I think Eric's song was her best song, and she is my absolute favorite singer songwriter.

That's kind of how life is though, isn't it? Kind of a little bit rambling. And words, they don't always capture how we feel, sometimes it takes years of waiting, of waking up to make the coffee, of laundry and folding, of watching and listening and pouring yourself out unconditionally. This song captures a little of that. The idea of two people fitting together, filling one another with a warmth, and a need; it's an idea of infinite facets. For everyone it's different, not just the way we fit together physically, but mentally and emotionally. Fitting one into the other and back again. It's beautiful. And what else could be more sacred or simple than standing at someone's side, always.

I don’t know why I *always* get teary-eyed whenever I see a video of her playing this song.

I think her reasons for writing it is what makes it so powerful. Those three little words are said by rote, and may or may not mean what the is received by the one who hears them. So many times now you hear people say that I love you just isn't enough. We need more poets. Vienna comes from a place of knowing beyond her years, and I'm so glad to have found her.

Having also grown up in a Taiwanese family, I had exactly the same reaction Vienna did when I heard American kids and parents say those 3 words so easily to each other. I felt loved by my parents and I loved them, but it just wasn't something you said out loud. I now have my own family and 3 kids of my own and I consciously decided change that so as a family we do say it to each other often and mean it. I don't know if it is necessarily better, but I like it. I try to sneak it in once in a while when talking to my mom, but it still feels a little awkward. 8-) In any case, Vienna's has so many songs, it is hard to pick just one favorite. That said, her rendition of Green Island Serenade definitely holds a special place for those of us that grew up in Taiwan...

Is it weird I feel like Vienna Teng gives off the warmest mom feeling?
