Savoy G60 Brake Upgrade And Rear Disc Conversion! ( VR5 Swapped Golf 3 )

- Moving right along with our progress on the Savoy. Now we have a nice set of 280mm rotors in the front with girling 54 calipers and 226mm rotors in the rear with girling 38 calipers. Still have to get the tool so I can compress the piston on the rear calipers and then we need to bleed the entire system but we are getting closer and closer!

Can confirm, you can use a 24 socket for the front and a 32 socket for the back.
its actually a 29 socket for the front and a 36 for the back, done this job a week back on my mk2 VR using sockets to seat the races :)

They call it working on cars cuz it's work, you are like the buddy that's always willing to come help fix a problem. Any issue I've had with my mk3, there's a post of you going through the same thing. You always lay out what tools and usually give torque specs. Paint matched calipers look sweet. I've been planning to powder coat calipers for my Sequoia TDI in a nice mint green with some pearl, but I might paint match now lol.

Just rubbing it on the outside doesn’t get it fully in the bearing and can cause premature bearing failure

Looking good mate but you should of done the polo 6N rear stub axle upgrade seeing as you were changing it out. It's a far better bearing set up. I'm running it on my mk2 vr.

You don’t pack the bearing with grease? You should cup your hand and force grease into the bearing. I don’t want your bearing to fail too soon.

ngl, Ive been follow for a bit here and was going to go a rear disc conversion to my mk3 and couldnt for the life of me find a good video. Think its possible to get info on all the hardware that you got for the rear and front? (Calipers and all)
Dude love the calipers they look great but them taper bearings you want to pack them with grease not just apply that little bit they will last way longer there's plenty of vids how to do it keep up the great vids dude

Everything looks pretty sweet. I noticed you didn't install the dust covers behind the disk in the front or back. Any specific reason why?
Honestly forgot all about the dust covers lol I have them for the front I believe but the car I got the rear stub axles off didn’t have the dust shield at all so I’ll have to find one

Did you manage to get high temp paint in your colour or just use normal paint?
Looks awesome and would love to do it on my 32 but I'm concerned about the heat
They were sand blasted and then I used normal spray primer. I’m not sure what the temp rating is and then I just ordered paint matched paint which came with a base and a clear. I’ll have to check the can for what it’s rated to. I know I did the calipers on my Jetta the same way and they’ve held up great at 4 trips to the ring and lots of other driving 👍🏼

This. Look into a bearing packing tool. Lisle makes a great one
Every caliper with a handbrake attached to it needs to be spun back before i had my chinesium tool i just used... I believe literally translated you'd call them water pump pliers you kinda mess the piston up but it works..... Sort of

In VR6/WR5 Golf3/Corrado is it mandatory to use five bolt hubs? Or is it only in Norway?
You can use whichever bolt pattern you’d like. 5 bolt cars have the “plus” front subframe with difference from the 4 bolt subframes and also 5 bolt will have disc in the rear factory

Why not buy brembo when you are buying parts from autodoc? They are not that more expensive but better quality
I have the brembos on my Jetta and I waned to try out a different setup on this car to see which I liked more.
