats the Ram all day in seat of the pants power. As far as reliability and ease of repair, I'll keep my Cummins. I'm glad to see they are taking off in Australia. The off-road and touring modifications you boys have been doing for years finally can start to be refined and built for USA trucks. You nailed it when you said that Australian made has built a reputation for quality that others look up to. I agree with that. Now to design one of your PCOR beds with the rear tray that also allows a hideaway gooseneck hitch. Find a quality electric locker for the front and rear on the AAM axles that can handle the higher torque and HP. Also, test a snorkel kit that makes sure it allows enough CFM to flow through it to support the turbo(s) on the Ram. Lastly, one free mod that produces great sound out of the turbo, remove the silencer ring from the turbo inlet and let her whistle. Merry Christmas from Texas!

dunno if i'd say taking off. The 2500 cost $170k here before on road costs, plus the $50K worth of "essential mods" listed here, then you're basically at quarter of mill. Nice of you got the coin, but until they make them from the factory in RHD they're priced way too high to be sold in any significant numbers to be considered common.

Of course nobody pays RRP for a car, so there is some variation in price there, but at $170k RRP the RAM 2500 this is still very much an aspirational purchase for the majority of Aussies.

Got a 1500 and 2500. 1500 is my daily driver and smaller toy tower, with air suspension. Not bad for off-roading. The 2500 is my beast that tows my monster and handles the off-road situations where I live with ease, but is an incredibly thirsty beast. Been looking at replacing the stock box with a custom box. My daily driver is a 2500 CC with the 6.7 Cummins and a factory box. There are a couple of upgrades that my truck has to fix some of the issues. I added a Dynatrac free spin kit which gets rid of the unit bearings in the front and adds about 2 MPG when the hubs are unlocked. It has the locking front diff from the Power Wagon in the front and an air locker in the back, Fab Fours full guard winch bumper with a 14,000 lb Superwinch Talon in front and a 12,500 lb Talon in the back. It runs on 37x1350x18 Interco M16s (7" long arm lift) and sits around 7'4" tall.

They have a ton of torque, but you'll notice the power change from a 33" tire when you go to the larger tire unless you regear. Some say you gain the loss of the get-up and go on the top end with Fuel economy but I never noticed that. Others say the engine runs at a better RPM with the larger tire but with mine running 35's or 37's, I always wanted to regear it to gain some of the get-up and go that I lost. Mine has 373's and was producing a bit more power than stock HP and torque. We run the F550's on 42's at work. Google Skeeter brush trucks for a picture of what I am talking about. They are regeared and also as tall as a house, but the big thing you notice is how much longer it takes to stop the rolling mass. That is on an axle and setup way beefier than the Ram 2500/3500 runs.

  • @JHM81
    @JHM81 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Justin, I’m an American viewer and love what you’ve done with the truck. I know there are differences in the laws between our two countries, but I would recommend a few parts manufacturers for you to look into for your rig.
Morimoto for better headlights and taillights. Hutchinson double beadlocks. Northwest Fabrication for additional transfer case gearing. They make a doubler that will bolt onto the front of the case. Not sure if you would prefer a manual transmission on this rig, but they make one for the Ram trucks as well. It’s a Getrag G56. Many companies sell upgraded models and all the kit needed (bell housing, flywheel, dual-disk clutches, etc.). You NEED to get some locking hubs for the front axle. It can help fuel mileage and make the front more robust. Yukon Gear & Axle makes them. Of course ARB makes air-lockers for the differentials. I’m not sure if you would be interested in methanol injection for the truck, but it can improve fuel mileage and power as well. (You can use windshield wiper fluid in a pinch instead of the formulated blends.) Snow Performance does that. Companies that make good, emissions-compliant performance parts are BD Diesel and Banks Performance.
I’m certain I’m not telling you anything you haven’t already researched already, but I just wanted to give you some ideas. I love all of the gear and video content you guys make. You can really turn these trucks into beefy platforms if you are so inclined.
Keep up the great work and much love from the US!

An idea on your roof racks, have you ever considered an extruded (or expanding) foam underlay molded to the roof? It would add sound and heat isolation, extra load capacity, stability if combined with a lower profile aerodynamic shape be a game changer.

This episode was perfect for me I am going to go with the 2500 diesel that I that I really wanted all along. The only other things I hope to put on mine are extra water tank, extra gas tank and Kitchen. I am in Michigan USA so I think I will have AEV American expedition vehicles in in Wixom, Michigan order your pCore system from Oklahoma and do the installations. Thank you so much! Thomás Gomez

Great video Justin cheers! If you were in the USA you’d get so much crit for this as there are millions of RAM haters out there with their Fords, Chevys and Toyota’s lol but that’s okay I’m a RAM owner got 2 1500s ones a third gen 6speed manual and I just got a 2020 hemi with ram boxes so I don’t even really need a tray anymore for what I do just a built in bed deck and rolling aluminum cover. I don’t tow and didn’t wana spend $10k more so that’s honestly main reasons I didn’t get a 2500 even though I want one! Since DEF was introduced into the states on diesel trucks I have been put off and prefer the older models especially with the 6speed manual. If they find a way to get rid of the DEF I’ll get a 25-3500 auto next time, but by then maybe the electric offroad trucks might be the way to go 🤷🏻‍♂️. Either way I’ll keep my gassers til they die. They’re so easy to maintain and even with inferior fuel economy the life cycle cost of the vehicles is great!

Nice run down on the 2500. Would be my pick for a vehicle, if I could afford it. Like you covered awesome torque but out of the box there is bugger all that needs changing. I like you have the basics covered in wheels, canopy etc and not much junk cluttering the interior. Yeah I’d have gone a different bull bar though, a snorkel & a light bar up on the roof rack. I find the high set light bar on the roof rack better for picking up Roos etc out west at night. Big thing, the KISS principle is how I like my trucks too. Nice job on this one. What’s the height of the lift you did? I don’t recall you covering that.

So there’s definitely benefits to the 6.7 vs the 6.4 hemi. The torque is way more in the 6.7, it’s true. The issue is the platform really doesn’t make use out of it. Towing on my 6.4 hemi with 4.10 is 16,880 vs 19,000 with the 6.7. 2100 lbs for nearly double the torque. Why? Cause the platform is exactly the same. More torque doesn’t mean more towing. And you lose about 850 lbs in payload with the 6.7. When you consider all that, and then realize the 6.7 is going to cost you a ton more in fuel and maintenance, the only reason to get a 6.7 is to say you have a 6.7. Which trust me, I get. If you love diesel, it’s the engine you want. But it’s a luxury option, not a necessity.

Kinda curious on how y’all would build a truck like that since y’all are the experts on that cause I take the truck all over my home state of Utah and going with a tray and canopy seems like a better fit then the other of putting a bed rack on and leaving the pickup bed but I was wondering if I went to pcor USA would they be able to help me with builds tray that meets my needs or would I need to go somewhere else ?

2002 Dodge Ram 2500 w/Cummins 5.9 2nd gen engine, NV 5600 six speed manual & Dana 80 rear end. One owner (me) and now coming up on it's 20th anniversary and ~200k miles (320k km) and it's never let me down once. It started life towing a 32' Montana Mountaineer TT (~18k lbs with truck & trailer) so it got broke in real good. It now carries our custom all steel camper top so around 10k lbs loaded when we head out camping.
All the naysayers going on about how bad the Dodge cab/chassis is either don't have a clue or treated their rigs like shit. This is hands down the best pickup I've ever owned and I have no plans of ever letting it go. You gotta love the Dodge Ram!!!!!
