Even if you don't believe in ghosts these are kind of sensible or practical things to do.

i was told of a story about a man who one night had to take the last bus home...he entered the bus alone.. a few stops later, a woman got on, she was wearing a old traditional wedding dress with a veil... she handed money to the driver and headed to the back of the bus where the man was seated and sat directly behind him..the man noticed the driver toss the money he recieved from her out the window and continued to drive.. he occassionly glanced behind at the woman, but her veil covered her face... It was finally his stop and he headed to the front. Before the driver opened the doors he whispered to the man "do not walk directly home" with a worried face. the man left the bus confused. he watched as the doors closed and the bus continued on its way. As the bus pulled away, he saw the woman was no longer there in the back. He didnt have to guess what she was. The man walked around and around different streets until he felt it was safe to go home... its been 11 years since my grandpa told about that night...

Actually the festival last the whole month. It’s just that people tend to have the practice of burning the offerings on the 1st, 15 and last day of the month. I never believe in all these superstitious do’s and don’t as these souls are all our deceased ancestors, friends, neighbours etc so why do you need to fear them and why would they do harm to you? Just show respect and treat it as a ritual.

These are the old superstitious beliefs just like Haloween, Jungle Spirits, Talking to the Dead etc. Anyone caught any ghosts or spirits on camera yet? I always thought the 15 day of the Chinese 7th month of the Lunar Calendar was supposed to be the day to feed the hungry wandering ghosts or spirits who died who are believers in Taoism.
