    I love this attitude I've seen over the last few years of "who cares if it tastes like the 'real thing,' it tastes great." BTW, Ikea sells vegan caviar.

      ​@@gritmakaveli Mine doesnt depends on the walmart oddly enough if I go to this walmart towards this poorer neighborhood in my area they have the fancier shit like mine doesn't have begin cheese tofu or kimchi but that one does mine also doesn't sell apple oats which are my favorite but the other one does

      same! my little sister is vegetarian and I've come to realise vegetarian/vegan food just has so much more flavourings than the meat version and a lot of vegetarian foods with a unique taste/texture.

    Caviar mostly just tastes like the fish it comes from. The amazing part about it is the texture, the tiny popping pearls. Also super nice in a feta cheese cream

      There are different black ones that definitely pop. I am addicted to caviar. You may have had seaweed pearls. It looks just like caviar but doesn’t pop, isn’t as salty and doesn’t have as strong of a taste. It isn’t nearly as good

      Probably if you use something to make it red, like beetroot powder. I saw a while ago some vegan sriracha caviar made with this method which looked really fun lol

      This looks more like salmon roe than caviar anyway. Caviar is more firm and pops in your mouth. Salmon roe and what she made in this video has a more jelly consistency.

    Caviar has a popping crunch to it. Maybe you can keep it liquid based and encapsulate it sorta like popping boba? Just a thought lol I’m no expert

      No youre right, this method does not create the correct texture for caviar but there is absolutely a way to make a "snappy" outer shell

      If you do the spherification properly they should still be liquid inside.
      This is how popping boba are made lol
      If the pearls soak too long though, the shell will thicken and ruin the texture.
      If you invert which powders go into which component you can get either solid/chewy balls or popping pearls

    Charcoal is given to people when they eat poisonous substances and sometimes when they overdose because it absorbs a wide spectrum of chemicals, and THIS INCLUDES YOUR MEDS! Use other black food colouring if you can.

    Chem lab tech here! Use Calcium lactate instead of calcium chloride. Calcium chloride has kind of a bitter aftertaste.

    I LOVE fish eggs and have since I was like 5. Never tried caviar but I doubt it’s as good as a fresh bunch of ikura (salmon roe, aka the big fish eggs) served over a bit of rice 😋 I wonder if you can somehow create a vegan version of that? They’re similar to popping boba, but the stuff inside is very salty, and they’re smaller.

    i worked at a restauran that made cegan caviar and we just boiled tapioka balls and let them rest overnight in some soya souce and hoysin (i hope thats how u spell it) and it tasted close enough to caviar tbh😌

    Not hating but you can make a more enriched stock using kombu which is sea kelp. Similar but I’ve been told they have differing flavors.

    You aren’t really missing much with regular caviar it’s salty and overpriced and definitely not amazing but it’s good, salmon roe is better

    Upon further reflection, I may not have been clear in my first comment. I understand your desire to make your own seaweed caviar because you’re vegan. I have a similar issue in that I have allergies to many foods, and therefore have to make certain things myself to be able to eat them. I was merely trying to tell you that those are two sources for vegan mock caviar. Some are red and some are orangish. I’m going to try your recipe. Thanks.

    You can buy vegan caviar called cavi"art". It's seaweed pearls. And honestly as someone who is also vegan now and has tried both. The vegan is amazing! But way less salty as the real stuff. And the real stuff can also have a bit of a penny taste. The vegan is 1000% amazing!

    Whaaaaaaat was that gadget? I usually just use agar agar to make vegan caviar and then use a dropper to drop the liquid into a cup of cold oil to get my caviar balls and then rinse them off. Your way looks like it has fewer steps

      you actually don't even need the machine she had, if you just get the sodium alginate and calcium chloride then you can use a dropper. But if you did want the machine it's called the spherificator :))
