So much for first impressions that Sir Handel gave the coaches. At least he knows better, just a bit thoe. Even so, that last illustration shows how much he admires Skarloey, knowing that Skarloey was finally about to get himself some much needed repairs.
Driver: We’ll need a bus now for the passengers! Skarloey: No! I’d be ashamed to have a bus take my passengers. I’ll get home or burst! That’s what Skarloey supposed to be, not the engine who’s afraid of the wharf or racing with a certain grey/black engine who claims he’s older on the railway.
4:595:07 When I hear these quotes, I think of this: someone telling me that old-fashioned things from the 80s, 90s, 2000s (maybe even 50s and 60s) like pc laptops, vhs tapes and vcrs, record players, and old merchandises can’t be as useful as nowadays modern things, and I warmheartedly respond that they actually can if they’re preserved and overhauled and taking cared of as they deserve to be
Who used to be excited, bouncy, rebellious, and silly in his youth as a new engine on the line when he came to Sodor on ship back in the mid-19th century. It's just amazing how much growth and development Skarloey phased when times passed and things he's seen changed.
He still does, it's just that he feels too worn out to keep on working the the point where he should just throw in the towel and forget all the work even happened to begin with. That's where his pessimism comes in during Little Old Twins.
5:21 Hey, Awdry. What happened to this, huh? What *HAPPENED* to *THIS?* This character growth was immediately undone the next book. Sir Handel got disrespected hard, man.
yeah literally in the next skr story he fakes sick to get out of work. on the bright side the final skr story by wilbert duke the lost engine didn’t depict him this way.

This was Skarloey at his finest, which begs the question. Why the H in season 7 to 12 did they turn him into a winey, timid, scaredy little child?
Skarloey wasn’t the only engine to be dumb down by HIT look at Henry and Toby

Seasons 7-12 Skarloey reminds of his personality back in the day (1860's).
@@HoundDog also they made Edward a racist ("he doesn't look like a real engine")... Who the hell thought that's a good idea
"He's a small engine, so he should be like a kid!" - Someone at HiT, probably.

Skarloey is a bit like the stern grandfather of the railway to the coaches

"[Sir Handel] thinks that Skarloey is the best engine in the world."
(15 books later...)
Uh oh.
This was before Duke was invented by the author, so you can't blame SH for that.
Sir Handel kind of forgot about Duke, so Peter Sam kept reminding him.

@@karenfan010 He did screw up due to being impatient, and Duke called him an idiot.
That's the only instance the word was ever used in the series.
He probably got over exhausted to the point where he doesn't even want to work anymore at this point
So Skarloey just happened to be in steam - or did they wait 4 hours to get steam up.
Skarloey can steam in 30 minutes with a full boiler, he has a large firebox.
+Joshua Slocombe Correct - We've got Talyllyn in steam in 40 mins on the Talyllyn Railway

I read on the website that I can pay around $1000 to DRIVE one of the engines!
