In 1958 my dad rented a Morris Minor in Maastricht. I can still to this day remember the smell of the leather inside that car after it had warmed up in the sun. We went on a trip to Germany. I have a photo of that car from the trip. It's a good memory of a long time ago.

20 Years ago there WAS a plan to resurrect the Morris Minor, at a time when retro models were in vogue (VW Beetle, Fiat 500, et al). MG Rover's collapse in 2005 put paid to that idea. However that time has passed, and there is no way that a retro Minor could be built on today's platforms.

The Morris Minor is a British economy family car that made its debut at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, on 20 September 194812. It was designed by Greek national, Alec Issigonis, who later went on to design the Mini312. The Morris Minor was produced in three series: the MM (1948 to 1953), the Series II (1952 to 1956), and the 1000 series (1956 to 1971)1.

A rear engine is crackers, The minor was probably intended to take a flat four engine, just look at the engine bay set up tons of room so who would transfer bulk into the boot? Removing the boot shelf and transfer the spare to under the bonnet or hood would make sense not a rear engine. I always wanted a red one with black spots for my ladybird.

The car in the video also does not exist, other than on a computer screen. It's a concept, and if comes to fruition will probably be made n China.

Interesting that you refer to "Moggie"; I believe Morgan owners had laid claim to that moniker before the Morris brand existed. Morris owners probably "pulled rank" by pure weight of numbers! In New Zealand and Australia, possibly elsewhere as well, Morris's were more commonly nicknamed "Morrie"
I told my Morgan-driving friend that I thought naming his car after a stray cat was pretty naff!

    Retro is in vogue!
With aesthetic, tech and power train updates, this automobile will have respectable appeal and celebrate British automobile heritage.

Most of the world would NOT allow a new car with bumpers and overiders like those anyway. Regulations have changed.

Hope it's better than the Metro. Having had a trusty Minor 1000 Traveller, I stupidly had a new Metro...which had a cylinder fail after 6months. I do not like the soft top on the new one!

Load of Bollocks Morris disappeared into BMC in the 1960's with the last car to bear the name being the Morris Marina of the 1970's under the Layland brand - Layland became BL and then Rover cars who were sold to the Chinese over twenty years ago.

They will be manufactured in the mothballed treacle mines of the Midlands. Keir Starmer is already in talks with the Dept of Works and Industry to ensure that taxes can be levied on imaginary cars.
