In the latest clip, Chris "Kid" Reid explained how "House Party" came together. He stated that Kid 'n Play were riding a wave of momentum after their album "2 Hype" went Gold. According to Reid, Reginald Hudlin approached him with the script to "House Party" after attempting to direct music videos for the duo. Kid 'n Play felt like they bombed their interview with New Line Cinema until one of the executives witnessed the reaction the duo got from a group of high schoolers.
Reid also addressed the story about DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince being offered the "House Party" roles. He confirmed the story but also added that he and Play received a sitcom offer from NBC before Will Smith did for "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Reid also talked about him and Play becoming the first rappers to have an animated series.

Yeah, will and jeff would have been good but with kid they were able to kind of make the movie relate more to people who aren't black because he was a white looking black guy who was like the square kid but worked his way into the cool crowd. With will and jeff it would have been a good movie but not the same

What’s crazy, is when they actually used that lyricism, they could compete with anyone. They also were one of the few rap groups to actually have their raps sequence with each other.

That cartoon was dope. The Older I grow I think it sucks that Kid N Play and the positive hip-hop seem to get pushed out the mainstream. I mean yeah I was into gangster rap, but it was like they didn't want positive music. Even backpack rap like Souls of Mischief, The Pharcyde, Boogie monsters didn't get enough play.
