      Sure, but if he was working local trains, he'd have no reason to know what station London was. Gordon and Duck worked London, James could have easily spent his whole time on the mainland in Lancashire, Cheshire, or Yorkshire.

    You could never have gotten this kind of story if Awdry had still been working with C. Reginald Dalby; John Kenney's comparatively more open-minded emphasis in drawing from life was a big deal for an author like Awdry, who proved he could write a more complex story here without resorting to using terminology that would fly over the heads of most readers. Regards, Samuel Farris.

    • @TheAutisticCapricorn
      @TheAutisticCapricorn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah. I mean there probably would've been much of a shitstorm if Dalby stuck around even more as the illustrator for Awdry, up to a point where lawsuits might commence leading to an unexpected cancelation of the _Railway Series_ all together. Considering just how anal Awdry was about keeping things consistent as wanted his series of stories, he practically wasn't much a male equivalent of an innocent singing nun neither, at least in a small miniscule of my opinion.

    We know the Big City Engine, the green locomotive with smoke deflectors between Gordon and Duck is based on the LMS Patriot Class. According to the TTTE Wikipedia, they decided to plan this story to film into an episode for the second season Unfortunately that they cancelled Gordon Goes Foreign episode due to budgetary restraints. If Gordon Goes Foreign episode was never cancelled but made, the Big City Engine would be a Black 5 like Henry

    They were going to make a TV adaption but they didn't because the budget was too high, the would've made The Foreign Engine using Henry's model by adding a new face and smoke deflectors and new models for the other foreign engines for background action including the one who turned over when it came out the yard and making a London station set.

    Due to being on the London Midland Region The Derailed Engine would most likely be a type from said region and due to the lack of smoke deflectors it’s likely not something like a Patriot (like the Big City Engine here) Royal Scot or Coronation, so it could be a Princess Royal but I don’t think it could be a Jubilee due to the long distance from Barrow in Furness to St. Pancras plus the firebox doesn’t look like that of one.

      In my eye they look more like LMS period 2 stock than they do Mk1s. I could be wrong, and of course the illustrations could be a little inaccurate.

    I don’t get the stuff about the name of the station in London

    • @NewController01
      @NewController01  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because London has MANY stations, at the time run by different railway companies
      LNER: King's Cross, LMS: Euston & St Pancres, GWR: Paddington, etc

    • @NB-lv8oq
      @NB-lv8oq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gordon worked for the LNER, and their flagship station was King's Cross, the 'big city' engine was obviously LMS and their flagship station was Euston: Duck worked for the GWR and their flagship station was Paddington.

    "Young and green"
    Wow, what a clever pun. Since Gordon was an LNER A3 engine, and they used to be painted green... I think you get it now.
