    Electric only reservoir fishing and competitive bass fishing is becoming a bigger part of my life as my TH-cam channel and content continues to grow. I reside in the Great state of Georgia where we are blessed to have many amazing electric motor only fisheries to take advantage of for pleasure or sport. As I become more involved with this culture I have quickly realized the advantages of utilizing an electric outboard. The ePropulsion Navy 3.0, equivalent to 6 hp, is the unit i have equipped the #topgunjonboat with. Im excited to share this new chapter/ huge upgrade with the world to see. This will be the first video of a Playlist I do on my channel dedicated to the ePropulsion electric outboard. In this video I will cover a variety of topics from unboxing, specs and details, to demonstration of the outboard in action! I will also cover some information that I believe is valuable regarding why I use an electric outboard and what the pros and cons are versus a traditional gas combustion outboard. I hope you enjoy my new upgrade and can take something away from this video! As always, may your tiny boat builds be great!
    ________________________________________
    In this video I will cover a variety of topics in the following order:
    -Introduction to ePropulsion electric outboards
    -unboxing the Navy 3.0 electric outboard, Navy lithium ion battery, ePropulsion battery charger, Navy tiller control handle, accessories
    -product knowledge of the electric outboard system from ePropulsion including the specs, details and features, and what sets ePropolsion's electric outboard apart from competition
    -weigh-in of outboard and battery unit
    -my personal thoughts and opinions of the ePropulsion electric outboard system
    -demonstration of the outboard hooked up and running, in and out of water
    -why I selected an electric outboard and why I selected ePropulsion's outboard in particular
    -pros and cons of an electric outboard versus gas outboard
    -electric only fishing reservoirs and tournaments and how an electric outboard can give you a competitive advantage
    -value proposition of electric boating and electric outboards in general, cost comparison
    -comparison of ePropulsion electric outboard versus other electric outboard manufacturers
    -footage and images of the system installed on my #topgunjonboat in the water and running

    I never knew such a thing existed, that's really sweet. Hello from the Navajo Nation Mr. Jones. I wanted to thank you along with Michael Lopez and FIREANT for all the help and advice you all have given. My 14ft 1956 Starcraft is still under construction and my family is anxiously awaiting to hit the water. I really appreciate all that you have tested and revealed to your audience, it has changed my (and so many others) complete outlook on small boats and has allowed me to eventually give my family that "bass boat" experience on a budget. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much.

    Thank you for the video. They are definitely becoming an interesting proposition. Though the price is going to have to come down. I figured the battery would be pricey, but that motor cost seems a bit outlandish. Granted they do appear priced below Torqeedo, and it's a very low volume market right now versus their expenses to startup I'm sure.
    Another disadvantage of the electric is the batteries' capacities degrade over time, and performance can be much worse in cold weather. So, I feel like you have to price in the cost of a replacement battery. Though by then the technology will probably have changed and you'll need a complete new unit. Obviously gas motors degrade as well, but you can maintain and repair them to stay near their peak operation for longer.

  • @breakerLemur
    @breakerLemur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey Anthony. Thank you for a nice demo-video. Does the the tiller bend/tilt upwards? Or is it locked to a horizontal position. My sailboat transom is quite high, and it would require tiller handle to either tilt upwards or the engine be placed further aft, so the handle can move freely.

    • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats
      @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tiller handle is a separate part and locks into place and is stationary, no ability to manipulate up and down. I do believe this design will be changed down the road eventually. Thanks for watching !

    I bought the Navy 3 outboard a few weeks ago after months of reviewing all the electric outboard options out there. My specific use is for a 20 ft sailboat. I was shocked at the price of the ePropulsion battery - over 3k for less than 65Ah and only rated for 800 cycles. For $1200 I have built my own waterproof, LiFePO4 battery with 85Ah and bluetooth connectivity for monitoring rated at 4000 cycles before 80% DoD. It weighs 68lbs. A 135Ah battery would weigh around 100lbs. Haven't had it out on the water yet as I'm making some repairs to the sailboat - great review to see what's in store!

      Torqeedo nickel&dimes you to death. Their outboards alone aren't much more expensive than the equivalent ePropulsion, but EVERY accessory you need is like twice the price. They also don't have the best reputation for reliability or customer service; ePropulsion's products aren't perfect either, but they are trying very hard to deliver superior customer support through their dealer network.

    Hey buddy... nice vid..... im not sure if you have seen them but check out the karvin electric motors.... this motor can be a 8, 12 or 16hp depending on the voltage.... 24, 36 or 48v..... they also make there own battery packs... but I would go two 24v tesla modules 😆

    • @the_phew3552
      @the_phew3552 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Karvin gets credit for making the most powerful direct-drive (no gearbox or belt) electric outboard, but that's about it. They clearly misunderstand basic concepts like efficiency and propulsive power, since they claim their top-spec 6.8 kW motor is equivalent to a 24 HP outboard (maybe it's equivalent to a 24 HP with only one cylinder firing!). They also don't have a twist throttle on the tiller, it's a panel of 4 pushbuttons (+/-/F/R); that would get old FAST. I surveyed the electric outboard landscape (Torqeedo, Karvin, Stealth, Elco, etc), and ePropulsion stood above the rest when it came to design, power/weight, and price. I own a Vaquita, Spirit 1.0, and Navy 6.0. None of have been perfect, but ePropulsion has worked with my dealer to resolve every issue I've had; they are a good company trying to make their mark on an emerging industry.

    • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

      I'm not 100% sure but I think you can

    • @wesleyclark2032
      @wesleyclark2032 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can, but be aware that it will take a fairly large solar array to charge a 48v, 60+Ah battery in a 'reasonable' amount of time with the appropriate amperage (typically 10% of the rated Ah capacity) Charging a battery I built with a 10 amp inverter charger takes just shy of 10 hours. I would need roughly 500 watts of solar to achieve the same charge time; 1000 watts to cut the charge time in half etc. etc. If you are trying to install enough solar on your boat to achieve a decent charge rate you would run out of space fairly quickly for all the panels needed.

    • @chandlerxu9107

    One downside is the weight of the batteries, a lot of us senior citizens are limited in how much weight we are supposed to lift, these heavy batteries, whether its a big deep cycle or a lithium ion they are both beyond safe limits for many of us to lift. Once an engine is mounted to the boat the only lift required is gas, and if needed you can load up a larger number of small gas cans so you aren't lifting too much weight. Just something to think about.
