    Thank you for the information. I used to think that dysphagia was a psychological problem but now I understand that it can be different. I have stomach problems but I didn't know it could be related to dysphagia. I was pleasantly surprised when the dysphagia stopped bothering me after I started taking vitamin D3.

    In the past Ive had heart palpitations after meals,breathing problems, dizziness ,coughing up clear mucus and lightheaded. Did alot of blood test but doctors didn’t find anything. I started to get really sick in March , symptoms include: gerd, weight loss,feeling full after eating really small amount,indigestion,ear pain,eye pain,regurgitation,always burping etc.
    I was diagnosed with Hiatus Hernia in June. Omeprazole wasn’t helping im now on nexium for 2 months now. Im really depressed reading these comments make me feel good and bad. I hope we get the help and guidance we need. Ohh and im only 23 at 210 pounds atm.

    Your videos are great. Food for thought- ED's such as bulimia play a large role in GERD, which I don't often hear during educational lessons. I developed Barretts from a bulimia (5 years recovered now). But I just thought it was interesting that this was never told to me by my doctors as a risk factor.

    Thanks. From your discussions, I THINK I may have GERD, and Hiatal Hernia. I wish knew how that happen. I almost want to say it's possibly genetic. A relative has the reflux issue and is taken Xanax. The little white 10mg pill. The difficulty swallowing part come in, sometimes just eating some potato chips literally chokes/gag me until I spit all the gag mucus out from my throat. It goes down but too many chips in my mouth 😊 catches up and I start to gag/reflux. It's tough too. Along with a drink of anything is a one two punch. I don't have experience anytype of burning sensation. It doesn't happen with all foods, but i pay attention to what i eat. I know its present. Some drinks but not all. l stay away from citrus drinks, chocolates, spaghetti, and those type of foods. But after eating sometimes i feel fullness toward upper middle of my chest. That's the Hiatal Hernia part. Oh, i don't really consider myself overweight per se'. I don't drink alcohol smoke, exercise regularly.
    I was taking an antacids chewable but I slowed down from that as appear not to work. I listen to the procedure that seem to just clarify the diagnosis, but without surgery, tge meds don't really solve the problem. Most of us don't like meds for a lifetime, and even you mentioned the surgery was a last resort. So what's my plan. Again, video it just confirms what i suspected without the office visit.

    I have all 3, struggling with swallowing (salvia), food is getting stuck at the back of throat, i have to swallow twice. Im due to have a gastric empty study, and a colon transit study..will this show up any throat problems? also struggling with eating, i get bloated after just eating a small amount :( I have elhers danlos syndrome. I'm only 36.

    • @LevelUpRN
      @LevelUpRN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you will be having an upper GI series, which can help identify abnormalities that contribute to swallowing issues. Also elhers danlos syndrome can cause swallowing and other digestive issues… so definitely make sure you provider is fully informed of your condition and eating difficulties. Hope you can get treatment to alleviate or improve your symptoms!!

    Speech Pathologist here. Just some feedback - Not all patients with dysphagia will need to be on thickened fluids, especially when there is the possibility of LPR. Patients should be encouraged to leave the bed (if able) and eat in a chair next to the bed or in a dinning room (ambulation is so important for a patient with dysphagia) at the very least be sitting on the side of the bed to eat. Also, please NEVER recommend a chin tuck as a generic recommendation for someone with dysphagia, there a many contraindicators and can make risks of choking and aspiration worse. Chin tuck should really only be recommended by a speechie with info from a videofluroscopy. I implore you to update this video.

    • @LevelUpRN
      @LevelUpRN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your feedback. We will be amending our flashcards and videos to remind nurses to teach patients with dysphagia to tuck their chin IF recommended by the SLP.
      FYI, nursing students are HEAVILY tested on teaching patients with dysphagia to tuck their chin when swallowing. And as a channel, we want students to be successful in nursing school and on their exams, while also helping them practice safe nursing.
