Angela, your channel is a much-needed resource for practitioners of all types. Thank you. I'm bingeing all of this. This video was excellent personally because through DNA I've discovered my Irish heritage and am discovering many witches in my family line, who practiced Irish forms.

Luce Pagana Have a look at her concise talk on Irish Pagan Culture - it can be found on TH-cam at VYyWwBHzVs. I found this a very useful piece when I was edging my way into this realm of non-Christian spirituality after the death of my wife (I have a few issues with the Christian God after that particular passage in my life and was searching for solace that worked).

I'm originally from round the Hill of Tara so as an Irish guy, thank you. Will check out Jenny's stuff, she seems to be an superb resource for learning. Can also identify with the whole "Pagan" = "Devil Worship" thing, having lived through the Satanic Panic of the 70s. This demonisation was no accident.
    Anyway, massive respect!

Interesting that there’s no word for “Witch” in Irish. In Scots Gaelic, sometimes the word “Cailleach” is used although it more generally means an old woman or sometimes a hag, but more specific, is the term “Bana-Bhuidseach” which is commonly used as the word for a Witch. It’s phonetically pronounced “Banna-Voodshaach” with the “ch” pronounced the same as it is in “Loch”.
Very much enjoyed this interview with Dr Butler... thanks for posting! 🙂

      Angela's Symposium Wow!!... Thanks!
Glad you found it useful.🙂 I only posted because I was struck by the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a specific word for Witch in Irish as there is in Scots Gaelic as the two languages are from the same roots... Sister languages if you like. Funnily enough, I was speaking to a Spanish colleague at work a few weeks ago, and she told me that the Spanish word for Witch is Bruja, which etymologically doesn’t seem to be too far away from Bhuidseach I both the way it looks and sounds phonetically.
It gets interesting because the people who are supposed to have brought the Gaelic language to Ireland according to the Irish mythologies, were The Sons of Mil and apparently they migrated from What is now Spain to Ireland!
I’m probably clutching at straws with this , but it does make you think!🙂
I might have to go and have another wee look at Lebor Gabála Érenn / The Book of Invasions again methinks.😉
Anyways sorry for droning on and thanks again for everything.🙂

I'd like to recommend S. M. Stirling's novel series, Dies The Fire. These books contain an amazingly sympathetic and emotional intense portrayal of a living tradition of multiple spiritual systems in a world in which electricity and high-pressure combustion no longer work. One of the central groups that survive the collapse of society is Celtic Wiccan, and there are also Saxon and Asatru groups. On top of that Buddhism and Christianity are also portrayed in incredibly powerful ways.

  • @aapp953
    @aapp953 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Not to get into stereotypes but it's very ironic how Paganism, Wicca, sorcery, & everything in between things occult is viewed as the bad guy by mainstream Christianity but what's not considered is how all those things especially the practioners throughout the world were killed off along with their written records books libraries etc while Christianity came out on top despite being the ones who claim martyrdom & persecution. I myself was somewhat die hard Christian until reality set in about 2 years ago.☺

Very interesting. Here in the Arab world people also assume that "paganism" or similar beliefs are devil worship. Sometimes they catch kids in a party wearing their makeup a certain way and listening to certain music and headlines on papers the next day would be "The phenomenon of devil worship reemerges. 16 teenagers busted while performing rituals"😹

As a Blasian let me say this.
Im one of the very few Black blokes in Britain who has NOT got a single drop of
    Roman Catholic blood in me.
But many Irish people have told me that the essence of being Irish is to be CATHOLIC.
Many Irish people have told me the following:
There's no such thing as an Irish born-again Christian - because one is the opposite of the other.
Theres no such thing as an Irish Muslim - because one is the opposite of the other. There's no such thing as an Irish Jehovah's Witness - because one is the opposite of the other.
There's no such thing as an Irish Buddhist - because one of the opposite of the other.
So following their own line of logic its therefore obvious that there's no such thing as an Irish pagan - because one is the opposite of the other.
This lady should do a video on what exactly it means to be Irish in terms of ESSENCE.
