I bought it and for remote play I thought I made a huge investment mistake but with the streaming, beta I can get it out without collecting dust I am happy now.
Before the Portal dropped, I put out a video on my tiny channel and called it exactly as it has turned out. When I leave I take a PS5 controller and just connect to my phone or take my tablet when I know I might have some waiting time somewhere. No extra money needed. That was my take before they had even started taking pre-orders.
Same here bro. And honestly, I have a switch OLED and Steamdeck OLED so there’s no need to use it! I even best kingdom hearts 2 on it and that was mostly a nightmare lol
Yea I actually really like the portal. I don’t have many if any lag issues. You have to consider not only your bandwidth but your actual wifi connection. You may also want to change some network settings to prioritize the Portal. After I did those couple of things I am streaming Uncharted with no lag issues whatsoever. I also have a 5G hotspot with unlimited data on it so I can literally take this thing anywhere and it performs very well.
Its definitely a luxury/convenience buy, you don't need it at all. I copped one second hand for under 100, and I ain't mad at it. For 200 though its a reach.
I had the portal 30th in my basket yesterday but was not all in. It sold out when I came back later in the evening. Your video made feel a tiny bit better. Fight the fomo!
on God I be at work no problem rocking out. but what I do is connect an ethernet usbc adapter to my phone and put an ethernet directly to the phone and my connection is A-1. while using my hotspot
I actually do not see an issue with this device at all. Yes you can use a phone: but no phone screen is currently comparable to that of a portable gaming device like this (or the Logitech Cloud or Steam Deck). Also with the issues of lag, I think you need to check your internet connection my man. There should be no difference of streaming on this device vs stream on your PS5. There is definitely a market for this, especially for people who want to remote into their own device and play on the go, which is possible these days with a 5G connection.
@ I’ve been using my switch but I wanted something with a little more oomph. Was debating on a Steamdeck, but I have a pretty good computer and laptop for gaming, and with the idea of another steam deck coming out, I’d rather wait for that. I don’t know, thing is pretty awesome. My ps5 was getting thick ass layer of dust, so it’s nice to finally get some use out of it.
Dude. You forget that this device is only and best capable streaming device for PS. It's streaming. It's not for esports but this product is awsome for casual gamers and for them [me included], this thing rocks.
I’m in your world. I can’t find video evidence of this thing having an acceptable amount of input lag. Every tech review has it at 60-80ms beyond TV output. Chiaki on the deck and also the XBplay apps are around 30ms difference from TV output. I just think people don’t care or even notice. They may not evem have low latency on their TV so they are used to it.
BROOOO! These people had me believing I’m crazy or something! I’ve tried my hardest to work around it, but it is just something that bugs me. like it genuinely bugs me, the fact that it’s so slow compared to just playing on a normal PS5 on TV.
I thought about buying it, but I went with the psvr 2 since it's on sale. I just dont think i would use it and am not sure it would work well away from home on road trips very well, plus i have a controller for my phone to play xbox gamepass and veey rarley use it.
Congrats on getting monetized!!🎉 I feel like the only people who buy this are rich, wanted to test it for videos, have an iphone, or hate emulation. Because who in their right mind would buy this when u can buy a retro handheld that streams just as well (without amazing speakers sure) and play ACTUAL GAMES WITHOUT STREAMING, for $50 :)
@poloslim6448 ahh ok I get that. If anything I’m mad we don’t have a standalone portable PlayStation. I’ve always been a huge fan of their portables and don’t understand why they chose to stop making them.
@@TheCollective1 I'd think it was the initial rise of smartphones that killed that market. I like the portal though. It's not bad at all. Yes, games like CoD is a little off to play but it's not horrible one bit...I honestly don't think it's lag with cod either...I think what gets me is the smaller thumbsticks. Let's at least appreciate Sony's attempt at reintroducing the mobile gaming back into their ecosystem. Let's also appreciate the fact they are actively listening to the community that adopted the device too by adding the option to stream from the catalog too. It's a pretty solid start. I agree that at $199 WAS a little steep for it's launch version of capability, but it's a pretty solid price for what it currently offers. JUST FIX THE DAMN HEADSET CAPABILITIES and I'd have zero complaints. Sony is wrong for making their proprietary tech the only wireless headset option
New to your channel, but I appreciate your honest take here. iPhone/iPad + DualSense is the same, if not better, sans the multi-device cumbersome form factor.
I dont like having my ps5 on, but the cloud streaming is nice. I use it in my bed all the time. I also hated it when it was released, but its better than a controller and a tablet :) there are people who really like it, its just not for everyone.
I agree… personally I’m just not a fan because there are better options for gaming in general. I’d rather use my switch or steamdeck than the portal lol.
@@TheCollective1 valid, was thinking steamdeck would be good option and it also has ps cloud, but no haptic feedback and where i live its so expensive. wouldnt buy the 64gb and 256 is 600 where the portal is 200.....
Instead of Sony doing remote play. They knew the games you owned and you could just link remotely to their servers instead of me going through Spectrum where my PS5 is located and then remotely through AT&T in South Lake Tahoe where the uploads just suck! Then I don’t have to play the port games between Spectrum and AT&T I would probably have a much better experience. I can play Apple Games to my iPad up in South Lake Tahoe via a server and it works great. PS5 remote play just doesn’t work out so well. Laggy as hell, freezes up due to lost connection or in some cases refusing to link. I can still watch TH-cam and movies through VUDU but can’t play my PS5 games remotely. 😢
Man that’s a bummer. Honestly that’s why I prefer portable consoles that can actually play games lol. It’s crazy to pay $200 for something that potentially might or might not work. Crazy!
@TheCollective1 even tried lan line and it did help a bit but not enough to justify keeping it. 1000% agree with your rant, thought I was solo on this lol
What does very well mean? Because they mentioned nothing about it having lag at all. When you’re playing games that require precise input, it won’t work at all.
Yes it has some input lag. What do you expect from a $200 streaming device? It works well for its price. It works better than your phone. It has a beautiful screen, decent speakers, a dual sense controller, with the ability to play your PS5 and stream from psn for $200. No device in the world comes close to that. With strong enough WiFi it’s like playing on a 1080p tv in your hands very little lag at all. Still $200
@Pittypatmatt True, except it works exactly as good as my phone. The only thing it has going for it is the controller and for way cheaper you can just get a backbone and do the same thing.
@ your phone has an 8in screen? and even when you add the $100 backbone the input lag is worst because now your going through even more steps(devices). I know your phone or back bone doesn’t have the duelsense functionality or features. We can go back and forth on this all day. The phone backbone combo can’t stream from psn.. @ $200 the Portal is perfect. Compare it to anything in its range including your $500+ smartphone and it kills the competition.
@Pittypatmatt you make some valid points but when it comes down to it, you’re paying $200 for something that’s not really worth it. The phone argument is dumb because people will always have a phone even if it downer pay them as well, is still way cheaper, or free if you just pair your dualsense. If I had $200 to spen on something, I’d try my luck finding a cheap Steamdeck or just save up and get something better that isn’t streaming at all and uses hardware to play the games m. That will always be the best route.
@TheCollective1 harsh? Why do you own an Edge? 😅 I'm just saying, the Portal is just a controller with a screen. A controller can't be used without a source. @@TheCollective1 Clearly it's something on your end, as you see here many of us here in the comments experience no lag (remote or cloud). I've completed the Astro Bot speed runs on it and I kinda suck even without lag, no way I beat those levels with any kind of lag.
Here’s a take, if you achieved monetization with takes like this, you will plateau and never make more than $1 a month. It’s okay to say the Portal sucks to you, but if it still is a great option for many people. I saw you said it is okay for JRPG players and those that don’t mind some lag, but that is a contradiction from your clickbaity title. YTers will YT though.. 😂
Most of my videos aren’t like this lol. I’m just not a fan of it even after heavy use of it. I don’t like the input lag at all and I think alot of people share that sentiment
Its better and it will get better the Portal was made for a certain fan base folks with kids and limited TV or for folks who like sports and want to see the game and play a game think about it Sony was testing the market with the portal it sold well now they took it to the next step and I suspect more is coming which will make pspish/or vitaish Sony will sell more PSN memberships and most folks will upgrade I hope Sony give a better selection of game to choose from I like the portal because Ph are good but PH screen to small. however to each its own. My Portal runs well I have had lag on my console its happens from time to time I play COD but some games I would not play Portal anyway some game must be on the Tv and COD is one but for me turn base stragecy and slower pace game are great on the Portal and I have played Ride 5 AND FASTER PACE game and they were ok. Portal is for a selected groups.
Finally an honest person lol. I still think it’s crazy that doing code to do the portal despite what the market has been screaming. Lola at the success of the switch. It’s spawned a new walks of potable consoles, yet somehow they didn’t see that.

Idk bro. There’s a lot of people that really like it. I am just not a fan of it.
@@TheCollective1 I think they get paid for the good reviews. lol
@Jasmin1990z yeah I’m thinking the same thing. As much as I love technology, I can’t fully support something that I don’t believe in like that. I’m a video game collector at heart.
Your hair is the videos black guy generic haircut
Hey I already made a video addressing how awkward that is lol! 😂
Get better internet. Runs great w/ zero lag for me. Best $200 I spent this year.
My Internet isn’t the issue good sir.
@@TheCollective1 Clearly it's something on your end, as you see here many of us here in the comments experience no lag (remote or cloud). I've completed the Astro Bot speed runs on it and I kinda suck even without lag, no way I beat those levels with any kind of lag.
@greenchile6554 that might be the case, but I don’t think it’s just me.
Are u a sold out
Am I sold out of what?!
*Hot take hate video for monetized views* Why not play the Portal on camera and show the results? It's clearly not for you. Do us all a solid and Please return it so the world can no longer be subjected to more boring endlessly rambling Portal videos.
I didn’t realize the portal had so much love lol
@@TheCollective1 It gets love because its a great device, not for everyone, and since the recent (BETA) update Portal owners are generally hyped for the possiblities. Maybe you hoped to restore balance with a hate filled take because it's popular. Comes across a little forced. Just return it do us all a favor and buy a product you enjoy.
@funkDr1 not forced at all. I just don’t think it’s worth the money, and I’m not the only one that thinks that. We can agree to disagree though.
@@TheCollective1 If you paid for it you already contradict yourself. The Hype you tell people not to beleive got created by genuine positive feedback from owners. You're using basic clickbait without even demoing the issues yourself just talk. I'm actually unconvinced you have issue with the Portal I think you have issue with its popularity. Nothing your weak excuse for a channel will ever do to change.
If my video didn’t convince you that’s ok. The video wasn’t necessary meant to convince anyone. It was just me giving my opinion on something that I didn’t actually enjoy. This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about it thought, early this year I played through all of kingdom hearts 2 on it. You shouldn’t take peoples opinions so seriously though bro, you’re actin like you own stock in Sony lol.
Mines is working perfectly so hood this thumbs down 😂it does exactly what it’s intended to do
The input lag will always kill it for me. Plus the market shows people want portable consoles. The switch is a great example of that!
Click bait
Bro how?!
Pointless video; show us what's wrong. You're giving off Xcension vibes.
Input lag. That’s the problem.
