  • The Cartune Company (2003) Ltd in New Zealand does 1uz and 3uz conversions / parts and wiring. We have been working on UZ Toyota V8 engines since 2004 when we did our own Hiace van to transport dirtbikes around NZ. Since then we have swapped to doing mainly just Lexus V8 work from a family owned farm hidden away in our paradise , surrounded by the NZ native bush. We sell parts and simple to follow wiring instructions for the 1uzfe engines. For enquiries email info@thecartunecompany.co.nz Take Care. Kelvin

Great video mate - I'm looking at doing a 1UZ conversion starting with minimal knowledge so this was very educational 👍👍

Been looking through your videos for the correct part number of the 1UZ vvti coil plugs, (large coil), is 90980-11885 the correct PN? If this is already answered, a link would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Dear Kelvin,
can a timing belt get shorter when it was soaked in water? My boat's 1UZ got a bit flooded in salt water. Starter and alternator had been refurbished already. I also took off the timing belt and cleaned the mess. The tensioner lost its tension so I replaced it with an old one but still good one. It has a lot of force when puttin it in the vise. There is that little slack in the belt that I can pull out the pin of the tensioner and put it back inside. The timing belt was quite new and the marks still visible. After 2 turns the timing marks are in correct position. But while turning I see that it is difficult for the belt to enter the grooves in the cam wheels. Like if the spacing of the belt is more narrow than the wheel.

I have seen belts swell when they are contaminated but Ive never seen it with salt water.

@@CartuneNZ I have found some articles in the net that people use hot water to shrink rubber belts.
I hope you didn't buy Toyotas whole stock :-)

@@CartuneNZ I had good luck and got a belt and new rollers. Today I'll do an authopsy with the failed tensioner. My plan is to machine one that is mechanical adjustable. I run coil on plug and will not put the plastic covers back. I prefer to keep an eye on it because it is the interference engine.

@@johannriedlberger4390 a better idea is to machine a longer insert into the lower tensioner bearing bracket so the hydraulic tensioner is still present however now moving the bracket as much.

”igniter built into the coil?” Eeeer correct me if I’m wrong but coil in plugs don’t have/need but distributer does?

Things like some fords and jaguar have coil on plug which dont have an ignitor within the coil however toyota coil on plug integrate the ignitor as part of the coil
