Only real way to do it is to cut off the end of the box section with the thread plates on,repair it properly and weld it back on,not just a shock mounting its your top suspension arm too, having seen your welding, turn the amps up and the wire speed down,i admire your enthusiasm, but this is structural
Yep, thankyou. I have cut the top off now (videos uploaded in wrong order). I appreciate that it is structural and that the wheel would literally fall off if things go wrong!! Others have suggested weld nuts on. But I think that the plate will tighten back into the frame and act as a clamp. I will have some more fiddling around tomorrow. Thankyou for your help.
Hey, just to let you know I pushed on a little bit after you amazing offer to weigh up my options and I think my repair will be good. I would be afraid of not setting the replacement box section in the exact same location and causing problems in the arm. Also a lot of un-pickung against the bulkhead. Such a kind offer and please don't think it is unappreciated! (PS your grass track mini is something else!)
@MiniorMinority no problem at all! My dad is a fan of your videos as he is also rebuilding morris minors, he has a traveller and 2 saloon, all rotten but hes made good progress on them all, hopefully have them on the road in the near future
That's Awesome! You are obviously a mini guy (my second favourite car!). It's nice to hear your dad enjoys the vids, makes it all the videoing worthwhile! Thanks.
Ah, I see. The concern is with the hole I drilled first. My concern is that I won't get a good weld on the back of the nut. Could give it a go. I have plenty of nuts kicking about!
good job 🙂👍
Thankyou, really appreciated
tap half a revelation then turn back out to get rid of your chips /swarf
Thankyou!
make sure you use the correct tap for your imperial bolt most tap sets you buy today are metric
Hi there. Definitely an imperial tap set, no metric in that case! Thanks for the advice.

Hi there! We are stripping a morris minor and can post a n/s front shock mount/bulk head if you need it ?
Really? That's amazing! I'm going to work on the car tomorrow, let's see if it's fixable first if that's ok? I really appreciate the help and offer!
@MiniorMinority no problem! Let me know asap as its going to the scrapyard monday, its a rotten bare shell but the strut mounts are good

You really shouldnt be doing this, you need the correct size tapping drill, bolt is probably 3/8 bsf thread, your creating a death trap!
You took the words right out of my mouth
He would have been better welding the right nut to the back of the new plate
