I don’t think I have ever seen an artist have so much fun. As he said, “have fun”. I think when we become adults we lose the spirit of fun. This video has inspired me to go and have some “fun” when I paint.
Thank you Alvara. So helpful to hear & see an artist who shares what & why he's doing. His "primordial tip - have fun while painting" That way your joy shows in the painting.
Paint for your self indulgence, excellent advice, takes so much pressure off! His Mastership always fires me up, he's an effervescent experience every time. Thank you so much x
ALVARO IS ONE OF MY FAVS! such energy and life and passion he puts into every one of his paintings. im an acrylic painter, and i am starting to get into watercolor, and he is a big inspiration! man i would love to see him do some more pure landscapes, that would be a treat to see what unique perspective he would take when painting away from cityscapes.
thank you for introducing me to a wonderful contemporary artist from my country. never spent much time in Montevideo, Uruguay, but knowing he his popular will just help get the word out about where we are situated on this planet and hopefully who we are as people😄. so thank you for featuring him in CIYL, Graeme Stevenson!!
Thank you to all who put this magical episode together for us to enjoy. Also thank you for sharing this with the world. I love the work that CIYL is doing. This episode was a bright spot in my day.
I have been doing art my entire life, but watercolor was never even a thought…. till I saw this episode. It blew my mind & Alvaro made it look so fun! I had to give it a go. 5 years later Im happy to say that Im still painting & the experience has even improved my graphite drawings (portraits that r not watercolor) as my approach centers 100% on massing now, in place of linear drawing. Since this episode, I have sought out other incredible watercolor artists & of course, enjoyed every Alvaro interview & demo I could find. Learning as much as possible about the man & his philosophy. Out of respect, I do not paint wet streets or city scapes. He is pretty clear about learning: wear ur own clothes while painting a lion in place of the pussy cat. Basically, express ur own ideas & do so with passion, abandoning all fear. So, thats what I carry with me in place of ‘what color’ or ‘what supplies’. Absolutely life changing, simply from the joy of doing, nothing else. No money or fame, no ego…..I just love creating, I love watercolor. There r very few celebrities I wish to meet, but I would shake his hand & simply say, ‘Thank you’ ✌🏻
What a great watercolor artist. Thank you for bringing him to us so that we can see his beautiful artwork. I like the fact that he actually stood there and explain some of his watercolor techniques. I love it and I'm looking forward to seeing more of his artwork so that I may Learn and Grow.
I'll be very glad to share it everywhere! It's really nice and generous all the work you're sharing to the world. Thanks, Graeme for the joy. Best wishes, Enrique
Thank u soo much...guys ....Graeme..ur doing a great service for millions like me who normally don't have a chance to c master's like Alvarao doing live❤
Excellent. Castagnet is not afraid of the dark. The dark reds, the very dark blues, he is bold in his approach. What my watercolors lack... but I'm learning by watching.
Thank you Graeme for bringing up your video's. I found this very inspirational & wonderful to watch Alvaro create and share his tips.....I'll be watching more of your video's.
ginnybelle100 Hi , yes he is amazing. We will have many more great Artists over time, so I hope you enjoy them all, dont forget to tell other folks about us. This only helps us to keep all of this going for everyone out there, hope all is well, Graeme
Alvero comes to Seattle Washington at least once a year, sometimes with his son. He does free demos and several workshops at Daniel Smith‘s art store. I have tried to show up every time he’s here. One of my favorite watercolorist of all time.
isaac ocampo Hi , yes he is amazing. We will have many more great Artists over time, so I hope you enjoy them all, dont forget to tell other folks about us. This only helps us to keep all of this going for everyone out there, hope all is well, Graeme
The interesting part is that they ALWAYS managed to build their own style while painting using the same dam thing... drag bleed sketch, which to me it is just Brilliant
B Gunter Hi , yes he is amazing. We will have many more great Artists over time, so I hope you enjoy them all, dont forget to tell other folks about us. This only helps us to keep all of this going for everyone out there, hope all is well, Graeme
Water colour painting is the most difficult of all the mediums to master, the secret is simplicity. The next, is drawing skills, without a good knowledge of drawing you will never be able to do it....BUT you will enjoy your effort. To be a good watercolour artist will take at least 5 years of constant drawing and painting.....plus a natural talent. (I teach art)
+Little Break And so, you shouldn't listen, or what? What is it with that stupid quote, which takes reason away from people? There have been amazing teachers in all fields that couldn't do it themselves just as well as their students. Good advice is relevant even if it comes from someone who can't apply it. But if you can only throw shit at it, maybe you will splatter some on yourself, too.
Graeme Stevenson (Colour in Your Life) I have learned so much from these videos. Joseph Zbukvic and others. My brother in law paints. He won't look at a computer. Feel sorry for him. Easy to be in rut w/ no way out. Need exposure to new ideas and ways. Thanks for you response.
***** I just saw a guy on TV w/ the same thing. Is there a secret message being sent. Let me guess. "Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine." That's it. I cracked the code.
Interesting style. What kind of tape is he using? Lots of painters complain about the tape tearing the painting but he just rips this tape without any fuss. Thanks
Thank you! I can't get that depth of darkness with my DS paints but will try that combo again, but I think it might really be black! Which is why I ask. I most appreicate your show, and thanks for responding and so quickly!!
Daniel Hornbeck Hi , yes he is amazing. We will have many more great Artists over time, so I hope you enjoy them all, dont forget to tell other folks about us. This only helps us to keep all of this going for everyone out there, hope all is well, Graeme

Thank you Alvara. So helpful to hear & see an artist who shares what & why he's doing. His "primordial tip - have fun while painting" That way your joy shows in the painting.

So fun! And, crazy! And, skilled! Why does he tuck in one side of his shirt? Ha ha
id love him to be my art teacher !!!

Бомбезный мужик!
wonderful masterclass, but the guy is exhausting!!
I love this guy. He's a true master. But why is his beard always off center? It's too far to the right. Mysteries of life i guess.
+Alex Tworkowski Yes its a bit disconcerting Alex, but he paints well, Graeme
Graeme Stevenson (Colour in Your Life) I have learned so much from these videos. Joseph Zbukvic and others. My brother in law paints. He won't look at a computer. Feel sorry for him. Easy to be in rut w/ no way out. Need exposure to new ideas and ways. Thanks for you response.

Interesting style. What kind of tape is he using? Lots of painters complain about the tape tearing the painting but he just rips this tape without any fuss. Thanks
TMC, It's a masking tape meant for masking things on the paper or stretching it. Good quality ones might not damage the paper.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Find the paintings amazing! What color is the black? I don't think he says but maybe I missed it?
Black is a good chance of Ultramarine and Alizarin
Thank you! I can't get that depth of darkness with my DS paints but will try that combo again, but I think it might really be black! Which is why I ask. I most appreicate your show, and thanks for responding and so quickly!!
It's neutral tint from daniel smith
Alvaro suddenly became....like 'if u smell wht d rock is cooking'
ONG...on and on with the commercials. WHEN will the actual demo start????
hepzibahO hehe. 7:00. I fast-forwarded.
Is he using rough or cold press?

Who in the hell would dislike this?
Wow. What just happened.
