      @@spanishafterhours I had a great time doing this video with you but it was even better now, after watching it for the third time:)). Laura, you have a talent, and you show us every time that there is a funnier, easier, more entertaining side to language learning. I hope this video motivates others the way it motivated me.

    Such a nice video! I´m Brazilian, I speak English fluently, I´m now starting to study Spanish and French, trying both at the same time. And part of my family is from Hungary, I don´t speak Hungarian though but I can recognize a few words without looking for its meaning, my grandparents used to speak Hungarian all the time. I love this video!

  • @isabelitacorubi1642
    @isabelitacorubi1642 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very nice. About the portuguese slang displayed here, I would just add that "ficar de cara" is not quite like "get angry" with someone, but more like "get shocked", or "very surprised". Like in: "So you learned chinese just by watching movies? Tô [estou] de cara!"

    • @brunafloriam8906
      @brunafloriam8906 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there!
      I agree with Isabel. When I think that someone "ficou de cara", I would think that this person got shocked about something. Although, if you told me that the person "ficou de cara virada", tem I would imply that the person is angry.
      Great video by the way!! Cheers for Brazil 😉

    I love your channel and I just subscribed. I am learning Spanish and I am in the earliest stages, what I love about your channel is everything is in Spanish but at a reasonable speed so that beginners like me can try to understand, you use gestures and tools which is great and no grammar.
    I saw one of your video where you speak about beginners learning Spanish using the comprehensible input and that you do not teach grammar and this method is how a baby learns and how you learned Korean I think using this method, that was the video that made me subscribe. I really am enjoying this journey.

    I'm also czech and I was thinking that the "kurtos" part is similar to corto in spanish (krátký in czech), so I was thinking Robert meant a "short pie" but then I saw the picture of a half meter long kurtoskalacs and I was like "wait this is not very short" 🤔 and also, I have a friend from Romania and it makes me happy to find similarities in our languages, like citeste = číst (to read) :))

  • @brianofmoore

    Somewhat similar to "raconter des salades" there is the phrase In English known as 'word salad'. However in this case, its typically when someone is trying to misrepresent themselves as smarter than they actually are. They often will try to use a lot of big words, but often misuse them or jumble them up into such a mess of a sentence that it ends up making no sense like a big word salad.
    If you ever read or listened to a speech by Donald Trump, it often ended up sounding like word salad.

    I'm working on German now. It is only similar to English here and there . It is a struggle for me to learn it and I am devising a methodology to assist me. I also want to learn Italian because it is so similar to Spanish and because it has a rich Literary legacy I can read . Lastly (i hope) I want to be able to read chinese characters but not speak or understand spoken chinese because I cannot stand the sound of spoken chinese .I'm pretty good at french and spanish and because nobody is ever really good at English I try my best with it. English is a very strange language even though it is my mother tongue ! If I could I would also learn Navajo - but that's another story !

On compare une salade, soit un assortiment d'ingrédients se mariant bien entre eux, à un ensemble de ragots qui, accompagnés d'un peu d'humour et de fausses excuses, peuvent passer pour vrais. Two people go on a date. A friend shows up and tags along. The friend is a third wheel.

      @@rh1587 Thanks, I guess that's American English. In British English, we use the term "gooseberry", but "third wheel" will probably take over eventually.

    What does this "resulta que... blabla" in your first sentence mean? I hear it all the time, but to me it doesn't seem to mean "It turns out", at least in your sentence it doesn't make a lot of sense and in all the other occassions I hear it, it also means something else. More like "by the way" maybe?

    • @gabosampallosaez5296
      @gabosampallosaez5296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Yeah, in other contexts "resulta que..." may be translated as "it turns out that..." but here she says "Resulta que estaba yo tranquilamente caminando por mi cuarto...", so I would translate it as "I happened to be peacefully walking around my room...", meaning that it was by chance. I hope this helps 😊

    No puedo creer que aprendió rumano, aunque, como vecino, tal vez fue útil. Para los rumanos, todos los idiomas latinos son fáciles, pero el húngaro, al ser de la familia Finno Ugric, tiene reglas totalmente diferentes, sería imposible aprenderlo.

    hungarian has to be the weirdest and one of the hardest to learn languages as it has no origin in any other language whatsoever. It's not romanian, not indo-german, not asian, nothing. So weird.
